It is necessary to establish wide integrated surveillance system of marine territory to reduce damage caused by maritime security threats, marine pollution and accidents for safe and clean marine use and efficient development of marine resources. For marine surveillance, the information characteristics of space-time specific, accuracy and operability are required, and real-time information about the wide area should be provided at all times. This special issue has been published to identify the characteristics of each platform, evaluate its usability for the establishment of a wide integrated surveillance system, and present the direction for future convergence studies between platforms. Since 2015, KIOST and cooperative research team have been performing the project, "Base research for building wide integrated surveillance system of marine territory using multi-platform" that detect vessels and red tide etc. near real time by using satellite, UAV and HF Ocean Radar. The objective of this special issue is to introduce the significance for an integrated system for maritime surveillance and to create a forum for discussion on recent advances in remote sensing technology and applications for marine disasters, pollution, and accident surveillance.

This study aims to examine at the garden characteristics of salt merchant in Yangzhou, China during the Ming and Qing Dynasties, I looked at the background of garden formation through the literature. In addition, analyzed the garden design method and components of salt merchants. The results were as follows; First, the Yangzhou area in the past has achieved cultural and economic development with the establishment of the ancient Grand Canal. Salt merchants accumulated wealth through trade, and created many gardens under the background of securing materials for create garden through trade, forming political forces through the cultivation of students, and inflow of foreign cultures. Second, salt merchants in Yangzhou asked garden experts to design and create the garden as a place for exchange and relaxation. Also, through the production of landscape changes using Gasan(假山) and a long corridor(長廊), clear classification of spaces using architectural elements, and the placement of buildings in scenic areas adjacent to the water, the gardens with practical and aesthetic functions were owned. Third, the gardens of Yangzhou Salt Merchants have a building-oriented commercial space on the front, and a garden-centered design characteristic on the back. The garden of the commercial zone was built in a simple form using pots, oddly shaped stone, bamboo and fence patterns in the remained space, focusing on the front of the building. The garden at the back formed a curved waterway connected to the canal is refracted across the garden. The garden also features piled stones(疊石), stone bridges and ship-shaped stone building(石舫). In addition, the design reflected the introduction of trees that take into account the climate and color contrast of Yangzhou province, pavement of various materials and patterns.

