  • It is easy for a ship passing through confined waters to be exposed in dangers of collisions and grounding due to different hydrodynamic responses. Since marine accidents can cause significant impacts on environments, global economy, and human lives, it is necessary to study the effect of shallow water on hydrodynamic performance of a ship. In this paper, the effect of water depth on resistance performance was investigated using CFD analysis as an initial study for improving navigational safety of a large container ship under confined waters. After a CFD set-up for deep water condition was validated and verified by comparing CFD analysis with model test results, CFD calculations according to ship speed and water depth were conducted. The features were investigated in terms of tendency and physical knowledge related to resistance performance. The increase of resistance due to shallow water effect was reviewed with empirical formula suggested from SWABE JIP. Speed loss due to shallow water effect was additionally reviewed from estimated delivered power according to ship speed and water depth.

  • The present research examines the primary resonance (PR) behaviors of oblique stiffened multilayer functionally graded (OSMFG) shallow shells featuring an FG porous (FGP) core under an external excitation. The research considers two distinct types of FGP cores: one characterized by uniform porosity distribution (UPD) and the other by non-uniform porosity distribution (NPD) along the thickness direction. Furthermore, the study explores two types of shallow shells: one with external oblique stiffeners and one with internal oblique stiffeners, which might have angles that are similar or different from each other. Using the stress function alongside the first-order shear deformation theory (FSDT), the research establishes a nonlinear model for OSMFG shallow shells. The strain-displacement relationships are obtained utilizing FSDT and von-Kármán's geometric assumptions. The Galerkin approach is utilized to discretize the nonlinear governing equations, allowing for the analysis of stiffeners at varied angles. To validate the obtained results, a comparison is made not only with the findings of previous research but also with the response of PR obtained theoretically with the method of multiple scales, using the P-T method. Renowned for its superior accuracy and reliability, the P-T method is deemed an apt selection within this framework. Additionally, the study investigates how differences in material characteristics and stiffener angles affect the system's PR behaviors. The results of this study can be used as standards by engineers and researchers working in this area, and they can offer important information for the design and evaluation of the shell systems under consideration.

  • In this paper, the formal linearization method is used to construct multisoliton solutions for three model of shallow water waves equations. The three models are completely integrable. The formal linearization method is an efficient method for obtaining exact multisoliton solutions of nonlinear partial differential equations. The method can be applied to nonintegrable equations as well as to integrable ones.

  • This paper presents a moving mesh method for solving the hyperbolic conservation laws. Moving mesh method consists of two independent parts: PDE evolution and mesh- redistribution. We compute numerical solution of shallow water equation by using moving mesh methods. In comparison with computations on a fixed grid, the moving mesh method appears more accurate resolution of discontinuities.

  • In this note, we seek traveling wave solutions of a shallow water model in a one dimensional space by a simple but rigorous calculation. From the profile equation of traveling wave solutions, we need to investigate the phase portrait of a one dimensional ordinary differential equation $\tilde{u}^{\prime}=F(\tilde{u})$ connecting two end states of the traveling wave solution.

  • In this study, spin-up flows in a shallow rectangular container are analysed by using three-dimensional computation. We compared our results with those obtained by quasi three-dimensional computation. Our results show that quasi S-D solustion is not accurate enough and it provides far less damped solution.

  • This paper presents an automatic mesh generation considering water depth, which is based on the depth interpolation. The key feature of this method is that the position of a mesh on any depth in the shallow water area can be generated. The Examples are carried out, and the results are shown to be good. This method is shown to be a useful and powerful tool for the flow calculation for the seabed topography.

  • In 64M DRAM, sub-1/4m NMOSFETs with STI(Shallow Trench Isolation), anomalous hump phenomenon of subthreshold region, due to capped p-TEOS/SiN interlayer induced defect, is reported. The hump effect was significantly observed as channel length is reduced, which is completely different from previous reports. Channel Boron dopant redistribution due to the defect should be considered to improve hump characteristics besides consideration of STI comer shape and recess.
