  • A Purge & Trap Concentrator was used to analyze various volatile organic compounds(VOCs) in wat-er. The object of this study was to observe the purge efficiency of 40 VOCs in water according to the change of parameters (purge time drypurge time sample temperature) and to determine the optimum condition for VOCs using the purge & Trap concentrator interfaced with a narrow capillary connected to a gas chromatography/mass spectrometry. The optimum condition of purge and trap is as follows: purge time at 11min drypurge time at 5min sample temperature at 6$0^{\circ}C$ at constant purge flow (40mol/min) constant desorption flow(20ml/min) desorption temperature(2$25^{\circ}C$) and desorption time (1min) At this analytical condition the detection limits of VOCs was in the range of 0.1~0.5$\mu$g/ml and the purge efficiency of each compound was over 70%.

  • The prepartion of various metal oxide nanostructures via hydrothermal method, hydrolysis, thermal evaporation and electrospinning and their applications to chemoresistive sensors have been investigated. Hierarchical and hollow nanostructures prepared by hydrothermal method and hydrolysis showed the high response and fast responding kinetics on account of their high gas accessibility. Thermal evaporation and electrospinning provide the facile routes to prepare catalyst-loaded oxide nanowires and nanofibers, respectively. The loading of noble metal and metal oxide catalyst were effective to achieve rapid response/recovery and selective gas detection.

  • Analytical method of 4-nitrotoluene (4-NT) in water was developed by 9as chromatography/mass selective detector/selected ion monitoring (GC/MSD/SIM). 4-NT was extracted with diethyl ether. Organic layer was washed with 5 % sodium chloride solution. The influence of solvent and evaporation condition on extraction of 4-NT were examined. The retention time of 4-NT peak was 7.72 min. Coefficient of variation (CV) of 4-NT (ng) within day and day-to-day was ranged from 7.0 to 14.6% and from 7.7 to 20.8%, respectively. Recovery of 4-NT was ranged from 84 to 109%, and detection limit of 4-H was lese than 1 ng/㎖.

  • The symbol error probability of M-ary PSK (MPSK) and QAM (MQAM) systems using the branch with the largest signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) at the output of L-branch selection combining (SC) in frequency-nonselective slow Nakagami fading channels with an additive white Gaussian noise (AWGN) is derived theoretically For integer values of the Nakagami fading parameter m, the general formula for evaluating symbol error rate (SER) of MPSK signals in the independent branch diversity system comprises numerical analyses with the integral-form expressions. An exact closed-form SER performance of MQAM signals under the effect of SC diversity via numerical integration is presented. These performance evaluations allow designers to determine M-ary modulation methods for Nakagami fading channels.

  • To increase detection sensitivity for multi-DDT residues (o,p-/p,p-DDT, o,p-/p,p-DDE, o,o-/o,p-DDD) analysis, a highly selective sample clean-up method was introduced prior to GC/MS analysis using immunoaffinity column. The immunoaffinity matrix was prepared by coupling IgG fraction of DDT antiserum to cyanogens bromide activated Sepharose 4B. Three DDT antisera (DDA-1, DDHP-2, DDCP-3) were test for affinity column ligand that obtained by imunizing respective DDT immunogen to rabbits, and IgG was purified using protein A affinity purification. • For the in-situ health monitoring of critical members in civil infra-structures, ultrasonic guided Lamb waves-based non-destructive evaluation (NDE) is very suitable. However, a chief drawback of the Lamb wave techniques is that multiple modes exist at all frequencies and the modes are generally dispersive, which means that the received signals may be very complicated. To overcome these complications, selective transmitting and receiving of a single A/sub 0/ mode within a frequency range can be adopted. Furthermore, a wavelet technique can be utilized to decompose the Lamb wave response into wavelet coefficients as a tool for signal processing. The changes in the Lamb waves interacting with damages in the steel plates are successfully characterized by this wavelet technique, through the amplitude change of the wavelet coefficients. In this paper, the feasibility of detecting a line crack on the surface of a steel plate and loosened bolts in a joint steel specimen using the Lamb waves and the wavelet technique is investigated.

  • The present study was carried out to investigate the incidence of Campylobacter spp. from the chicken carcasses in slaughterhouse. A total of 9 strains were primarily isolated from enrichment culture and selective culture of the sample with candle and microaerophilic chamber method. Nine of Gram-negative, catalase-positive and oxidase-positive strains were further isolated by the determination of biochemical characteristics and finally identified as Campylobacter jejuni with HIP 400F and HIP l134R primers. Therefore, this PCR method proved to be useful as a routine diagnostic test for the Campylobacter detection and confirmation of C. jejuni and C. coli in naturally contaminated poultry samples.

  • When the M-ary signal experiences the Rayleigh fading, the diversity schemes can reduce the effect of fading since the probability that all the signals components will fade simultaneously is reduced considerably. The symbol error probabilities for various M-ary signals, such as MDPSK(M-ary DPSK) and MPSK(M-ary PSK), are mathematically derived for the Selection Combining 2(SC-2) and Selection Combining 3(SC-3) demodulation system which requires a less complex receiver than maximum ratio combining(MRC). The propagation model used in this paper is the frequency-nonselective slow Rayleigh fading channel corrupted by the additive white gaussian noise(AWGN). The numerical results presented in this paper are expected to provide information for the design of radio system using M-ary modulation method for above mentioned channel environment.

  • Recently, Alzheimer's Disease (AD) is one of the biggest threats to healthy society. Current medical AD diagnosis depends on interviews and the molecular neuroimaging. There is no cure for the disease, which worsens as it progresses, and eventually leads to death. Amyloid ${\beta}$ and Tau-meditated neuronal injury and dysfunction are candidates of biomarker for AD diagnosis using blood. For highly sensitive and selective biosensor platform, interdigitated microelectrodes (IMEs) sensor was prepared with micro fabrication process and Amyloid ${\beta}$ antibody. Amyloid ${\beta}$ concentration of 1, 10, 100, and 1000 pg/mL was injected in reaction chamber with IME sensors, impedance and conductance of IMEs changed respectively. These results show our newly proposed IMEs sensor can be usefully utilized for AD early diagnosis.

  • $^{19}$ F imaging of mice was carried out. For $^{19}$ F imaging, 5-flouro-uracil (5-FU) was injected into a mouse and in vivo detection of the catabolism of 5-FU to a-fluoro-P-alanine (FBAL) was carried out. The chemical shift selective (CHESS) imaging technique was employed. The 19F spectra and images give temporal and spatial information of the metabolism for 5-FU in mice.
