A 5 day-old Warmblood foal was presented with a quarter crack due to the dam accidentally stepping on his left hind foot. Physical examination revealed the vertical crack included the coronary band of the medial side of the left hind hoof (quarter crack) with the lower pastern avulsion wound. Different from adult horses, the foot of the 5 day-old foal lacked adequate hoof wall thickness for stainless steel wire insertion and hoof size for a reinforcing fabric to be applied. Therefore, the authors decided to stabilize the edges of the cracked wall only by the polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) composites without wiring and a reinforcing fabric application; and gluing a plastic shoe that was reshaped to protect the lower pastern and to spread pressure to other parts of the hoof when bearing weight. Disinfection and a supportive bandage were applied daily for 2 weeks. A month after the hoof crack accident, lameness had diminished. The quarter crack in this foal was treated successfully by the application of the composites three times with a reshaped gluing shoe, with approximately a month interval over the 4 months. After 4 months, it presented a successful functional recovery and needed no further treatment. When followed up 8 months after the accident, it revealed successful outcomes without hoof shape distortion and unbalanced hoof/limb growth.

In this study, moist curing equipment was used in the exist gang-form system. By achieving sufficient spray curing, the quality of the concrete was improved and the cracking occurred in building's side wall was decreased. The following results could be made as the conclusion. For the compressive strength, all zones showed the similar results. Comparing with the zone without using moist curing equipment, the zone used moist curing equipment showed higher rebound hardness results. For the cracking, the zone utilized moist curing equipment showed the cracking averaged as 6.6 m and the zone without using moist curing equipment showed the cracking averaged as 10.3m. The effectof reducing cracking by utilizing moist curing equipment is about 36 %. Using moist curing equipment is considered as a good solution to reduce the cracking in the structure. Considering all the factors analysed, using moist curing equipment improved the quality of the concrete and decreased the cracking. When this equipment was used in the construction site, it is expected that the construction periodcan be shrunk and the ratio of defect caused by drying shrinkage can be decreased. In this research conditions, The 0.3mm sized moist curing equipment provided the most desirable results on concrete quality and preventing cracking.

Concrete retaining walls are the most common types of geotechnical structures for controlling instable slopes resulting from lateral pressure. In analytical stability, calculation of the concrete retaining walls is regarded as a rigid mass when its safety is required. When cracks in these structures are created, the stability may be enforced and causes to defeat. Therefore, identification, creation and propagation of cracks are among the important steps in control of lacks and stabilization. Using the numerical methods for simulation of crack propagation in concrete retaining walls bodies are among the new aspects of geotechnical analysis. Among the considered analytical methods in geotechnical appraisal, the boundary element method (BEM) for simulation of crack propagation in concrete retaining walls is very convenient. Considered concrete retaining wall of this paper is Pars Power Plant structured in south side in Assalouyeh, SW of Iran. This wall's type is RW6 with 11 m height and 440 m length and endurance of refinery construction lateral forces. To evaluate displacement and stress distributions (${\sigma}_{1,max}/{\sigma}_{3,min}$), the surrounding, especially in tip and its opening crack BEM, is considered an appropriate method. By considering the result of this study, with accurate simulation of crack propagation, it is possible to determine the final status of progressive failure in concrete retaining walls and anticipate the suitable stabilization method.
To study the reverse fault formation process and the stress evolution feature, a simulation test system of reverse fault formation is developed based on the analysis of reverse fault formation mechanism. The system mainly consists of simulation laboratory module, operation console and horizontal loading control system, and data monitoring system. It can represent the fault formation process, induce fault crack initiation and simulate faults of different throws. Simulation tests on reverse fault formation process are conducted by using the simulation test system: horizontal loading is added to one side of the model. the bottom rock layer cracks under the effect of the induction device. The crack dip angle is about 29°. A reverse fault is formed with the expansion of the crack dip angle towards the upper right along the fracture surface and the slippage of the hanging wall over the foot wall. Its formation process unfolds five stages: compressive deformation of rock, local crack initiation, reverse fault penetration, slippage of the hanging wall over the foot wall and compaction of fault plane. There is residual structural stress inside rock after fault formation. The study methods and results have guiding and referential significance for further study on reverse fault formation mechanism and rock stress evolution.

