Saccharomyces cerevisiae KNU5377 was examined to assay the recovering capacity against heat and other stressors. Along with a particular fermentation ability that is able to produce ethanol even at high temperature such as $40^{\circ}C$ with a comparable rate to the fermentation at $33^{\circ}C$, this strain also exhibited higher viability than a reference strain owing to its own thermotolerance that conferred the survival after the severe heat shock at $60^{\circ}C$ for 30 minutes. Furthermore, this strain showed outstanding tolerances against $H_2O_2$, ethanol and some chemical compounds. But, especially due to the thermotolerance, this strain has been suspected of other species of yeast. However, ITS (internally transcribed spacer) 1 and 2 sequencing data confirmed this strain was a typical strain of S. cerevisiae. The outstanding tolerances to various environmental stressors Indicate this S. cerevisiae KNU5377 is enough to use both as an on-site potential strain for world-wide alcohol fermentation industry and as a model strain for researches into the routes to acquire the tolerance to various stressors.

The problem of non-ideal detonation propagation velocities in heterogeneous hybrid mixtures is studied in the case of a high explosive with suspended fine aluminum (Al) particles. Since there exist difference in the time scales of the characteristic induction and combustion of High Explosives and solid particles, the process of energy release behind the leading shock front occurs over an extended period of time. The problem is analyzed by the theory of the mechanics of multiphase media with mass, momentum and heat exchanges between particles and gases. The numerical results match the available experimental results of heavily aluminized (5~25% Al weight) HMX explosive obtained previously.
Glycoprotein from the water extract of dried root barks of slippery Elm was investigated for its anticancer immunostimulating activity, The glycoprotein contained molecular weight 15,000 to 500,000 Da, total carbohydrates 55.8 to 72.1%), total uronic acid 30.0 to 30.5%, and total proteins 5.0 to 6.1%. The anticancer immunostimulating activities were examined for both in vitro bioassays such as immune cell proliferation assay, mixed lymphocyte reaction (MLR), direct mitogenicity, T-dependent antibody production, and in vivo bioassays such as septic shock test and anticancer activity test in B16 melanoma transplanted mouse model. In vivo assay, the glycoprotein at the concentration of 3 mg/kg showed the best result that median survival time increased to about 140% in contrast to control groups.
One of the major drawbacks associated with the high-level expression of the recombinant proteins in Escherichia coli is the formation of insoluble inclusion bodies in the cytoplasm. Production of recombinant protein at reduced temperature has proven effective in improving the solubility of a number of structurally and functionally unrelated proteins, but a major limitation of using low temperatures for recombinant protein production in E. coli is the reduced rate of synthesis of the heterologous protein caused by the significant reduction of cell growth rate. Here we investigated the effect of co-expression of CspA, a cold-shock protein known to be RNA chaperone at low temperature, on the productivity of recombinant protein at various temperatures by using green fluorescence protein (GFP) as a model recombinant protein. We could observe that the co-expression of CspA enhanced the productivity of GFP at $15^{\circ}C$ by accelerating the growth of E. coli at the temperature. On the other hand, the CspA coexpression didn't affect the cell growth rate as well as the specific GFP production rate at other tested temperatures, $20^{\circ}C$, $25^{\circ}C$, and $37^{\circ}C$.

In this paper, experimental studies on the shroud separation were performed to investigate characteristics of the shroud separation at mach 3. Shroud separation tests were carried out in the vertical free-jet wind tunnel that is capable of testing separable structures. A shroud model was miniaturized to meet test objectives and test section dimensions of the wind tunnel. Pneumatic Locking and separation mechanisms were designed considering external force due to free stream. High speed cameras were used to record the shroud motion and unsteady shock patterns over the deploying shrouds during the shroud separation process. Also, unsteady pressures on the nose surface were measured by using the pressure sensors. Through the tests, the measurement data necessary for researches on the shroud separation technology were obtained. Shroud separation behaviors and characteristics of unsteady pressure on the nose surface for each external flow conditions were analyzed.

