  • Purpose: This study aimed to identify whether there is a difference between an online-based community psychiatric nursing practice program with the ARCS model and a conventional community psychiatric nursing practice program in promoting nursing students' learning motivation, knowledge of community psychiatric nursing, communication skills, and learning self-efficacy. Methods: This study used a quasi-experimental design with a non-equivalent control group. The participants were 44 nursing students at three nursing colleges in Gyeongsangbuk-do. The experimental group was provided the online-based community psychiatric nursing practice program with ARCS model, while the control group was provided the conventional community psychiatric nursing practice program from July 9, to September 3, 2022. Both groups received practice training 8 hours a day, 5 days two weeks. The collected data were analyzed using the exact χ2, Mann-Whitney U-test, and Quade's two-way ANCOVA with the IBM SPSS Statistics 28.0 program. Results: The results of the comparison of an experimental group training with the online-based community psychiatric nursing practice program with ARCS model and a control group training with the conventional community psychiatric nursing practice program showed that, there was no statistically significant difference between the two groups in learning motivation knowledge of community psychiatric nursing, and learning self-efficacy. However, communication skills were statistically significantly higher in the experimental group (F=6.23, p=.017). Conclusion: The online-based community psychiatric nursing practice program with ARCS model can be used as a substitute learning to improve community psychiatric nursing capabilities in situations when clinical practice is suspended due to infectious diseases such as coronavirus disease 2019 or when is a shortage of community psychiatric nursing practice institutions.

  • This study investigated the effects of the intergenerational horticultural activity program on the improvement of emotion and self-esteem for the elderly and young children. When the pre- and post-treatments of the elderly was compared, both the control and treatment didn't show a significant difference in emotion. In self-esteem of the elderly the control didn't show a significant difference; on the contrary, treatment showed a highly significant difference ($p$<0.01). When a comparison was made on the pre- and post-treatment of young children, the control didn't show a significant difference in emotional intelligence; on the contrary, treatment showed a highly significant difference ($p$<0.001). In self-esteem of young children both the control and the treatment didn't show a significant difference. The results suggest that intergenerational horticultural activity program can improve young children's emotional intelligence and the elderly's self-esteem.

The survey was conducted among 100 diabetic patients, and the mean age of the subjects was 54.2 years old. Thirty three percent of the subjects were diagnosed diabetes less than 2 years ago. The average nutrition knowledge score about diabetes was 10.2 point, and percentages of correct answers were very high in 'foods rich in fiber' (97.0%), 'relevance of exercise and insulin' (97.0%), 'quantity of insulin injection' (91.0%), and 'diabetes menu' (91.0%). The sources of nutrition information were hospitals/healthcare centers (56.1%), TV/radio (19.2%), and internet (13.1%). Sixty nine percent of the subjects have experienced nutrition education on subjects as 'menu planning skills'(22.4%), 'selecting foods' (22.4%), 'relevance of blood glucose and eating foods' (21.5%) by personal counseling (54.4%). The total score of eating behavior was higher after diagnosed diabetes (35.3) than before (30.0) (p < 0.001). • Communication skills, such as writing documents and presenting technical details, are thought to be essential for modern engineers. Engineering students usually have less interest in writing and presentation than their humanities student counterparts and their concerns are different, too. So it is necessary to teach them in a different way which is suited to them. However, teaching such subjects has been a tricky problem for educators in terms of teaching methods. Also, to teach writing and presentation effectively for engineering students, collaboration between the faculties of different disciplines is necessary because each discipline has its own specific domain knowledge and approaches. But many unsolved problems exist with regard to how to deal with the technical and administrative aspects, and so on. This paper introduces one case in the education of technical writing and presentation, which is a collaboration between an engineering faculty and a faculty of literature. The literature faculty conducts basic education and training for writing skills, while the engineering faculty teaches the technical aspects of documentation, as well as presentation skills. The focus is placed on topics such as self-introduction, searching technical literature and materials, describing and explaining things and presentation practice, etc. During the class there is cooperation in each topic domain, while the faculties collaborate in teaching and evaluation.

  • Purpose: The COVID-19 pandemic has increased the importance of nurses' clinical performance, and accordingly, nursing educators have emphasized students' clinical practice and performance. This study developed a Clinical Practice Self-Efficacy Scale for nursing students and examined its psychometric properties. Methods: The authors reviewed instruments for selecting items for the scale in the areas of clinical skills, communication, infection control, safety, and nursing process. After preliminary items were selected, ten experts consisting of nursing professors and clinical nurses reviewed the items considering Korean clinical and educational situations. The data for the psychometric evaluation was collected from 257 nursing students in their 2nd, 3rd, and 4th years and then analyzed. Results: The confirmatory factor analysis showed that the goodness of fit of this scale with five factors represented by 40 items was appropriate. The significant positive correlations with general self-efficacy indicated sound construct validity. The senior nursing students showed higher scores than others, as we expected. Cronbach's alpha was .94. Conclusion: The Clinical Practice Self-Efficacy Scale is appropriate for measuring Korean nursing students' self-efficacy of clinical practice. It is expected to act as a good tool to measure the effects of clinical practice education.
