  • This paper aims to design a variable-stiffness type economical safety joint for service robots. The safety joint was designed to have a passive shock absorbing mechanism for protecting human from a catastrophic collision under service condition of robots. A simple mechanism composed of two action disks for switching the load transfer, a spring and a screw for pre-load was proposed. In order to evaluate the performance of the safety joint a testing platform which can carry out the static and impact tests was also designed and fabricated. From the test results, the designed safety joint was proved to have a variable load-carrying capacity and about 42% impact absorption capacity with simple manipulation of the control screw.

  • In this paper, mechanical properties of the high strength lightweight self-compacting concrete with simple mixed design method was investigated. Experimental tests were performed as such compressive strength, splitting tensile strength, modulus of elasticity and density of high strength lightweight self-compacting concrete. The 28 days compressive strength of high strength lightweight self-compacting concrete with the LC replacement ratio of $100\%$ reduces about $31\%$ but LF replacement ratio of $100\%$ increase about $20\%$ compared that of the control concrete. The structural efficiency of high strength lightweight self-compacting concrete increase with proportional to the replacement into of LF. The relationship between the splitting tensile strength and 28 days compressive strength can be represented by the equation $f_s=0.076f_{ck}+0.5582$. The modulus of elasticity was found to be lower than that of normal weight concrete, ranging form 24 to 33 GPa.

  • The main goal of this study was to develop a convenient strengthening technique for retrofitting of reinforced concrete members. For this purpose a new retrofitting material so-called prefabricated-HSPRCC (high performance steel plate reinforced cementitious composite) panel was developed by using high performance concrete and perforated steel plate. Prefabricated-HSPRCC composes advantages of steel and high performance concrete. The prefabricated-HSPRCC panels were either only bonded on the specimens using epoxy mortar or anchored to the specimen by steel bolts as well as bonding. Effect of different variations such as prefabricated-HSPRCC panel thicknesses, steel plate thicknesses, puncture orientation of perforated steel plate, existence of anchorage etc. were studied through a simple experimental work. The behaviour of the specimens under vertical point load was also studied by using simple mechanics. The retrofitted specimens were found to exhibit much better performance both in terms of strength and deformation capability. The anchorage application was found to positively affect this improved performance. Furthermore, as a result of the tests the best parameters of prefabricated-HSPRCC plate for improving strength and deformation capacities were determined.

  • This paper presents optimum simple step-stress accelerated life test plans for the case where the test process is observed periodically at intervals of the same length. Two types of failure data, periodically observed complete data and periodically observed censored data, are considered. An exponential life distribution with a mean that is a log-linear function of stress, and a cumulative exposure model for the effect of changing stress are assumed. For each type of data, the optimum test plan which minimizes the asymptotic variance of the maximum likelihood estimator of the mean life at a design stress is obtained and its behaviors are studied.

  • This paper presents a technique to evaluate torque and speed characteristics of induction motor with the Dynamometer. The simple Dynamometer controlled via microcontroller and displayed by computer. The Microcontroller generates the PWM (Pulse Width Modulation) signal and control the duty cycle of signal for control braking level. The Buck converter is a braking unit which uses IGBT as switch in circuit. The output current of the Buck converter and output voltage of tacho generator are converted to digital signals and analyzed by microcontroller. The signals are then sent to computer for displaying torque and speed responds independent on the braking time. The test results of the Dynamometer in this research can coreectly predict the torque and speed response under reasonable tests. Moreover, this Dynamometer is easy and inexpensive to make.

  • In this paper, the medium strength self-compacting concrete with simple mix design method was manufactured and investigated about the properties of flowability and strength. Two types of binders like as fly-ash and RP(rock powder) were contained to the SCC in order to obtain the target medium strength of 270-350kgf/$cm^2$. The experimental tests about slump-flow, reaching time to the slump-flow of 50cm, V-funnel and U-box were carried out in accordance with the specified by the Japanese Society of Civil Engineering(JSCE). The mechanical properties such as compressive strength, splitting tensile strength and static modulus of elasticity were checked with the requirements specified by KS.

  • Parallelism tests are proposed for slope in the simple linear regression models. In this paper, we suggest the parametric test using HSD testing method (Tukey,1953) and distribution-free test using Kruskal-wallis (1952) for more than three slopes. Monte Carlo simulation study is adapted to compare the power of the proposed methods with Wilks' Lambda multivariate procedure.

  • In recent the XLPE cable has been applied more widely because of its advantages, such as the low-cost and simple installation. For a prefabricated joint, its working time is short, its jointing procedures aγe simple, and its quality control is easy. Electrical performance targets of our developed 66kV cable accessories has been approved through the type test in accordance with IEC publication 840. This paper describes the developmental effort in terms of the design, structure and results of performance verification tests for 66kV XLPE cable system.

  • For external noise prediction of railway vehicles, sophisticated individual source modelling as well as appropriate noise propagation model from the sources is necessary to ensure the accuracy of the predicted results and contributions of each equipment to the overall noise levels. Accurate and reasonable identification procedures of sound sources of equipment including source strength, directivity and positions installed in the train play an important role in a prediction model, since it is not easy to establish a simple model for the sources with a single rule due to the complexity of source characteristics of equipment in size and directivity pattern. This paper guidelines practical considerations for identification of noise sources in railway vehicles including typical source characteristics of several sub-systems that emits noise to the environment, particularly for electric multiple unit(EMU), and verify effectiveness of assumptions used in the modelling of equipment by measurement with a simple part. The predicted external noise level of a complete train using Exnoise, which was developed by Hyundai-Rotem and has been verified in the a lot of field-tests, incorporating source modelling considered in this paper shows close correlation with the measured ones.

  • Salt attack and freezing & thawing test, one of the combined deterioration tests was performed to explore the mechanism of concrete structure deterioration under marine environment. Simple submerging test was proceeded to draw out its diffusion factor with salt water at the same time. Some of the mechanisms were driven with using three types of cements and four kinds of salt water concentrations. $\circ$ TBC was more durable than OPC or SRC for freezing and thawing action $\circ$ The higher chloride concentration of salt water was, the faster relative dynamic elastic modulus decreased and the higher the loss of weight was. $\circ$ The diffusion factor of TBC was smaller than those of TBC or SRC at simple submergence of concrete specimens into salt water.
