  • The aim of this study is to investigate free vibration of functionally graded porous nanocomposite rectangular plates where the internal pores and graphene platelets (GPLs) are distributed in the matrix either uniformly or non-uniformly according to three different patterns. The elastic properties of the nanocomposite are obtained by employing Halpin-Tsai micromechanics model. The GPL-reinforced plate is modeled using a semi-analytic approach composed of generalized differential quadrature method (GDQM) and series solution adopted to solve the equations of motion. The proposed rectangular plates have two opposite edges simply supported, while all possible combinations of free, simply supported and clamped boundary conditions are applied to the other two edges. The 2-D differential quadrature method as an efficient and accurate numerical tool is used to discretize the governing equations and to implement the boundary conditions. The convergence of the method is demonstrated and to validate the results, comparisons are made between the present results and those reported by well-known references for special cases treated before, have confirmed accuracy and efficiency of the present approach. New results reveal the importance of porosity coefficient, porosity distribution, graphene platelets (GPLs) distribution, geometrical and boundary conditions on vibration behavior of porous nanocomposite plates. It is observed that the maximum vibration frequency obtained in the case of symmetric porosity and GPL distribution, while the minimum vibration frequency is obtained using uniform porosity distribution.

  • In this research, a practical deep learning framework to differentiate the lesions and nodules in breast acquired with ultrasound imaging has been proposed. 7408 ultrasound breast images of 5151 patient cases were collected. All cases were biopsy proven and lesions were semi-automatically segmented. To compensate for the shift caused in the segmentation, the boundaries of each lesion were drawn using Fully Convolutional Networks(FCN) segmentation method based on the radiologist's specified point. The data set consists of 4254 benign and 3154 malignant lesions. In 7408 ultrasound breast images, the number of training images is 6579, and the number of test images is 829. The margin between the boundary of each lesion and the boundary of the image itself varied for training image augmentation. The training images were augmented by varying the margin between the boundary of each lesion and the boundary of the image itself. The images were processed through histogram equalization, image cropping, and margin augmentation. The networks trained on the data with augmentation and the data without augmentation all had AUC over 0.95. The network exhibited about 90% accuracy, 0.86 sensitivity and 0.95 specificity. Although the proposed framework still requires to point to the location of the target ROI with the help of radiologists, the result of the suggested framework showed promising results. It supports human radiologist to give successful performance and helps to create a fluent diagnostic workflow that meets the fundamental purpose of CADx.

  • This study investigated the effects of applying the flipped classroom approach with MOOC to the college educational system. A total of six undergraduate students participated in the 10-week innovative learning setting. The participants performed online activities using the learning content from a MOOC website; this was followed by a participatory learning process in the offline classroom. The semi-structured face-to-face interviews for the six participants after the classes were completed and analyzed. The results showed that the instructional method enabled students to be highly motivated and to perform learning activities. However, there were some limitations: (1) learning was impeded due to English language issues and (2) the Korean education culture was still unfamiliar with this pedagogical method. Finally, suggestions for future research are discussed.

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze the relationship between the controlling shareholding ratio and the business diversification of savings banks The difference in this study is the analysis of the relationship between the controlling shareholding ratio of the savings bank and the business diversification using panel data. In this study, the semi-annual financial statements for the period 2014-2018 were used on the basis of a sample of 79 saving banks. The research model is analyzed using random effects generalized linear square (GLS) model considering the autocorrelation problem. As a result of the empirical analysis, it is estimated that the relationship between the controlling shareholding ratio of the savings bank and the business diversification is significant (+). This is the result of supporting the hedging hypothesis.

  • The purpose of this study is to qualitatively analyze the perceptions of aesthetic values of working women taking ballet fitness classes and to find ways to properly establish ballet fitness classes according to the opinions of the study participants. Participants in the study were 9 working women taking ballet fitness classes at local educational institutions, and FGI (Focus Group Interview) was conducted, and the interview was conducted based on a semi-structured questionnaire. Subsequently, the categorization content was derived through expert review and peer review. As a result, first, the study participants expressed their dissatisfaction, hoping that the ballet fitness class helped improve their daily enjoyment and pain, and even watched ballet performance with interest. Second, the participants of the study were actively publicizing the benefits of ballet fitness classes to their families and nearby acquaintances, and hoped that this exercise would help improve the difficult image of ballet. Based on this study, ballet fitness classes were expected to be sufficiently established as a hobby exercise for working women.

