  • We have studied the effect of head of the line blocking (HOLB) on session initiation protocol (SIP) session establishment delays. Our results are based on experiments performed in a test bed and on the public Internet. We used the stream control transmission protocol (SCTP) as a transport for SIP because SCTP can be configured to suffer or to avoid HOLB. Our experiments show that the effect of HOLB on session establishment delays generally starts to be significant starting at fairly low packet loss rates. However, there are scenarios where network conditions are good enough to make the effect of HOLB insignificant.

  • A multicast session protocol in wireless networks reduces the session delay of multicast delivery caused by moving of mobile host. A hand-off scheme, called MSDR (multicast session delay reduction), in mobile networks is proposed. MSDR protocol that minimizes the delay of a session re-establishment uses the basic unicast routing function of the IETF mobile IP and the DFA (designated foreign agent) to provide multicast services for mobile hosts. Proposed MSDR protocol allows the mobile hosts to continuously receive packets when they move across the basic sets during hand-off. Discrete-event simulation carried out for performance evaluation of MSDR protocol, and simulation results indicated that our scheme can offer a better performance of multicast session delay reduction in terms of signalling cost than that of IETF.

  • In this paper, the call setup performance of the CSCF(Call Session Control function) that manages the session control in providing the IMS(IP Multimedia subsystem)-based multimedia service in the BcN(Broadband convergence Network) is analyzed. While the performance related with the call/session of the SIP-Based voice service is analysed, the study for the call recessing performance of the IMS-based multimedia service is insufficient. In this paper, as, the processing capacity and subscriber number of CSCF were changed, the call setup delay time according to the session setup procedure of IMS was measured using the M/M/1 queuing model and OPNET simulation. The experimental results show that the sudden increased delay showed up in case the session establishment requirement ratio of total users over 13% of the CSCF processing capacity. Therefore, the user number and capacity of CSCF suitable for the session establishment delay threshold can be calculated or estimated.

  • With the development of Next Generation convergence Network, the current Internet needs a new network architecture and new session establishment methods, which can support various applications requiring differentiated traffic processing and high quality of service instead of the conventional best-effort service. It is expected that, in next generation network based on All-IP. SIP will play an important role in the session establishment between the end to end user terminals. In this paper, we propose a new network architecture that can provide quality of service based on SIP using the QoS enabled SIP servers and policy servers, and we also propose a new session establishment method that apply the user's demands participating the session establishment when setting up the session using the SIP. Through simulations under various environments, we show the parameter ranges in terms of server capacity and the number of users in access networks to achieve reasonable delay bounds.

  • In this paper, we analyze LADN(Local Area Data Network) that provides high throughput, low latency and service localization for 5G wireless networks and propose an enhanced control protocol design for LADN in 5G wireless networks. The concept of LADN is newly introduced in 3GPP 5G communication system and the LADN is a data network to which the UE(User Equipment) can connect with a specific LADN session only when the UE is located in a certain service area. If the LADN information between the UE and core network is not identical, the LADN session cannot be properly established. The proposed approach promplty synchronizes the LADN information between the UE and core network by using the specific registration procedure and appropriately establishes the LADN session, when the establishment of the LADN session is failed. Consequently, the proposed enhanced control protocol design(ECP) can prevent unnecessary signalling overhead and communication delay for LADN in 5G wireless networks.

  • In this paper, we propose a novel Route_Reconf message as the RSVP message to maintain an RSVP session for hard handoff and consider path-comparing route (PCR) a PCR algorithm to find an intermediate node in the charge of downlink re-establishment. And, we consider information form each mode for the PCR algorithm, which also reduces the frequency and amount of exchanged RSVP message to minimize packet loss and delay between an intermediate node and a receiver. According to the proposed algorithm, a new support node (NSN) and an existing support node (ESN) along the RSVP path can be found; the former is a supporting RSVP session node newly searched and the latter is the last supporting node holding the previous session after handoff. On receiving the Route_Reconf message at the ESN, a new allocated route from a NSN to the MN waiting for the handoff via a new AR is configured by the ESN.

  • In the near future IPTV services will be emerged the various types through Internet, but IMS based IPTV service is one of the very attractive IPTV services. This paper describes the interconnecting architectures of Web based IPTV contents provider to IMS(IP Multimedia System) network and describes the three difference architectures as method to find its IP address. One is the architecture using DNS or HSS to find IP address of Web based IPTV contents provider and connecting gateway function to I-CSCF in IMS. The other is the architecture connecting gateway AS to ISC interface of S-CSCF in IMS. This paper describes the characteristics of traffic generating due to interconnect the Web contents provider, and the traffic model of each architectures. The proposed each architecture is emulated the session establishment delay characteristics in CoD service of IPTV by the simulation. This paper shows that the architecture connecting gateway AS to ISC interface of S-CSCF is the excellent method compare to other two methods in view of the session establishment delay.

  • The VoIP(Voice over Internet Protocol) technology which is able to use a voice service through internet is more cheaper then existing telephone charges, and is easily accept the various of multimedia services from internet. Previous connection method of VoIP used H.323 protocol, but it is very complex to connection establishment. so, the SIP(Session Initiation Protocol) protocol that propose in SIP-Working Group Is in use recently. Therefore, we need new interworking methodology between H.323 and SW products. In this thesis, the progress interworking method between H.323 and SIP are propose, then interpret unnecessary packet delay for call setup and improved feature of message exchange.

  • Recently mobile Stream Control Transmission Protocol (mSCTP) has been proposed as a transport layer approach for supporting mobility. When a mobile terminal (MT) is not located in the home network. a terminal that wishes to communicate with the MT is not able to establish mSCTP association to the MT, since mSCTP does not include the location management mechanism. In order to solve this problem. an interworking approach using the Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) INVITE method has been proposed. However, this approach has shown subsequent delay in acquiring the current location information of the MT when initiating mSCTP association establishment. In this paper, we propose new SIP methods and an approach that minimizes the address acquisition delay (AAD) by utilizing those SIP methods. Mathematical analysis and simulation results show that the proposed approach is more efficient than the previous approach in terms of AAD in all kinds of SIP environments.
