  • For a vision-based driver assistance system, unusual motion detection is one of the important means of preventing accidents. In this paper, we propose a real-time unusual-motion-detection model, which contains two stages: salient region detection and unusual motion detection. In the salient-region-detection stage, we present an improved temporal attention model. In the unusual-motion-detection stage, three kinds of factors, the speed, the motion direction, and the distance, are extracted for detecting unusual motion. A series of experimental results demonstrates the proposed method and shows the feasibility of the proposed model.

  • This paper introduces a method which improves the performance of the identification of splice sites in the genomic DNA sequence of eukaryotes. This method combines a low order Markov model in series with a neural network for the predictions of splice sites. The lower order Markov model incorporates the biological knowledge surrounding the splice sites as probabilistic parameters. The Neural network takes the Markov encoded parameters as the inputs and produces the prediction. Two types of neural networks are used for the comparison. This method reduces the computational complexity and shows encouraging accuracy in the predictions of splice sites when applied to several standard splice site dataset.

  • The chlorine's residual concentration prevents the regrowth of microorganism in water transport along the pipeline system. Precise prediction of chlorine concentration is important in determining disinfectant injection for the water distribution system. In this study, a pilot scale water distribution system was designed and fabricated to measure the temporal variation of chlorine concentration for three flow conditions (V = 0.88, 1.33, 1.95 m/s). Various kinetic models were applied to identify the relationship between hydraulic condition and chlorine decay. Genetic Algorithm (GA) was integrated into five kinetic models and time series of chlorine were used to calibrate parameters. Model fitness was compared by Root Mean Square Error (RMSE) between measurement and prediction. Limited first order model and Parallel first order showed good fitness for prediction of chlorine concentration.

  • The process of papermaking involves water removal on the paper machine wire, in the press section and in the dryer section. In the dryer section, liquid water in the wet web is removed mainly by evaporation. In conventional machine this is achieved by passing the web over a number of steam heated dryer rolls. A drying process of paper on a heated cylinder roll calculated based on a 1-dimensional model which concerns unsteady heat and mass transfer in the direction of paper thickness. In this study, Prediction of moisture contents average paper sheet temperature and volume fraction along a series of cylinder. Independently, developed models is compared using the same reference data. The model is implemented in CFD code, FLUENT, using user-define-function(UDFs).

  • Several isotropic compression-expansion tests and a series of drained conventional traxial tests with various confining pressures for relative density of Beakma river sand 25%, 50%, 80% and 100% selecting Lade's Single Work-Hardening constitutive model. This examination materials use regression analysis as a basis, depending on the relative density of soil parameters change statement attributes. Yield fuction represent the soil parameters h and $\alpha$ is not affected by the changes in the relative density. $\eta_1$ could be replaced by fomula. And Numerical analysis results predicted very good and could confirm that.

  • This paper presents a new user defined modeling about HVDC system based on the PSS/E. The principles, methods and procedures of user defined modeling for dynamic simulation are expounded. Comparing beween the dynamic simulations results of a power system by CDC4T in the PSS/E library and a user defined model CDCKU1 respectively, we illustrate the general usage of custom features and verify the model accuracy. Future work about CDCKU series and practical models will be considered to enhance the power system stability in Korea.

  • In this paper, we compared the performance of the several time series models for tourism demand forecasting. We showed that seasonal effects in the data(Japan, China, USA, and Philippines) exist in the tourism data and the forecasting accuracies are compared by the RMSE criterion.

  • Estimating the effects of price increase on a company's sales is important task faced by managers. If consumer has prior information on price increase or expect it, there would be stockpiling and subsequent drops in sales. In addition, consumer can suppress demand in the short run. Above factors make the sales dynamic and unstable. We develop a time series model to evaluate the sales patterns with stockpiling and short term suppression of demand and also propose a forecasting procedure. For estimation, we use panel data and extend the model to Bayesian hierarchical structure. By borrowing strength across cross-sectional units, this estimation scheme gives more robust and reasonable result than one from the individual estimation. Furthermore, the proposed scheme yields improved predictive power in the forecasting of hold-out sample periods.

  • A reliable tool wear monitoring technique is the one of important aspects for achieving an integrated and self-adjusting manufacturing system. In this paper, a tool wear estimation approach for turning is proposed. This approach uses the model of cutting force, spindle displacement and their relation. A series of experiments were conducted by designing experimental techniques to determine the relationship between flank wear and cutting force coefficient as well as cutting parameters such as cutting speed, depth of cut and feed. The proposed model performance has shown that the spindle displacement model predicts tool wear with high accuracy and spindle displacement signal is possible to replace cutting force signal.

  • A kinetic theory analysis is made of low-speed gas flows in microchannels. The Boltzmann equation simplified by a collision model is solved by means of a finite difference approximation with the discrete ordinate method. The method does not suffer from statistical noise which is common in particle based methods and requires much less amount of computational effort. Calculations are made for flows in simple microchannels and a microfluidic system consisting of two microchannels in series. The method is assessed by comparing the results with those from several different methods and available experimental data.
