Recently, automatic text summarization, which automatically summarizes only meaningful information for users, is being studied steadily. Especially, research on text summarization using Transformer, an artificial neural network model, has been mainly conducted. Among various studies, the GSG method, which trains a model through sentence-by-sentence masking, has received the most attention. However, the traditional GSG has limitations in selecting a sentence to be masked based on the degree of overlap of tokens, not the meaning of a sentence. Therefore, in this study, in order to improve the quality of text summarization, we propose SbGSG (Semantic-based GSG) methodology that selects sentences to be masked by GSG considering the meaning of sentences. As a result of conducting an experiment using 370,000 news articles and 21,600 summaries and reports, it was confirmed that the proposed methodology, SbGSG, showed superior performance compared to the traditional GSG in terms of ROUGE and BERT Score.
In multi-document summarization by means of salient sentence extraction, it is important to remove redundant information. In the removal process, the similarities and differences of sentences are considered. In this paper, we propose a method for multi-document summarization which extracts salient sentences without having redundant sentences by way of cohesive term clustering method that utilizes co-occurrence Information. In the cohesive term clustering method, we assume that each term does not exist independently, but rather it is related to each other in meanings. To find the relations between terms, we cluster sentences according to topics and use the co-occurrence information oi terms in the same topic. We conduct experimental tests with the DUC(Document Understanding Conferences) data. In the tests, our method shows better performance of summarization than other summarization methods which use term co-occurrence information based on term cohesion of document or sentence unit, and simple statistical information.
In a newspaper, 5W1H information is the most fundamental and important element for writing and understanding articles. Focusing on such a relation between a newspaper article and the 5W1H, we propose a summarization method based on the activation degree of 5W1H. To overcome problems of the lead-based and the title-based methods, both of which are known to be the most effective in newspaper summarization, sufficient 5W1H information is extracted from both a title and a lead sentence. Moreover, for each sentence, its weight is computed by considering various factors, such as activation degree of 5W1H, the number of 5W1H categories, and its length and position. These factors make a great contribution to the selection of more important sentences, and thus to the improvement of readability of the summarized texts. In an experimental evaluation, the proposed method achieved a precision of 74.7% outperforming the lead-based method. In sum, our 5W1H approach was shown to be promising for automatic summarization of newspaper articles.

Document summarization is an important task in various areas where the goal is to select a few the most descriptive sentences from a given document as a succinct summary. Even without training data of human labeled summaries, there has been several interesting existing work in the literature that yields reasonable performance. In this paper, within the same unsupervised learning setup, we propose a more principled learning framework for the document summarization task. Specifically we formulate an optimization problem that expresses the requirements of both faithful preservation of the document contents and the summary length constraint. We circumvent the difficult integer programming originating from binary sentence selection via continuous relaxation and the low entropy penalization. We also suggest an efficient convex-concave optimization solver algorithm that guarantees to improve the original objective at every iteration. For several document datasets, we demonstrate that the proposed learning algorithm significantly outperforms the existing approaches.
In this paper, we describes a system that extracts important sentences from Korean newspaper articles using automatic paragraphing. First, we detect repeated words between sentences. Through observation of the repeated words, this system compute Closeness Degree between Sentences(CDS ) from the degree of morphological agreement and the change of grammatical role. And then, it automatically divides a document into meaningful paragraphs using the number of paragraph defined by the user´s need. Finally. it selects one representative sentence from each paragraph and it generates summary using representative sentences. Though our system doesn´t utilize some features such as title, sentence position, rhetorical structure, etc., it is able to extract meaningful sentences to be included in the summary.

To attain an understanding of customers' opinions or demands regarding a companies' products or service, it is important to consider VOC (Voice of Customer) data; however, it is difficult to understand contexts from VOC because segmented and duplicate sentences and a variety of dialog contexts. In this article, POS (part of speech) and morphemes were selected as language resources due to their semantic importance regarding documents, and based on these, we defined an LSP (Lexico-Semantic-Pattern) to understand the structure and semantics of the sentences and extracted summary by key sentences; furthermore the LSP was introduced to connect the segmented sentences and remove any contextual repetition. We also defined the LSP by categories and classified the documents based on those categories that comprise the main sentences matched by LSP. In the experiment, we classified the VOC-data documents for the creation of a summarization before comparing the result with the previous methodologies.
This paper describes an automatic summarization approach that constructs a summary by extracting sentences that are likely to represent the main theme of a document. As a way of selecting summary sentences, the system uses a model that takes into account lexical and statistical information obtained from a document corpus. As such, the system consists of two parts: the training part and the summarization part. The former processes sentences that have been manually tagged for summary sentences and extracts necessary statistical information of various kinds, and the latter uses the information to calculate the likelihood that a given sentence is to be included in the summary. There are at least three unique aspects of this research. First of all, the system uses a text component identification model to categorize sentences into one of the text components. This allows us to eliminate parts of text that are not likely to contain summary sentences. Second, although our statistically-based model stems from an existing one developed for English texts, it applies the framework to individual features separately and computes the final score for each sentence by combining the pieces of evidence using the Dempster-Shafer combination rule. Third, not only were new features introduced but also all the features were tested for their effectiveness in the summarization framework.

In this paper, we present the document summarizers which are simpler and more condense than the existing ones generally used in the web search engines. This method is a statistic-based summarization method using the concept of the complete graph. We suppose that each sentence as a vertex and the similarity between two sentences as a link of the graph. We compare this summarizer with those of Clustering and MMR techniques which are well-known as the good summarization methods. For the comparison, we use FScore using the summarization results generated by human subjects. Our experimental results verify the accuracy of this method, being about $30\%$ better than the others.