This paper is to investigate the fracture behavior characteristics of box culvert and incremental crack width of upper slab for the incremental loading by the 3-axis loading system. In the 3-axes loading system, loading directions are upper side, left and right side which simulate earth pressure and static traffic load. With the incremental load, crack patterns is investigated on the upper slab, left and right wall. Especially, on the upper slab, crack width is measured by crack gage. Based on the experimental results, structural internal force indices of box culvert are estimated quantitatively.

This paper presents the analytical results on the heat of hydration and induced thermal cracking of the wall elements in LiNAC that is a radioactive shield concrete structure. This wall elements measuring 1.2 m in thickness and 32 m in length tend to exhibit thermal cracking due to heat of hydration and high constraint effects caused by slab element located in the lower part of structure. In this analysis, four different construction stages were considered to find out the most effective concrete casting method in terms of thermal stress. Among the construction methods adopted in this analysis, the method of installation of construction connection measuring 1.2 m at the both side of wall elements was very effective way to control the thermal stress, resulting in increase thermal cracking index of wall elements in LiNAC structure. Finally, the wall elements in LiNAC structure was cast successfully according to the proposed construction method.
In this study, thermal stress analysis are carried out considering material properties, curing condition, ambient temperature, and casting date of the mass concrete placed in bottom slab and side wall of the in-ground type LNG tank as a super massive structure. Also, based on the numerical results, cracking possibility is predicted and counter measures to prevent the cracking are proposed. For the tasks, two optimum mix proportions were selected. From the results of the thermal stress analysis, the through crack index of 1.2 was satisfied for separately caste concrete lots except for the bottom slab caste in 2 separate sequences. For the double caste bottom slab, it is necessary introduce counter measures such as pre-cooling prior to the site construction. Also, another crack preventive measure is to lower the initial casting temperature by $25^{\circ}C$ or less to satisfy 1.2 through crack index criterion. In the $1^{st}$ and $2^{nd}$ caste bottom slab, the surface crack index was over 1.2. Therefore, the surface cracks can be controlled by implementing the curing conditions proposed in this study. Since the side wall's surface crack index was over 1.0, it is safe to assume that the counter preventive measures can control width and number of cracks.
Once a structure fabricated with mass concrete is in a form of wall such as retaining wall, side walls of a concrete caisson and so on, cracks induced by hydration heat have been known to be governed by exterior restraints which are mainly related to the boundary conditions of the structure. However, it is thought that the degree of restraints can be alleviated considerably only if a lift height of concrete placement or a panel size of the wall is selected properly before construction. As a way of minimizing thermal cracking commonly observed in massive wall-typed structure, this study aimed at evaluating effects of geometrical configuration on the temperature rise and thermal stress through parametric study. Evaluation of the effect was also performed for cement types using anti-sulphate cement, blast furnace slag cement and cement blended with two mineral admixture and one ordinary Portland Cement. so called ternary blended cement. As a result of analytical study, it was found that a lift height of concrete placement is the most important factor in controlling thermal cracking in massive wall, and the increase of a lift height is not always positive to the crack occurrence as not expected.
Nickel-based austenitic alloys such as Alloy 82 and 182 had been employed as the weld metals in nuclear power plants (NPPs) due to their high corrosion resistance as well as good mechanical properties. However, since the 2000s, the occurrence of primary water stress corrosion cracking has been reported in conjunction with these alloys in domestic and oversea NPPs. In the present work, we assumed an imaginary crack at the inner surface of a surge nozzle weld that had previously experienced the outside repair welding, and constructed its finite element model. Finite element analysis was performed with respect to the heat transfer, and then to the residual stress for obtaining the total applied stress distributions. These stress distributions were finally converted to the stress intensity factors for estimating crack growth rate. From the comparison of crack growth rate curves for the cases of no repair welding and outside repair welding, it was found that the outside repair welding did not exhibit negative effect on the crack growth for the surge nozzle under consideration in this work; in both cases, the cracks stopped growing before they became the through-wall cracks.
The objective of this study is to propose a method to prevent the possible stress corrosion cracking of a horizontal side-wall sprinkler head deflector in the same atmosphere of ammonia gas as it regulated in the UL (Underwriters Laboratory). A corrosion test is carried out for three types of specimen according to post-forming treatment, one of which is annealing, another sand blasting and the other no treatment. The observation of the test specimens with a metal micro-scope says that the tensile residual stress is a major factor causing corrosion cracking, and that a proper heat treatment can remove or reduce the residial stress and prevent a crack from occurring even in a severe corrosive atmosphers.
