$TiO_2$ Sol을 이용한 습도감지소자의 제작 및 특성 (Fabrication and Characteristics of Humidity Sensing Device using $TiO_2$ Sol)

  • Humidity sensors using $TiO_2$ thin films were fabricated on the multi-electrode device by Sol-Gel method and their wettability, surface potential decays and humidity sensing characteristics were investigated. Contact angle of thin films was $28^{\cic}\;at\; 400^{\circ}C$ and surface potential decayed rapidly at $400^{\circ}C$. The specimen showed best humidity sensing characteristics at $400^{\circ}C$. From the results, they were confirmed that humidity sensing characteristics of thin films have connection with contact angle and surface potential decays.

Optimal Channel Sensing for Heterogeneous Cognitive Networks: An Analytical Approach

  • The problem of optimal channel sensing in heterogeneous cognitive networks is considered to maximize the system throughput performance. The characteristics of an optimal operating sensing point maximizing the overall system rate are investigated under several rate criteria including the sum rate, the minimum of the primary and secondary rates, and the secondary rate with a guaranteed primary rate. Under the sum rate criterion, it is shown that the loss by imperfect sensing is no greater than half of the sum rate achieved by the perfect time sharing approach in a two user case if the sensing point is optimally designed.

  • MPA (Multi-Point Averaging) flow element is a new type of differential pressure (DP) flow-sensing device that was developed by Seojin Instech to improve the operating characteristics of the conventional Averaging Pilot Tube (APT) flow elements. Operating characteristics of a flowmeter in general can be defined in terms of measurement accuracy and range. Improvement of accuracy and expanding the range of flow measurement were the two main objectives of the development. To achieve these dual objectives several upstream and downstream pressure-sensing holes were placed in MPA flow element. During the course of the development it was found that certain arrangements of the pressure-sensing holes improved measurement accuracy but did not expand operating flow range of Averaging Pilot Tubes. Development tests were performed with water between Reynolds number of 50,000 and 1,000,000 in the four-inch test line at the Alden Research Laboratory, U.S.A. Purpose of this paper is to present the relationship between the various locations of the pressure-sensing holes and the performance characteristics of MPA flow element. Furthermore, the operating characteristics of the best performing MPA are compared with those of typical orifice and APT.

Thermomechanical and electrical resistance characteristics of superfine NiTi shape memory alloy wires

  • Structural health monitoring and structural vibration control are multidisciplinary and frontier research directions of civil engineering. As intelligent materials that integrate sensing and actuation capabilities, shape memory alloys (SMAs) exhibit multiple excellent characteristics, such as shape memory effect, superelasticity, corrosion resistance, fatigue resistance, and high energy density. Moreover, SMAs possess excellent resistance sensing properties and large deformation ability. Superfine NiTi SMA wires have potential applications in structural health monitoring and micro-drive system. In this study, the mechanical properties and electrical resistance sensing characteristics of superfine NiTi SMA wires were experimentally investigated. The mechanical parameters such as residual strain, hysteretic energy, secant stiffness, and equivalent damping ratio were analyzed at different training strain amplitudes and numbers of loading-unloading cycles. The results demonstrate that the detwinning process shortened with increasing training amplitude, while austenitic mechanical properties were not affected. In addition, superfine SMA wires showed good strain-resistance linear correlation, and the loading rate had little effect on their mechanical properties and electrical resistance sensing characteristics. This study aims to provide an experimental basis for the application of superfine SMA wires in engineering.

반발특성을 이용한 수박의 숙도판별 센서의 개발 (Development of Measuring Sensor for Discriminating Maturity of Watermelon on Repulsion Characteristics)

  • Finding of internal quality is crucial for getting under control quality of watermelon after harvest. A maturity sensing device of watermelon using repulsion characteristics was developed and evaluated. In this study, five different sensing probes were used to detect the physical changes after impact on watermelons. Total 15 watermelons were tested and evaluated into two classes: ripe and unripe. It was difficult to detect the overripe watermelons using the proposed sensor. Therefore, the results showed that the developed sensor could be used to separate unripe watermelons after harvest. The results from this study are summarized as follows. 1. It was successful to distinguish between the ripe and unripe watermelon by sensing the elastic characteristics on impact. 2. The hemisphere was best for the shape of sensing part because the hemisphere concentrate stress in impact part. 3. Among the five type developed sensor, the 1, 2, 3. 5-type sensor showed good character in distinguishing between ripe and unripe watermelon.

