  • This paper presents a parametric study on the free vibration analysis of a functionally graded material (FGM) circular plate with non-uniform thickness resting on a variable Pasternak elastic foundation. The mechanical properties of the material vary in the transverse direction through the thickness of the plate according to the power-law distribution to represent the constituent components. The equation of motion of the circular plate has been carried out based on the classical plate theory (CPT), and the differential quadrature method (DQM) is employed to solve the governing equations as a semi-analytical method. The grid points are chosen based on Chebyshev-Gauss-Lobatto distribution to achieve acceptable convergence and better accuracy. The influence of geometric parameters, variable elastic foundation, and functionally graded variation for clamped and simply supported boundary conditions on the first three natural frequencies are investigated. Comparisons of results with similar studies in the literature have been presented and two-dimensional mode shapes for particular plates have been plotted to illustrate the effect of variable thickness profile.

  • What is the relationship between city diplomacy and public diplomacy in the United States? Whilst this question is often raised among scholars and practitioners of public diplomacy, a concrete and systematic response to it seems difficult to locate. This paper addresses the question by relying on earlier research based on empirical analysis of data from semi-structured interviews with city officials with international purview in the United States as well as with current and former officials at the U.S. Department of State who have worked on topics related to city diplomacy. The research and analysis that informs this paper and the diagrams it offers are hinged on design principles and adopt an architecture studio style approach to data analysis. Further, multidimensional scaling and correspondence analysis are used to visualize the convergence and divergence between the functions of public diplomacy, as introduced by Nicholas Cull, and the functions of city diplomacy that this paper introduces. This is done to first, provide a framework for understanding the dynamics between city diplomacy and public diplomacy; and second, uncover the policy intervention space that could guide policies for making U.S. city diplomacy and public diplomacy more strategically aligned.

  • Because the hazardous working environments and high labor intensity of the root industry can potentially impact the health of workers, current regulations have focused on measuring and controlling environmental factors, on a semi-annual basis. However, there is a lack of quantitative criteria addressing workers' health conditions other than the physical work environment. This gap makes it challenging to prevent occupational diseases resulting from continuous exposure to harmful substances below regulatory thresholds. Therefore, this paper proposes a machine learning-based method for determining the peak level of risk in root industry work environments and enables real-time safety assessment in workplaces utilizing this approach.

  • As generative AI-based educational content and services targeting child users rapidly increase, the need for research related to children's perception of generative AI is increasing. Accordingly, this study sought to determine the type of generative AI recognized by children and whether cognitive, behavioral, and emotional properties were assigned to it. To understand this, we collected responses through workshop activities to create storybooks with children, semi-structured interviews, and drawing. As a result, children viewed generative AI as an artifact with a high cognitive level, but it was not a type of existing artifact.

  • Though lots of approaches to develop mobile apps are suggested up to now, developers have difficulties selecting a right one. This study compares native and cross-platform application development approaches, particularly focusing on the shift in preference from Java to Kotlin and the increasing use of Flutter. This research offers practical insights into factors influencing developers' choice of programming languages and frameworks in mobile application development by creating identical applications using Java, Kotlin, and Dart (Flutter). Furthermore, this study explores the best practices for development by examining the quality of code in 45 open-source GitHub repositories. The study evaluates LOC and code smells using semi-automated SonarQube assessments to determine the effects of selecting a specific language or framework on code maintainability and development efficiency. Preliminary findings show differences in the quality of the code produced by the two approaches, offering developers useful information on how to best optimize language and framework selection to reduce code smells and improve project maintainability.

  • High-Frequency Radar (HF-Radar) data of surface currents in Yeongil Bay (a semi-enclosed sea area of the East Sea) was used to investigate the between wind and horizontal surface currents The variation in horizontal and vertical flow of surface currents correlated closely to the water temperature time-series data of densely spaced (1 to 2 m) layers. During the time-series observation period, when the northeast wind prevailed over the entire Yeongil Bay area, a rapid rise in water temperature was recorded across all the layers. Moreover, currents parallel to the wind direction were clearly observed in low-frequency currents of the surface layer. Time-delayed correlation analysis between wind and surface current confirmed that if northeasterly wind blows in Yeongil Bay and continues unidirectionally, a southwestward surface current occured within a short period of time (1 to 2 hours). Convergence and divergence were calculated from the daily average values of low-frequency surface currents. A rapid rise in temperature occurred in the lower layers of water at the observation points, due to the convergence (downwelling) of the surface seawater (relatively high temperature water) associated with the northeasterly wind.

  • Recently, several researches have been studied on agricultural automation system according to convergence of IT technology with agriculture. An automatic control system of the growth environment in crops is one of the these researches. The controls of damages caused by diseases and insects pest in crops are mainly carried out by manual mode or semi-automatic mode because of farmer's concerns for poor efficiency. But, this situation needs to be improved because it occurs various problems, such as human exposure to toxic pesticides, environmental pollution and waste due to drug overuse. In order to solve these problems, we developed an automatic quantity control system which based on the amount of pesticides for area under cultivation. The amount of pesticides is calculated according to the manufacturer's instruction for pesticides. To verify the effectiveness of our developed automatic system, we also compared with the systems of manual mode and the semi-automatic mode. The experimental results of a pest control performance of an automatic quantity control system showed that automatic system can reduce overuse of drugs. These results suggested that it can be expected to replace the existing system, with equivalent effectiveness to the manual mode.

  • Radiation safety management is being considered very important since radioactive isotopes such as Co-60 and Ir-192 are widely used in fields such as non-destructive test(NDT). In this study, the applicability of Mercury(II) Iodide($HgI_2$) source for tracing system was evaluated. To make sure the unit cell sensor's reliability, we evaluated the electrical properties of the sensor made with $HgI_2$, and then position dependence of the sensor was analyzed and compared with the dose distribution from the planning system. As a result of the evaluation, high reliability of the sensor was shown through the linearity of R-sq > 0.990 and reproducibility of CV < 0.015. In the position dependence evaluation, the maximum value was measured at the isocenter of the sensor and gradually decreased according to the distance. However, the dose distribution data from the planning system was turned out that has difference with that of the sensor up to 30%. This seems to come from the difference between single-point measuring based planning system and area measuring based sensor.

  • This study aimed to provide basic data for the design and R&D of golf wear intended for 64 people in their 40s, 50s, and 60s by identifying the needs for golfers through a survey of golf wear purchasing conditions and preferences. The findings shows that purchases are made at permanent discount stores, and information about products are discovered through TV and Internet advertisements. Golf wear is purchased once or twice a year, with annual expenditures ranging from KRW 500,000 to less than 1 million, with single purchases ranging from KRW 200,000 to less than 500,000. When purchasing golf wear, design was considered first, with women preferring white garment, while men preferred black and gray ones. Men tended to prefer a PK collar button fastening style, while women preferred a knit style with a round neckline. Women preferred semi-fitted and fitted styles, while men preferred semi-fitted and loose-fitting styles, showing significant differences. When considering the production of golf wear, the younger the age of the consumer, the more the results indicated that the design needed to look younger, so it is the necessary to design golf wear that reflects the functional need of golfer while prioritizing designs for various ages.