Damper springs in a drive-line absorb the impulsive torque generated when a lock-up clutch is connected directly, instead of via a fluid coupling. Design optimization and finite element analysis were performed to improve the shock- and vibration-absorption capacity of the lock-up clutch. For this purpose, a multi-body dynamics model was developed by including the main parts of a vehicle, such as an engine with a clutch, a transmission, drive shafts and wheels, and a whole mass of a vehicle. The spring constants were selected so that resonance of a system could be avoided. Damper springs were optimized on the basis of the spring constants, impulsive torques, compressed angles, spring counts, fatigue constraints, etc. Topology optimization was performed for three plates with the damper springs. The compliance was set up as an objective function, and volume fraction was fixed below 0.3. A new shape for the plates was proposed on the basis of the topology result.

The Physics of the Plume-induced shock and separation Particularly at a high Plume to exit pressure ratio and supersonic speeds up to Mach 3.0 with and without a passive control method, porous extension, were studied using computational techniques. Mass-averaged Navier-Stokes equations with the RNG $\kappa$-$\varepsilon$ turbulence model were solved using a fully implicit finite volume scheme and a 4-stage Runge-Kutta method. The control methodology for plume-afterbody interactions is to use a perforated wall attached at either the nozzle exit or the edge of the missile base. The Effect of porous wall length on plume interference is also investigated The computational results show the main effect of the porous extension on plume-afterbody interactions is to restrain the plume from strongly underexpanding during a change in flight conditions. With control, a change in porous extension length has no significant effect rut plume interference.

A considerable deal of work has been carried out to get an insight into the gas-solid suspension flows and to specify the particle motion and its influence on the gas flow field. In this paper an attempt is made to develop an analytical model to study the effect of nozzle inlet/exit pressure ratio, particle/gas loading and the particle diameter effect on gas-solid suspension flow. The effect of the particle/gas loading on the mass flow, Mach number, thrust coefficient and static pressure variation through the nozzle is analyzed. The results obtained show that the presence of particles seems to reduce the strength of the shock wave. It is also found that smaller the particle diameter is, bigger will be the velocity as bigger particle will have larger slip velocity. The suspension flow of smaller diameter particles has almost same trend as that of single phase flow with ideal gas as working fluid. Depending on the ambient pressure, the thrust coefficient is found to be higher for larger particle/gas loading or back pressure ratio.

Mobile products, such as cellular phones, PDA and notebook, are subjected to many different mechanical loads, which include bending, twisting, impact shock and vibration. In this study, a cyclic bending test of the BGA package was performed to evaluate the fatigue life. Special bending tester, which was suitable for electronic package, was developed using an electromagnetic actuator. A nonlinear finite element model was used to simulate the mechanical bending deformation of solder joint in BGA packages. The fatigue life of lead-free (95.5Sn4.0Ag0.5Cu) solder joints was compared with that of lead-contained (63Sn37Pb). When the applied load to the specimen is small, the lead-free solder has longer fatigue life than lead-contained solder. The fatigue crack is initialized at the exterior solder joints and is propagated into the inner solder joints.
The purposes of this study were to assess dynamic stability toward pelvis-spine column distortion during running and to compare the typical three-dimensional angular kinematics of the trunk motion; cervical, thoracic, lumbar segment spine and the pelvis from the multi-segmental spine model between exercise group and non-exercise group. Subjects were recruited as exercise healthy women on regular basis (group A, n=10) and non-exercise idiopathic scoliosis women (group B, n=10). Data was collected by using a vicon motion capture system (MX-T40, UK). The pelvis, spine segments column and lower limbs analysiaed through the 3D kinematic angular ROM pattern. There were significant differences in the time-space variables, the rotation motion of knee joint in lower limbs and the pelvis variables; obliquity in side bending, inter/outer rotation in twisting during running leg movement. There were significant differences in the spinal column that is lower-lumbar, upper-lumbar, upper-thoracic, mid-upper thoracic, mid-lower thoracic, lower thoracic and cervical spine at inclination, lateral bending and twist rotation between group A and group B (<.05, <.01 and <.001). As a results, group B had more restrictive motion than group A in the spinal column and leg movement behaved like a 'shock absorber". And the number of asymmetry index (AI) showed that group B was much lager unbalance than group A. In conclusion, non-exercise group was known to much more influence the dynamic stability of equilibrium for bilateral balance. These finding suggested that dynamic stability aimed at increasing balance of the trunk ROM must involve methods and strategies intended to reduce left/right asymmetry and the exercise injury.
