Objective: The purpose of this study was to analyze 'response time', 'peak response time' and 'overshoot value' for each muscle by applying the EMG signal to the vehicle response in ISO 7401 and to quantify the response of the driver according to vehicle characteristics by comparing vehicle characteristics and muscle responses of the driver. Background: The Open-loop test defined in international standards ISO 7401 is the only method for evaluating the performance of the vehicle. However, this test was focused only on mechanical responses, not driver's ones. Method: One skilled male driver(22 yrs. experience) was participated in this experiment to measure muscle activities of the driver in transient state. Then the seven muscle signals were applied to calculate 'response time', 'peak response time', and 'overshoot value'. Results: In the analyses of the EMG data, the effects of vehicle type and muscle were statistically significant on the 'response time' and 'peak response time'. Also, the effects of vehicle type, muscle, and lateral acceleration level were statistically significant on the 'overshoot value' in this study. According to the analyses of the vehicle motion data, vehicle motion variable(LatAcc, Roll, YawVel) was statistically significant on the 'response time' and vehicle type, vehicle motion variable, and lateral acceleration level were statistically significant on the 'peak response time', respectively. Conclusion: In the analyses of the 'response time' and 'overshoot value', the data of muscle activities(EMGs) was better index that could evaluate the vehicle characteristic and performance than the data of vehicle motion. In case of peak response time, both EMG and vehicle motion data were good index. Application: The EMGs data from a driver might be applicable as index for evaluation of various vehicle performances based on this study.
This Experimental study was done to investigate the effect of the Taklisodok-um on the Anti-allergic response. The results were obtained as follows: 1. On vascular permeability response to the intradermal injected Histamine, the Taklisodok-um treated group revealed more significant decrease than control group. 2. On vascular permeability response to the intradermal injected Serotonin, the Taklisodok-um treated group revealed more significant decrease than control group. 3. In the 48hrs homologous passive cutaneous anaphylaxis provoked by the IgE-like antibody against white egg albumin, there was no significant difference between the Taklisodok-um treated group and control group. 4. The Taklisodok-um treated group revealed more significant inhibitory effect than control group in the delayed type hypersensitivity response to Picryl chloride. 5. The Taklisodok-um treated group revealed more significant inhibitory effect than control group in the delayed type hypersensitivity response to SRBC. According to the above-stated results, it is considered that the Taklisodok-um could be applied widely to the type I and IV allergic diseases.
Purpose: This study was conducted to examine the effects of solution-focused group counseling on the general stress, stress response and coping in the delinquent juveniles. Method: The subjects consisted of a convenience samlple of 60 delinquent juveniles who had been placed under probation in Kwang-ju, and recruited from Oct., 2000 to Dec., 2000. Solution-focused group counseling was conducted for the experimental group once a week for 120 to 180 minutes for 6 week. The control group received no group session. For both groups the level of general stress, stress response and coping were measured before and after the experiment. Result: General stress significantly decreased in the experimental group and increased in the control group, but showed no significant difference between the two groups. Stress response decreased significantly in the experimental group and increased in the control group, but showed no significant difference between the two groups. The problem-focused coping significantly increased in the experimental group and decreased in the control group, and showed a significant difference between the two groups. The emotion-focused coping significantly decreased in the experimental group and increased in the control group, and showed no significant difference between the two groups. Conclusion: This study showed that solution-focused group-counselling has a positive effect on variables like the general stress, stress response, emotion-focused coping and problem-focused coping. Further study needs to be conducted to verify results.
Objective : This study was to examine a relationship among subjective psychological stress, physical stress response and oxidative stress. Methods : The subjects were consisted of 87 healthy volunteers. To assess subjective psychological stress, SRI(stress response inventory) was completed. To assess psychological and physical stress response, HRV(Heart Rate Variability) were tested. To assess oxidative stress, d-roms(Derivatives of reactive oxygen metabolites test) test was conducted. Subjects were divided into 3 groups depending on SRI(Stress Response Inventory) score, low stress response(LSR: lower than 30 percentile), Medium(MSR: 30-70 percentile) and high stress response(HSR: higher than 70 percentile). The Relationship between Stress Response and Oxidative Stress was estimated by correlation and One-way ANOVA analysis. Results : There were no significant differences of demographic data among 3 groups. There was a significant difference of oxidative stress among 3 groups. Conclusion : Our results suggest that there is a weak positive correlation between subjective psychological stress and oxidative stress. There is a significant difference of oxidative stress between HSR group and LSR group.