Incheon Bridge, 18.4 km long sea-crossing bridge, will be opened to the traffic in October 2009 and this will be the new landmark of the gearing up north-east Asia as well as the largest & longest bridge of Korea. Incheon Bridge is the integrated set of several special featured bridges including a magnificent cable-stayed girder bridge which has a main span of 800 m width to cross the navigation channel in and out of the Port of Incheon. Incheon Bridge is making an epoch of long-span bridge designs thanks to the fully application of the AASHTO LRFD (load & resistance factor design) to both the superstructures and the substructures. A state-of-the-art of the geotechnologies which were applied to the Incheon Bridge construction project is introduced. The most Large-diameter drilled shafts were penetrated into the bedrock to support the colossal superstructures. The bearing capacity and deformational characteristics of the foundations were verified through the world's largest static pile load test. 8 full-scale pilot piles were tested in both offshore site and onshore area prior to the commencement of constructions. Compressible load beyond 30,000 tonf pressed a single 3 m diameter foundation pile by means of bi-directional loading method including the Osterberg cell techniques. Detailed site investigation to characterize the subsurface properties had been carried out. Geotextile tubes, tied sheet pile walls, and trestles were utilized to overcome the very large tidal difference between ebb and flow at the foreshore site. 44 circular-cell type dolphins surround the piers near the navigation channel to protect the bridge against the collision with aberrant vessels. Each dolphin structure consists of the flat sheet piled wall and infilled aggregates to absorb the collision impact. Geo-centrifugal tests were performed to evaluate the behavior of the dolphin in the seabed and to verify the numerical model for the design. Rip-rap embankments on the seabed are expected to prevent the scouring of the foundation. Prefabricated vertical drains, sand compaction piles, deep cement mixings, horizontal natural-fiber drains, and other subsidiary methods were used to improve the soft ground for the site of abutments, toll plazas, and access roads. Light-weight backfill using EPS blocks helps to reduce the earth pressure behind the abutment on the soft ground. Some kinds of reinforced earth like as MSE using geosynthetics were utilized for the ring wall of the abutment. Soil steel bridges made of corrugated steel plates and engineered backfills were constructed for the open-cut tunnel and the culvert. Diverse experiences of advanced designs and constructions from the Incheon Bridge project have been propagated by relevant engineers and it is strongly expected that significant achievements in geotechnical engineering through this project will contribute to the national development of the longspan bridge technologies remarkably.
This study focused on the supply-demand and training system of the crew for domestic coastal shipping. First of all, it forecasted the prospect and effect in the future of the crew supply-demand through the analysis to the current situation of crew employment and the internal and external environment changes. Next, it suggested the specific role and alternatives of government, industry and educational institutions after the comparison and examination of the sailor policies among Korea and major shipping countries. In regard to the demand of crew manpower in coastal shipping, it figured out the bottoms and the current circumstances of sailors, and it could anticipate the future demand by the gradational approach. According to the findings, firstly the result of this simulation by the changes of the ship numbers demonstrated that the demand over the next 10 years will be 7,890~8,025 in the case of the growth 0.4%, and 7,894~8,063 in 0.5%. Secondly, assuming the growth 0.1~1%, the result illustrated that the demand will come to 7,879~8,258. This means the fact that the additional manpower has to be input to 20~430 annually from now on. To conclude, this study showed the more rational numbers about the supply-demand than the past researches and displayed the systematic approach to supply and train the crew in domestic coastal shipping.

Recently, according to the low-carbon green growth policy, the Stirling Engine has been increasing the interest of some sort of external combustion engines Stirling Engine is largely divided into three types ${\alpha}$, ${\beta}$ and ${\gamma}$. Among them, a ${\gamma}$-type engine is easy to design and can be applied variously. However, owing to the connection distance between the cylinder and the crank, there was a problem that ${\gamma}$-type occupies a larger volume than the ${\alpha}$ and ${\beta}$-types. As one of the methods to solve this problem, we have to consider about the Yoke crank which have been applied mainly to the ${\alpha}$-type. Because there are two advantages in not only reduction of engine volume but also parallelizing the cylinder. In this study, leading on from the existing design techniques for the Ross Yoke crank, this paper presents a simple method that can apply the yoke crank design of the ${\gamma}$-type stirling engine.

This study has searched to find a program in order to manage simply and practically use the expelled AtoN database from the AtoN Simulator and to support the idea decision for the AtoN placement. It examines a program that manages AtoN database through the hierarchy structure, history card and endowment with condition same as a scenario. And accomplishes this study's goal owing to realizing AtoN operational software that helps for visual, hearing sense, fixed amount verification upon AtoN placement project. The AtoN operational software contributes not only flexible control like a newly establishment, relocation etc, but also supports idea decision for AtoN placement plan through many functions such as condition search, virtual sailing and fixed amount appraisal result exhibition, etc. Through utilization of this, it is to help upon the presupposition of the impact to ship or sailor about many designs and in addition, upon the judgment of whether or not for the efficiency and appropriation of the design. It is expected to reduce possible failure costs and management costs due to AtoN design and placement plans, because to compare more various designs thru the easier verification method.

