  • This study aimed at analyzing the sensitivity of ozone simulation in accordance with the meteorological nudging for a high nocturnal ozone episode. To demonstrate the effectiveness of nudging methods (e.g., nudging techniques and application domains), the following six experiments were designed: (1) control without nudging, (2) experiment with application of observation nudging to all domains (domain 1~4), and (3)~(6) experiments with application of grid nudging to domain 1, domain 1~2, domain 1~3 and all domains, respectively. As a result, the meteorological nudging had a direct (improvement of input data) and indirect (estimate natural emission) effect on ozone simulation. Nudging effects during the daytime were greater than those during the nighttime due to low accuracy of wind direction during the nighttime. On comparison of the nudging techniques, the experiments in which grid nudging was applied showed more improved results than the experiments in which observation nudging was applied. At this time point, the simulated concentrations were generally similar to the observed concentrations due to the increase in the nudging effect when grid nudging was applied up to the sub-domain. However, for high nocturnal ozone uptakes, the experiment in which grid nudging was applied do domain 1~3 showed better results than the other experiments. This is because, when grid nudging was applied to the high resolution domain (e.g., domain 4 with 1 km), the local characteristics were removed due to the smoothing effects of meteorological conditions.

  • This study performs a computational fluid dynamics (CFD) analysis of the inner flow of a multihole injector nozzle by using ANSYS CFX 13.0. Based on the obtained results, a design of experiment (DOE) was performed and applied to investigate the effects of injector nozzle design parameters on cavitation. To analyze the design sensitivity and signal-to-noise ratio (S/N ratio), the hole diameter, hole length, hole angle, and K-factor of the nozzle hole were selected as design parameters, and the effect of these parameters was investigated at 16 experimental points. Consequently, it was found that the effect of the K-factor on the cavitation and inner flow of the injector nozzle is the greatest. Thus, the selection of a suitable K-factor is important in nozzle design considering cavitation flow.

  • Green stem disorder (GSD) of soybean (Glycine max (L.) Merr.) is characterized by delayed senescence of stems with normal pod ripening and seed maturation (Hobbs, 2006). GSD complicates harvesting of soybeans by significantly increasing the difficulty in cutting the affected plants. There is also the potential for moisture in the stems to be scattered on the seed, reducing the grade and storability of the seed. Not only the cause of GSD is yet unknown, but also GSD cannot be evaluated until maturity, therefore the method to evaluate GSD in early growth stage with high sensitivity is necessary. In previous studies, it has been reported that vegetative storage protein (VSP) accumulates and the syndrome of GSD appears in soybean after depod treatment (Fischer, 1999). Soybean VSP is a storage protein which is abundant in young sink leaves and degraded during seed fill (Wittenbach, 1982). Hence, we have established a system to quantify VSP of high sensitivity by using standard protein made by genetically transformed E. coli and specific antibody against VSP, and studied the relationship between VSP and GSD, by depod experiment and drought/excess wet experiments. The result of depod experiment with the cultivar 'Yukihomare' was the same with the previous studies, VSP accumulated much more than control and the syndrome of GSD appeared in soybean in depod treatment. Drought and excess wet had different impact on GSD. Excess wet caused GSD of the cultivar 'Tachinagaha (GSD susceptible)', while drought caused a little syndrome of GSD in the cultivar 'Touhoku 129 (GSD resistant)'. The accumulation of VSP differed between the two cultivars over time. In conclusion, the accumulation of VSP came along with the emergence of GSD. Different cultivars showed different response to drought and excess wet. In the future, it is expected that the dynamics of VSP will be elucidated in detail, leading to the development of early diagnosis technology for green stem disorder and the elucidation of mechanism of soybean GSD.

  • The purpose of this study is to build and evaluate a high-resolution (50 m) KMAPP (Korea Meteorological Administration Post Processing) reflecting building data. KMAPP uses LDAPS (Local Data Assimilation and Prediction System) data to detail ground wind speed through surface roughness and elevation corrections. During the detailing process, we improved the vegetation roughness data to reflect the impact of city buildings. AWS (Automatic Weather Station) data from a total of 48 locations in the metropolitan area including Seoul in 2019 were used as the observation data used for verification. Sensitivity analysis was conducted by dividing the experiment according to the method of improving the vegetation roughness length. KMAPP has been shown to improve the tendency of LDAPS to over simulate surface wind speeds. Compared to LDAPS, Root Mean Square Error (RMSE) is improved by approximately 23% and Mean Bias Error (MBE) by about 47%. However, there is an error in the roughness length around the Han River or the coastline. Accordingly, the surface roughness length was improved in KMAPP and the building information was reflected. In the sensitivity experiment of improved KMAPP, RMSE was further improved to 6% and MBE to 3%. This study shows that high-resolution KMAPP reflecting building information can improve wind speed accuracy in urban areas.

