  • The initial light emitting diode (LED) has been used as a display device for various mechanical devices due to its low power. The development of LED technology has made it possible to express color with high power and high brightness. Therefore, it is used as a display such as a traffic signal, a large electric signboard, and an automobile display, and is also adapted as an indoor or outdoor light source such as an incandescent or a fluorescent lamp which requires the high luminance. The bulb of marine lantern, which is used for the aids to navigation, was replaced to LED. The first marine LED lantern was manufactured using multiple LEDs. However, if the optical design is renewed by the development of LED or even if a few LEDs are used, it is possible to satisfy the brightness and the light distribution required by the marine LED lantern.

A Study on an Impedance Matching Technique for Rail Power Line Communication (레일 전력선통신을 위한 임피던스 정합방안 연구)

  • An auxiliary real-time train communications system among drivers, train-traffic controllers and field workers is necessary to share hazard information (i.e. rockfall detection, track maintenance) in low visibility zones (long tunnels and steep curved track). To develop the appropriate communication system, this paper proposes a new way of power line communication using the rail track (Rail - PLC), which has little noise and distortion of attenuation. Therefore, it is important to measure the impedance of the rail and to apply an impedance matching technique to increase the transmission characteristic of the Rail - PLC. This study would evaluate the reflection and the transmission characteristics of the rail using a network analyzer and an impedance matching transformer. The suitable impedance matching ratio was 1:3.28 from the result of back-to-back testing. The results confirmed that the transformer can improve the performance of the transmission signal in Rail - PLC using an impedance matching technique.

  • Modal identification based on ambient vibration data has attracted extensive attention in the past few decades. Since the excitation for ambient vibration tests is mainly from the environmental effects such as wind and traffic loading and no artificial excitation is applied, the signal to noise (s/n) ratio of the data acquired plays an important role in mode identifiability. Under ambient vibration conditions, certain modes may not be identifiable due to a low s/n ratio. This paper presents a study on the mode identifiability of an instrumented cable-stayed bridge with the use of acceleration response data measured by a long-term structural health monitoring system. A recently developed fast Bayesian FFT method is utilized to perform output-only modal identification. In addition to identifying the most probable values (MPVs) of modal parameters, the associated posterior uncertainties can be obtained by this method. Likewise, the power spectral density of modal force can be identified, and thus it is possible to obtain the modal s/n ratio. This provides an efficient way to investigate the mode identifiability. Three groups of data are utilized in this study: the first one is 10 data sets including six collected under normal wind conditions and four collected during typhoons; the second one is three data sets with wind speeds of about 7.5 m/s; and the third one is some blind data. The first two groups of data are used to perform ambient modal identification and help to estimate a critical value of the s/n ratio above which the deficient mode is identifiable, while the third group of data is used to perform verification. A couple of fundamental modes are identified, including the ones in the vertical and transverse directions respectively and coupled in both directions. The uncertainty and s/n ratio of the deficient mode are investigated and discussed. A critical value of the modal s/n ratio is suggested to evaluate the mode identifiability of the deficient mode. The work presented in this paper could provide a base for the vibration-based condition assessment in future.

  • LED(Light Emitting Diode) is an emitting device which energy is same to the bandgap energy of p-type and n-type semiconductor junction. Recently high brightness LED is used in fish-luring light and traffic signal light alternative of normal light bulb, and widely used in the area of display pannel. Moreover nowadays LED has been used as a back light of LCD display. Recently, visible light communication(VLC) using LED, that allow two-way serial data communication between LEDs over a distance of sveral centimeters or meters, has been widely studied in the area of digital information transmission along with illumination and display. In this paper, we present LED communication system and their applications.

Duplicate Video Packet Transmission for Packet Loss-resilience (패킷 손실에 강인한 중복 비디오 패킷 전송 기법)

  • The transmission of duplicate packets provides a great loss-resilience without undue time-delay in the video transmission over packet loss networks. But this method generally deteriorates the problem of traffic congestion because of the increased bit-rate required for duplicate transmission. In this paper, we propose an efficient packetization and duplicate transmission of video packets. The proposed method transmits only the video signal with high priority for each video macroblock that is quite small in volume but very important for the reconstruction of the video. The proposed method significantly reduces the required bit-rate for duplicate transmission. An efficient packetization method is also proposed to reduce additional packet overhead which is required for transmitting the duplicate data. The duplicated high priority data of the Previous video slice is transmitted as a Piggyback to the data Packet of the current video slice. It is shown by simulations that the proposed method remarkably improves the packet loss-resilience for video transmission only with small increase of redundant duplicated data for each slice.