The marine buoys are operated in various domains, which are navigation route and danger maker, weather and environment monitoring, military strategical element, etc. If the marine buoy is damaged, there consumes many cost and time for recovery or replacement, because of severe environmental condition, and causes a risk possibility of secondary accident. In this paper, we developed an active monitoring and approach alarm providing system using trail cameras and AIS for protection for the marine buoys. To do this, we analyzed existing researches and similar systems, extracted requirements for enhancement, and designed the system architecture that applied the enhanced elements. The main considerations of system enhancement are: integration of AIS and trail cameras, adopting of phased alarm technique by approaching ships, applying of selective communication module, conducting the image processing of ships for providing alarm, and applying thermal cameras. After that, we developed the system using designed architecture and verified effectiveness of the system based on laboratory or field-level tests.
Objectives : The growing elderly population and social changes have fueled a rapid increase in demand for elderly care facilities, but health care services for the elderly, especially oral health services, have long been overlooked. The purpose of this study was to examine the oral health care of elderly residents in elderly care facilities in an effort to provide some information on the elderly's oral health care and the development of dental care programs geared toward institutionalized elderly people. Methods : The subjects in this study were 230 elderly people who were in elderly care facilities in Jeolla Province. An individual interview was held, and they got a dental checkup. As for data analysis, t-test and ANOVA were utilized, and Scheffe post-hoc test was employed. Results : 1. In relation to the subfactors of the quality of life related to oral health, the elderly people investigated got a mean of 4.58, 4.47, 4.38, 4.09, 3.94, 3.91 and 3.76 respectively in activity disorder, mental disorder, social disorder, mental inconvenience, functional disorder, physical pain and physical disorder. 2. Concerning the overall quality of life related to oral health, there were statistically significant gaps in this aspect according to gender, age, presence or absence of systemic disorder, presence or absence of eating difficulties, subjective health status, subjective oral health state and oral health concern. 3. The presence or absence of root caries had a significant relationship to physical pain and social disorder among the subfactors of the OHIP-14, but that had nothing to do with functional disorder, mental inconvenience, physical disorder, mental disorder and activity disorder. Conclusions : The oral health indexes of the institutionalized elderly people in Jeolla Province were measured, and what factors affected the subfactors of oral health was checked. As a result, there appeared a close relation ship between oral health and the quality of life. Therefore effective oral health plans that cater to the elderly should be carried out to improve elderly people's quality of life related to oral health who stay in long-term elderly care facilities. In the future, prolonged research should be implemented from diverse angles for the sake of institutionalized elderly people.

Recently, The MRV (monitoring, reporting and verification) regulation, which measures, reports and verifies the emission gas of vessel to head for member countries of Europe Union (EU), is being implemented. As part this reason, we develop a system that estimates simple fuel consumption and recommends optimized stop-over ports of vessel, to calculate amount of carbon emission. To do this, we analyze fuel, distance and time consumption between port and the other port based on stored voyage data for over 10 years of real-ship, and implement a simple fuel consumption estimation module using analyzed result. Also, we design and implement the optimized route recommendation algorithm, existing navigation route display function including comparison with the optimized routes and user custom route plan function. Therefore, we expect the developed system is helpful when makes a navigation route and so on by reference indexes and we anticipate the system to have a sense for future research which learns and predicts for accuracy result.

Both ends of welding line are often closed by wall in the welding of ship blocks. In this research, seam tracking sensing system for butt welding in the condition with wall was developed. Seam tracking sensing system measures position of carriage from wall and detects root-pass of welding line. The system consists of the laser displacement sensors and ultrasonic sensors. The laser displacement sensor reciprocal1y rotates by the motor and measures a distance from laser sensor to the welding material. The ultrasonic sensor measures a distance between welding system and walls. The distance measured by the ultrasonic sensor is used to get X(driving) position and to determine initial and end point of the weld line. Y(weaving) and Z(height) of the weld line are obtained by the distance measured by the laser displacement sensor and the orientation of the sensor. The sensing system includes the controller that is independent from the welding carriage. The seam tracking sensing system is attached to both side of welding carriage so that interference between welding torch and sensing system can be avoided during the welding. And both side sensing system minimize dead zone. Finally, developed sensing system was adhered to welding carriage and verified usefulness by experiments.
