  • Different procedures for estimation of the extreme global wave hydroelastic responses in ships are discussed. Firstly, stochastic procedures for application in detailed numerical studies (CFD) are outlined. The use of the First Order Reliability Method (FORM) to generate critical wave episodes of short duration, less than 1 minute, with prescribed probability content is discussed for use in extreme response predictions including hydroelastic behaviour and slamming load events. The possibility of combining FORM results with Monte Carlo simulations is discussed for faster but still very accurate estimation of extreme responses. Secondly, stochastic procedures using measured time series of responses as input are considered. The Peak-over-Threshold procedure and the Weibull fitting are applied and discussed for the extreme value predictions including possible corrections for clustering effects.

  • In this paper, we studied on the short-circuit process, surface structure, and component variation of vinyl cords. In the results of high speed imaging system (HSIS) analysis, as soon as wire covering was damaged by heat, the conductor of wire came in contact with the other conduct of wire, and the short-circuit occurred. Stereomicroscope and SEM analysis indicated that the source part of wire showed V-type form. The molten beads of load part were bigger than those of source part. In the results of EDX analysis, Cu and O were detected in the source part, whereas covering material (Cl, Ca), Cu and O were detected in the load part. The results will help us to find out the cause of electrical fire.

  • This experiment was conducted to investigate varietal responses to cool temperature (18℃) and short photoperiod (8 hours a day) in a controlled room of phytotron. Five burley tobacco varieties (Nicotiana tabacum L.), Awelius (very early flowering type), Burley 21 and KB 103 (medium), Banket Al and MB 1 (slightly late) and TC 681 (late) were compared in number of leaves per plant and day to flower in different treatment periods (10, 15, 20, 25 and 30 days). The days to flower decreased significantly than the control (in the phytoron with 14hr photoperiods and a minimum temperature 20'c) when the treatment periods were over 15 days for the varieties Aurelius, Burley 21 and KB 103, and 20 days for TC 681, and 30 days for Banket Al, respectively. And also the number of leaves decreased significantly than that of the control when the periods of treatment were over 10 days for Burley 21 and Aurelius, 15 days form 103, and 20 days for TC 681 and Banket Al, and 30 days for MB 1, respectively. The decreasing ratio in the number of leaves per plant under cool temperature and short photoperiod treatments was the lowest in Banket Al and MB 1. Key words : Nicotiana tabacum, cool temperature, short photoperiod.

  • With the phaseout of CFC and HCFC refrigerants, refrigeration and heat pump systems must be redesigned to match and improve system performance with alternative refrigerants. A generalized flow model for predicting mass flow rate through short tube orifices is derived from a power law form of dimensionless parameters generated by Pi-theorem. The database for developing the correlation includes extensive experimental data for R12, R22, R134a, R407C, R410A, and R502 from the open literature. The correlation yields an average deviation of $0.3\%$ and a standard deviation of $6.1\%$ based on the present database. In addition, rating charts for predicting refrigerant flow rate through short tube orifices are generated for R12, R22, R134a, R407C, R410A, and R502.

  • An experimental investigation was performed to develop an empirical correlation of R-410A flowing through short tube orifices working near the critical region. Tests were executed by varying upstream pressure from 2,619 kPa to 4,551 kPa, and upstream subcooling from 2.8 and $11.1^{\circ}C$. The experimental data were represented as a function of major operating parameters and short tube diameter. As compared to mass flow trends at normal upstream pressures, flow dependency on upstream subcooling became more significant at high upstream pressures due to a higher density change. Based on the database obtained from this study and literature, an empirical correlation was developed from a power law form of dimensionless parameters generated by the Buckingham Pi theorem. The correlation yielded good agreement with the data. Approximately $92\%$ of the data were correlated within a relative deviation of $5\%$.

  • Objectives: This was a preliminary study to re-verify the reliability and validity of the Core Seven Emotions Inventory-Short Form (CSEI-s) and to establish standards for an objective scoring system such as T-scores and percentile for the normative group. Methods: Subjects were sampled through population-proportional regional allocation based on adults aged 20 or older and 65 or younger who voluntarily consented. Reliability was analyzed by performing an internal consistency (Cronbach's α) test and calculating means and standard deviations for each scale. The validity was analyzed between the CSEI-s and STAXI-K, SADS, COMOSWB, HADS, K-PANAS, Core emotions VAS. Results: The CSEI-s revealed notable gender discrepancies in aspects such as thought (思), fear (恐), and fright (驚), with women generally scoring higher than men. CSEI-s scores showed statistically significant differences in joy (喜) and thought (思) between those in their 20s and those in their 50s and 60s. As a result of the validity analysis, the seven-factor configuration was found to be statistically valid, and as a result of the correlation analysis with the coexistence scale, the correlation between each emotion and the seven emotions was found to be statistically significant. Cronbach's α for the CSEI-s was .891, showing statistically significant reliability. Conclusions: A preliminary study was conducted to standardize the shortened form of the Core Emotion Scale, and the reliability and validity were confirmed. A main survey of more people should be conducted in the future. Future results can contribute to revitalizing the development of oriental medicine evaluation tools and establishing an evidence base by standardizing the CSEI-s.

  • An increase in senile dementia population has caused social concerns in Korea. The Korean-Boston Naming Test(K-BNT) has been used in assessing naming ability of patients with diffuse brain damage as well as senile dementia. This study was conducted to develop a short from of the K-BNT. to present normative data, and to demonstrate clinical utility of the shortform K-BNT. The participants were 142 healthy elderly adults, ages between 55 and 84, who were sampled in the Seoul-Kyungki area. Twenty patients with mild probable DAT participated in the study. We developed four norms based on education(0∼6 years and more than 6 years) and age(55∼64 and 65∼84 years). The study showed high internal consistency among the items. Further. DAT patients and normal controls showed significant difference in the K-BNT short form scores(F(1, 158) = 23,216, p < .0001). Normative data presented in this study will be useful in evaluating the naming ability of elderly patients in clinical setting.

  • Objective : The experiences in close relationships questionnaire-revised (ECR-R) (Fraley, Waller & Brennan, 2000) is a valuable tool for measuring adult attachment, and its Korean version, the ECRR-K (Kim, 2004), is widely used in Korea. However, given its substantial length, this study was aimed to develop and validate a short version of the ECRR-K called the ECRR-K14. Methods : Two hundred and ninety-four medical students participated in this study in 2016. They completed the ECRR-K, the Perceived Stress Scale (PSS), the Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale (RSES), and the UCLA Loneliness Scale (UCLA-LS). The study authors applied the Rasch rating scale to check each item's model fit and then performed confirmatory factor analyses (CFAs) to test the new scale's validity. Results : The authors selected seven items each for the anxiety and avoidance subscales, and the ECRR-K14 showed fair to good internal consistency (Cronbach's ${\alpha}=0.93$ and 0.92 for anxiety and avoidance, respectively). The anxiety subscale showed concurrent validity with the PSS and the RSES while the avoidance subscale showed concurrent validity with the UCLA-LS. The CFAs also demonstrated the validity of the model with a goodness-of-fit index of 0.916. Conclusion : The ECRR-K14 showed excellent reliability and validity and appears to be a promising instrument for measuring the two attachment dimensions in adults.