Development of Speed Measurement Accuracy Using Double Loop Detectors (2중 루프검지기 속도측정 정확도 개선 알고리즘 개발)

  • Speeding has been reported as one of the major causes for fatal traffic accidents in Korea. The resolution against this dangerous speeding comes to make the automated speed enforcement system an enforcement tool. The speed detection device, which measures speeds of each incoming vehicles using double loop sensors, requires high accuracy. The object of this study is to develop an accurate speed measurement algorithm using double loop detectors. Some important findings are summarized as follows: 1) It was found that speed measurement errors are caused by scanning rate, distance of two loops, irregular vehicle trajectories, multiple vehicles in detection zone. 2) A proposed algorithm using two signal set proved to reduce variance as well as mean of speed measurement. 3) A proposed filtering algorithm was effective to filter irregular driving vehicles and multiple vehicles in detection zone. A comprehensive field test of developed algorithm resulted in significant improvement of speed measurement accuracy.

  • This paper propose a contention resolution policy featuring dynamic change of the threshold for the occupancy of the input buffer for an input buffering ATM switching architecture and its hardware implementation strategy. The strategy is provided with the aim of the simple structure that achieves the reduction of the signal path and the power consumption. The threshold is changed dynamically every time slot based both the arrived of cells and the cell service resulting from the contention resolution. The performance on the cell loss of the proposed policy is performed and compared with the conventional policy under the diverse traffic conditions through both the analysis based ont the Markov chain and the simulation.

Mutual Authentication Protocol based on the Effective Divided Session for the Secure Transmission of Medical Information in u-Health (유헬스에서 안전한 생체정보전송을 위한 동적인 유효세션기반의 상호인증 프로토콜)

  • All medical information over sensor networks need to transmit and process securely in the u-Health services. The reliability of transmission between u-Health medical sensor devices and gateway is very important issue. When the user moves to other place with u-Health devices, its signal strength is going down and is far from the coverage of gateway. In this case, Malicious user can be carried out an intrusion under the situation. And also rogue gateway can be tried to steal medical information. Therefore, it needs mutual authentication between sensor devices and gateway. In this paper, we design a mutual authentication protocol which divided sessions from an authenticated session are updated periodically. And in order to reduce the traffic overhead for session authentication, we also introduce dynamic session management according to sampling rate of medical sensor type. In order to verify this, we implemented the programs for the test-bed, and got an overall success from three types of experiment.

An Implementation of $A^*$ Algorithm with Turn Heuristic for Enhancing the Straightness of a Path (경로의 직진성을 고려한 턴 휴리스틱 $A^*$ 알고리즘의 구현)

  • In driving a car, u-turn or left turn makes the speed of car decrease considerably or require more waiting time at the cross for the traffic signal to turn green. A more straight path, therefore, is probably faster to arrive at the destination than zig-zaged path with same distance. Previous works related to the path navigation do not consider the straightness of the path. In this paper, we have proposed the path navigation algorithm with turn heuristic for enhancing the straightness of a path. We have implement the proposed algorithm and compared it with a traditional $A^*$ algorithm. The experimental result shows that the degree of the straightness of a path is enhanced by 30% and the navigation distance of a path is deceased by 3.3%.

Efficient Usage of Secondary Scramble Code via Optical Repeater in W-CDMA System (W-CDMA 시스템에서 광중계기를 이용한 secondary-스크램블 코드의 효율적 활용방안에 대한 연구)

  • Optical repeater is often installed at the isolated area. Spatial separation makes it possible to reduce the inter-code interference when secondary scrambling codes are used for traffic connected through repeater. In this paper, we propose five secondary scrambling code usage scenarios with the aids of optical repeater to maximize the user capacity. In order to evaluate the performance, dynamic system level simulation is performed. We also propose a base station-repeater switching where each active users can change access points by comparing the channel condition from base station and repeater thorough secondary common pilot channel (S-CPICH) signal to noise-interference ratio (SINR). Moreover, primary-secondary scramble code replacing scheme is proposed which replaces secondary scramble code with primary scramble code when a call using primary scramble code is ended and its corresponding OVSF code is available to users using the secondary scramble code