  • Rainfall characteristics for designing the optimum millimeter-wave communication systems from two rainfall data set was analyzed. Two rainfall data sets were compared; one-minute rainfall rate data, one-hour synoptic observation data. Each data set has different observation method, sampling frequency. We looked for tendency and quality confluence between two data sets. We showed several results using one-minute rainfall data by millimeter-wave attenuation model. A climatological one-minute rainfall rate data set over Korean Peninsula will be made after data quality control procedure

  • In this research, the concrete with paint film was classified using hyper-spectral remote sensing. First, spectral characteristics of concrete and concrete with some kinds of paint films were investigated with a spectrometer. Second, using reflectance and first order derivative, spectral characteristics of the normal concrete and the concrete with paint film were classified. By using hyper-spectral remote sensing, not only extraction of crack but also inspection of paint film distribution is possible.

Fatigue characteristics of distributed sensing cables under low cycle elongation

  • When strain sensing cables are under long-term stress and cyclic loading, creep may occur in the jacket material and each layer of the cable structure may slide relative to other layers, causing fatigue in the cables. This study proposes a device for testing the fatigue characteristics of three types of cables operating under different conditions to establish a decay model for observing the patterns of strain decay. The fatigue characteristics of cables encased in polyurethane (PU), GFRP-reinforced, and wire rope-reinforced jackets were compared. The findings are outlined as follows. The cable strain decayed exponentially, and the decay process involved quick decay, slow decay, and stabilization stages. Moreover, the strain decay increased with the initial strain and tensile frequency. The shorter the unstrained period was, the more similar the initial strain levels of the strain decay curves were to the stabilized strain levels of the first cyclic elongation. As the unstrained period increased, the initial strain levels of the strain decay curves approached those of the first cyclic elongation. The tested sensing cables differed in the amount and rate of strain decay. The wire rope-reinforced cable exhibited the smallest amount and rate of decay, whereas the GFRP-reinforced cable demonstrated the largest.

열처리 온도 및 산화층 두께에 따른 ReRAM 특성 연구 (The Study on the Characteristics of ReRAM with Annealing Temperature and Oxide Thickness)

  • 본 연구에서는 열처리를 하지 않은 소자와 열처리 소자의 기본 특성을 비교, 분석하고 온도에 따른 특성 변화를 확인하였다. 사용된 소자는 상부전극이 Pt/Ti(150nm), 하부전극은 Pt(150nm), 산화층은 $HfO_2$(70nm)이고, 열처리 온도는 $500^{\circ}C$, $850^{\circ}C$ 이다. 측정 소자 성능은 Set/Reset 전압, sensing window(저항상태 차이)다. 측정결과 세 종류의 소자의 기본 특성은 열처리별 온도가 높을수록 Set/Reset전압과 sensing window가 증가하였다. 온도에 따른 기본특성 분석 실험 결과 온도가 증가함에 따라 Set/Reset전압과 sensing window가 감소하였다. Set/Reset 전압의 온도에 따른 변화율은 $850^{\circ}C$ 열처리한 소자가 제일 작았고, sensing window의 변화율은 $500^{\circ}C$ 열처리 소자에서 가장 작은 변화율을 보였다. Set/Reset 전압의 변화율 과 sensing window를 고려했을 때 $500^{\circ}C$ 열처리 소자가 좋은 메모리 특성을 보였다.

  • This paper deals with sensing ability of smart sensor that has a sensing ability of distinguish materials. We have developed new signal processing method that have distinguish different materials. We made the two type of smart sensors for experiment. The first type of smart sensor is H2 type. The second type of smart sensor is HH type. The smart sensor was developed for recognition of material. And then we developed estimation method of sensing ability of smart sensors. The first method(Sensing Ability Index) is developed for H2 smart sensor. The second method($R_{SAI}$ Index) is developed for HH smart sensor. We estimated sensing ability of smart sensor with new SAI and $R_{SAI}$ method. This paper describes our primary study for a new method of estimate sensing ability of smart sensor, which is need for precision work system. This is a study of dynamic characteristics of smart sensor according to frequency and displacement changing with new SAI and $R_{SAI}$ method. Experiment and analysis are executed for proper dynamic sensing condition. First, we developed advanced smart sensors. Second, we develop new SAI and $R_{SAI}$ methods that have a sensing ability of distinguish materials. Dynamic characteristics of smart sensor are evaluated through new SAI and $R_{SAI}$ method relatively. We can use the new SAI and $R_{SAI}$ method for finding materials. Applications of this method are finding abnormal condition of object(auto-manufacturing), feeling of object(medical product), robotics, safety diagnosis of structure, etc.