  • The current study investigates how Malaysian ESL learners' L2 (English) speaking fluency is reflected in advanced L2 reading and what difficulties they encounter in reading comprehension. Nine Malaysian students attending a Korean university participated in qualitative research using in-depth and semi-structured interviews. The data revealed that L2 was a very familiar language, and their speaking fluency in L2 reduced the anxiety of L2 reading in general. However, it did not play a significant role in reading at an advanced level. Their difficulties in reading were mainly due to a lack of vocabulary knowledge. However, insufficient background knowledge and interest also frustrated their reading tasks. These factors lowered their reading comprehension, causing inaccurate interpretations or discouraging their endeavors to find messages from the given text. Thus, these findings should be carefully addressed in reading classes for Korean L2 learners as well as international students.

  • Recently, community welfare centers including the elderly welfare centers are also interested in the issue of loneliness and are attempting a comprehensive approach to care for the elderly in the community. The problem is that there is a need for volunteers who are sustainable, but trained semi-professionals rather than non-professionals.Therefore, ways to provide education programs that can be based on continuous supplementation and specialization of manpower and to apply them to the field are being sought. The purpose of this study is to present a plan through examples with the aim of linking college students majoring in social welfare as a major resource for preventing loneliness of elderly people living alone in local communities through volunteer activities. It was suggested that volunteer activities of college students majoring in social welfare should be provided more systematically to the elderly living alone in the community.

  • Automobiles have been used as simple means of transportation, but recently, as automobiles are rapidly becoming intelligent and smart, and automobile preferences are increasing, research on IT technology convergence is underway, requiring basic high-performance functions such as driver's convenience and safety. As a result, autonomous driving and semi-autonomous vehicles are developed, and these technologies sometimes deviate from lanes due to environmental problems, situations that cannot be judged by autonomous vehicles, and lane detectors may not recognize lanes. In order to improve the performance of lane departure from the lane detection system of autonomous vehicles, which is such a problem, this paper uses fast recognition, which is a characteristic of YOLO(You only look once), and is affected by the surrounding environment using CSI-Camera. We propose a lane detection system that recognizes the situation and collects driving data to extract the region of interest.

  • This paper deals with free vibration of FG sandwich annular sector plates on Pasternak elastic foundation with different boundary conditions, based on the three-dimensional theory of elasticity. The plates with simply supported radial edges and arbitrary boundary conditions on their circular edges are considered. The influence of carbon nanotubes (CNTs) waviness, aspect ratio, internal pores and graphene platelets (GPLs) on the vibrational behavior of functionally graded nanocomposite sandwich plates is investigated in this research work. The distributions of CNTs are considered functionally graded (FG) or uniform along the thickness of upper and bottom layers of the sandwich sectorial plates and their mechanical properties are estimated by an extended rule of mixture. In this study, the classical theory concerning the mechanical efficiency of a matrix embedding finite length fibers has been modified by introducing the tube-to-tube random contact, which explicitly accounts for the progressive reduction of the tubes' effective aspect ratio as the filler content increases. The core of structure is porous and the internal pores and graphene platelets (GPLs) are distributed in the matrix of core either uniformly or non-uniformly according to three different patterns. The elastic properties of the nanocomposite are obtained by employing Halpin-Tsai micromechanics model. A semi-analytic approach composed of 2D-Generalized Differential Quadrature Method (2D-GDQM) and series solution is adopted to solve the equations of motion. The fast rate of convergence and accuracy of the method are investigated through the different solved examples. Some new results for the natural frequencies of the plate are prepared, which include the effects of elastic coefficients of foundation, boundary conditions, material and geometrical parameters. The new results can be used as benchmark solutions for future researches.

  • The existence of underground cavity should be considered in the assessment of georisk such as ground subsidence. Even if the shear strength of the ground around the cavity is known, it is difficult to accurately analyze the safety around the cavity due to the uncertainties related to geometric conditions such as the cavity size. In this paper, stability chart representing dimensionless stability constants was proposed based on the ground strength and geometric conditions. Numerical analysis had been carried out accounting for the stability constants such as the ground strength, the adhesion and friction angles, and the size and depth of the underground cavity. The proposed charts can help estimating the stability of ground with underground circular cavity.