Major symptoms of al1ergic rhinitis are nasal obstruction, sneezing and watery rhinorrhea. Onpyetang has been used to treat for nasal obstruction, which is one of the symptoms of allergic rhinitis. This Experimental study was done to research effects of Onpyetang and transformed Onpyetang(Allii Radix is deducted from Onpyetang) on the anti-allergic effects. We have studied the vascular permeability response induced by serotonin and histamine, the contact dermatitis response induced by picryl chloride, the delayed type hypersensitivity response to SRC, the mice paw edema induced by carrageenin, the writhing syndrome induced by $0.7\%$ acetic acid, and the rectal temperature in febrile rats induced by yeast. The results were as follows : 1. In the vascular permeability response to intradermal serotonin and histamine. Onpyetang proved significant inhibitory effect(P<0.05, p<0.001) But transformed Onpyetang proved significant inhibitory effect only to histamine(P<0.05) 2. In the contact dermatitis response induced by picryl chloride, Onpyetang and transformed Onpyetang proved significant inhibitory effect.(P<0.05, P<0.05) 3. In the delayed type hypersensitivity response induced by SRC, Onpyetang and transformed Onpyetang proved significant inhibitory effect on mice paw edema.. (P<0.05, P<0.05) 4. In the delayed type hypersensitivity response induced by SRC, Onpyetang proved significant inhibitory effect to serum IgE.(P<0.01) But transformed Onpyetang proved insignificant inhibitory effect on serum Ig E. 5. In the mice paw edema induced by carrageenin, Onpyetang and transformed Onpyetang proved significant anti-inflammatory effect. (P<0.01, P<0.01) 6. In the writhing syndrome induced $0.7\%$ acetic acid, Onpyetang and transformed Onpyetang proved significant analgestic effect. (P<0.01, P<0.01) 7. In the rectal temperature in febrile rats induced by yeast, Onpyetang and transformed Onpyetang proved significant anti-pyretic effect.(P<0.001, P<0.01) according to this result Onpyetang was conclude to be effective on anti-allergic, anti-pyretic, anti-inflammatory and analgestic action. but transformed Onpyetang(Allii Radix is deducted from Onpyetang) was not effective on the vascular permeability response to intradermal serotonin and increasing Ig E of delayed type hypersensitivity response induced by SRC. In addition, transformed Onpyetang is not effective as Onpyetang. More study should be done about the role of Allii Radix.
Experiments were carried out in humans to assess the relationship between viscosity and post-prandial glucose response of soluble fibers. Eight(3 male and 5 female) healthy individuals were tested for their glucose response after taking control meals or 3 test fiber meals of different viscosities. Meal viscosity of the test food was adjusted to be between 200 and 70, 000 cps. There was a significant increase in post-prandial glucose response(p=0.01) in control meals by solely increasing the volume of water. Fiber with the highest viscosity konjac mannan demonstrated the lowest relative glucose response(70.1$\pm$6.6), followed by medium viscosity xanthan (79.3$\pm$8.7)and low viscosity psyllium (86.3$\pm$10.5). The difference is significant at the level of p<0.05. However, no significant difference in relative glucose response of the same fiber was found when the 4 levels of water were added to make different meal viscosity of each fiber (p=0.476). This result suggested that hypoglycemic action of soluble dietary fibers is related to fiber viscosity rather than meal viscosity.
This study attempted to increase quality of nursing care by assessing the nurses' attitudes for computerization in nursing practice and ensuring right recognition and attitude for computerized system. Study subjects are 311 nurses who are working at 4 general hospitals. Those hospitals are selected according to the degree of computerized in Kyoung In Province. Study instrument consists of 20 items and 12 general questionnaire which was developed by Brodt and Stronge(1985) and modified by Lee(1991). The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between perceived stress. self respect & stress response of high school students to provide the basic data for nursing intervention programs in order to manage stress in students. The subject of this study was 279 students (male; 179. female; 100) in high school. Seoul. Korea. during the period from July. 2000. The instruments for this study was a stress management scale developed by Park Young Ae(l996), a self respect scale by Coopersmith (1967) and a physical. emotional response scale to stress by Ro, Jae Hak(1991). The data was analyzed by descriptive statistics, t-test. Pearson correlation coefficient. The results of analysis were as follows: 1) Total perceived stress between males & females didn't show a significant difference but subgroups of stress, 'parent' & 'friend' showed significant differences. Male students were experienced in 'parent' stress than females and female students were more experienced in 'friend' stress than males. 2) A significant negative correlation was revealed between perceived stress & self respect. 3) A significant positive correlation was revealed between self respect & stress response. The result of this study lead us to the suggestion that for high school students. the development of stress management methods for improving self respect should be expanded.
The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of stress response on safety behavior and to explore moderating effect of safety climate between stress response and safety behavior. 224 workers were asked to respond to the questionnaires that measured various demographic variables, stress response, safety climates and safety behaviors. A hierarchical regression was conducted to identify variables that had significant relationships with safety behavior and to examine moderating effect of safety climate between stress response and safety behavior. Results indicated that the depression response significantly predicted safety behavior. It was found that the safety climate was also a significant predictor for safety behavior. In addition, safety climate had a moderating effect on the relation between depression and anger responses and safety behavior.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to present evidence for quality management based on analysis of patient transportation and response intervals among emergency medical squads. Methods: The chi-square test was used to determine whether mental status and patient assessment affected direct medical control and hospital destination. One way analysis of variance was used to compare response intervals depending on mental status and patient assessment using data drawn from 1172 prehospital care reports. Results: There was a statistically significant relationship between mental status and direct medical control (p<.001); there was a statistically significant relationship between patient assessment and hospital destination (p=.011). However, there was no statistically significant relationship between mental status and hospital destination. The interval from arrival at the patient's side to departure from the scene showed a statistically significant difference (p<.001, p<.001), however, it took the longest time (16.8 minutes) in unresponsive patients. It showed a statistically significant difference (p<.001) in the interval from arrival at patient's side to departure from the scene depending on patient assessment; however, it took the longest time (9.6 minutes) in emergency patients. Conclusion: There was call for direct medical control based on patient assessment; however, patient transportation and response intervals were not appropriate.
