Differential unitary space-time modulation (DUSTM) has emerged as a promising technique to obtain spatial diversity without intractable channel estimation. This paper presents a study of the application of DUSTM on multiple-input multiple-output orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (MIMO-OFDM) systems with frequency-selective fading channels. From the view of a correlation analysis between subcarriers of OFDM, we obtain the maximum achievable diversity of DUSTM on MIMO-OFDM systems. Moreover, an efficient implementation strategy based on subcarrier reconstruction is proposed, which transmits all the signals of one signal matrix in one OFDM transmission and performs differential processing between two adjacent OFDM blocks. The proposed method is capable of obtaining both spatial and multipath diversity while reducing the effect of time variation of channels to a minimum. The performance improvement is confirmed by simulation results.

In space diversity combining, conventional methods such as maximal ratio combining (MRC), equal gain combining (EGC) and selection combining (SC) are commonly used to improve the output signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) provided that the channel is perfectly estimated at the receiver. However, in practice, channel estimation is often imperfect and this indeed deteriorates the system performance. In this paper, diversity combining techniques based on two evolutionary algorithms, namely genetic algorithm (GA) and particle swarm optimization (PSO) are proposed and compared. Numerical results indicate that the proposed methods outperform the conventional MRC, EGC and SC methods when the channel estimation is imperfect while it shows similar performance as that of MRC when the channel is perfectly estimated.

In this paper, we derive the outage probability of cellular mobile system with STTB(Space Time Transmitter Diversity) scheme where the received radio signals and interferers experience Rayleigh fading and AWGN. The new probability density function of L independent identically distributed interferers is derived using Laplace transforms. We express the probability of outage as a function of the average-signal to average-interference power ratio and the signal to noise ratio. In addition, the frequency reuse distance which is one of the key parameters in the design of cellular systems is analyzed.

In the environments with interference and Rayleigh fading the bit error probability equation of FH / MFSK signal has been derived and the error rate has been evaluated. And the results are shown in graphs and discussed. The degree of improvement of error rate performance has been found out in space diversity technique. From the results, we know that maximal ratio combining is very effective for Rayleigh fading and interference.

A new space-time cooperative communication relaying strategy with assistant or management terminals is proposed in multi-hop wireless communication systems. More than one relaying terminals are included in one cooperative group to share the state information such as frame error rate and channel information. Among the cooperative group, the best ones are selected to send bit information using space-time codes. An implementation for the proposed scheme is also presented using a TDMA cooperative protocol. Receive signal to transmit signal ratio($E_r/E_s$) and computer simulation show the strategy outperform the conventional cooperative system.

In Japan, the specification for digital terrestrial television broadcasting systems has been approved for employing a transmission scheme for ISDB-T, which can accommodate HDTV service and portable mobile reception by adapting segmentation of frequency. In this paper, we have developed 3.5 inch mobile TV according to One-Seg system and presented the results of our development. In addition, we introduce two diversity schemes to compensate the defect that signal is interrupted when the portable TV is moving fast. In order to achieve a reliable communication in One-Seg system, we introduce STD(space time diversity) which uses more than 2 antennas at TX and cooperative reception diversity which utilizes signal-exchanging between different mobile terminals. And, its performance enhancements to reception reliability of previous system are evaluated by computer simulations.

Since the invention of a novel diversity technique, namely a space-time line code (STLC), though the previous studies have theoretically analyzed the error rate and ergodic capacity, the outage probability has not been revealed yet. In this paper, we characterize the probability density function of the instantaneous signal-to-noise ratio, and mathematically derive the closed-form expression of the outage probability. Based on numerical simulations, furthermore, we validate the accuracy of the mathematical analysis, and present the insight into the system design and implementation.

We introduce a new space-time signal processing scheme that uses both transmitter diversity technique and transmitter beamforming technique for code-division multiple access (CDMA) systems. Over complex Gaussian Rayleigh channel, the introduced scheme achieves the diveristy gain through the transmitter diversity technique. and the SNR gain by th transmitter beamforming technique. Bit error rate (BER) analyses are given to each of the three cases in which the transmitter diversity scheme, the transmitter beamforming scheme and the introduced scheme are used, in the slowly varying Rayleigh frequency nonselective fading channel. The Monte-Carlo simulation results are shown to match to the analytic results. When the channels between distant antennas are independent, analytic results show that the introduced scheme achieves the lowest $E_{b/}$$N_{0}$ at target BER 10$^{-6}$ . When the channels between distant antennas are correlated, analytic and simulation results show that the introduced scheme is more robust to the change of channel correlation.n.

In this paper, beamforming algorithm is proposed which can obtain diversity gain in beamforming system that deploy antenna elements with half-wavelength. The proposed algorithm provides beam-pattern using eigen-vectors that span received signal subspace. The criterion to decide optimal rank of eigen-space used for beamforming is also proposed. A beamforming system applied the proposed algorithm shows better performance with diversity gain as getting larger angle spread. This paper provides a description of proposed algorithm with analysis of the performance using various computer simulations.