  • Monitoring for the sensitivity of Colletotrichum spp. causing red-pepper anthracnose to chlorothalonil was conducted by the agar dilution method, which were isolated from infected pepper fruits in 1999 and 2002. Among the isolates in 1999 or 2002, their sensitivity to fungicide was fluctuated. Investigating the inhibitory effect of $500{\mu}g/m\ell$ of chlorothalonil on the mycelial growth of Colletotrichum isolates isolated from the infected red-pepper fruits in 1999, the frequency of isolates was 23.4%, which showed 100% of inhibitory effect on mycelial growth, and 29.7% showing below 60%. Isolates in 2002, however, showed 34.6% and 14.8% of inhibitory effect on PDAs including the same concentration of fungicide, respectively, These results showed that the sensitivity of Colletotrichum isolates in 1999 was inferior to that in 2002. According to the sampling region, isolation frequency among isolates in 2002 showing less MIC rather than 1999 was increased in Kyunggi, Kangwon, Kyungbuk and Kyungnam while the frequency of resistant isolates was done in Chungnam, Chungbuk, Cheonnam and Cheonbuk Fungicide monitoring results in this report will be of use on controlling the anthracnose in each region cultivating red-pepper.

  • Genetic transformation carried out to induce the pathogenicity mutants from the two isolates, Elsinoe fawcettii R-34 and MUD of citrus scab fungus to hygromycin resistant by transferring plasmides (pUCATPH) that contain hygB gene. We produced protoplast for transformation by using of combinations of available enzymes including ${\beta}$-D-glucanase, ${\beta}$ -glucuronidase, Iyticase and driselase. The protoplasts regenerated at 64 $\mu\textrm{g}$/ml of hygromycin B but not 128 $\mu\textrm{g}$ in sensitivity test to identify the concentration of useful marker for the selection of transformants. Approximately 1200 and 67 hygromycin resistant isolates from strain R-34 and strain MUD, respectively, were isolated on PDA added with 200 $\mu\textrm{g}$ /ml of hygromycun B. Fifty seven and 4 of hygromycin resistant isolates from strain R-34 and MUD, respectively, did not produce necrotic lesions on the leaf in detached-leaf assay. Finally, 9 isolates were isolated from strain R-34, and these Isolates produced non or very few symptoms on seedlings of citrus in greenhouse pathogenicity test. And it's very interesting that some isolates produced melanose-like symptom on very young leaves which it was not typical symptom and somtimes produced on only expanded leaf.

  • In this study, a microchip system fabricated with MEMS technology was developed to detect bioelectrical signals. The developed microchip using the conductivity of gold nanoparticles could detect the biopotential with a high sensitivity. For designing the microchip, simulations were performed to understand the effects of the size and number of nanoparticles, and the sensing width between electrodes on the detection of biosignals. Then, a series of experiment was performed to validate the simulation results and understand the feasibility of the proposed microchip design. Both simulation and experimental results showed that as the sensing width between electrodes increased the conductivity decreased. Also, the conductivity increased as the density of gold nanoparticles increased. In addition, it was found that the conductivity that changes with the nanoparticles density could be approximated by a cumulative normal distribution function. The developed microchip system could effectively apply when a biosignals should be measured with a high sensitivity.

  • A fiber-optic liquid level sensor based on bending cantilever beam has been proposed. A fiber Bragg grating(FBG) embedded in the cantilever beam is used to sensing elements. The basic concept is elongation and constriction of the FBG corresponding to the liquid level variation. The best FBG position on the cantilever for obtaining the high sensitivity was 4 cm from the fixing point. When the liquid level moves up and down vertically, the Bragg wavelength is linearly shifted. But, the wavelength sensitivity of the FBG installed on the upper side of cantilever was four times better than that of the FBG equipped in the lateral side due to the difference of unit strain applied to the FBG. Intensity demodulation using the low-cost edge filter is used to interrogate the Bragg wavelength through converting the wavelength signals into the optical intensity ones. Experiment results show that the electrical output is exponentially proportional to the liquid level. But, it should be overcome for applying to the ships.

  • When a moving piezoelectric transducer detects an object in water, its receiving sensitivity is attenuated by Doppler effect. In this paper, a method for compensating the effect is suggested by using a newly designed condenser of which capacitance is varied according to the moving speed of the transducer. Using the method, the receiving resonant frequency of the transducer can be changed automatically. As a result, there is good agreement between the results of experiment and those of calculation. It is confirmed that the response sensitivity degradation of transducers due to Doppler effect can be compensated in the range of $1{\sim}10^m/_s$ moving speed.

  • This paper proposed a dual actuator using Bimorph PZT for information storage device based on prove array NSOM(near-field scanning optical microscopy). The gap between the media and the optical head should be maintained within the optical tolerance. Therefore, a new actuator having high sensitivity is required. Bimorph PZT, which has fast access time and high sensitivity characteristic, is suitable for this precise actuating system. This paper is focused on derivation of mathematical model of dual Bimorph PZT actuator and control algorithm. Hamilton's principle was used for mathematical model. The model is verified by FEA(finite element analysis), and compared with experimental results. Different control algorithms were used for two Bimorph PZT actuating same direction and opposite direction. The gap between recording media and optical head was controlled within 20nm in experiment.
