  • The selective removal of cesium by ammonium molybdophosphate (AMP) was studied in order to reduce an interference by high radioactivity of cesium on the determination of low radioactive elements in leachate of spent fuel. The removal of Cs, U, Ce, La, Co Ca, Na Sr and K was investigated for the leachate and the bentonite in contact with a spent fuel. More than 90% of cesium was removed by AMP and Ca, Na, Co and Sr was remained in 0.1 M $HNO_3$. However, three valence elements such as La and Ce were also removed by AMP. Though a little of potassium of the bentonite components was adsorbed on AMP, the potassium in the bentonite solution diluted to its concentration in a real sample would not affect the capacity of AMP greatly. From another experiment for the separation of strontium as a leaching indicator of spent fuel, the recovery of strontium in 8.0 M $HNO_3$ solution by using Sr-resin (Eichrom, P/N SR-B50-A) was more than 95% by eluting with 0.05 M $HNO_3$.

  • Algal biomass cultivated by wastewater is potentially useful resource for biodiesel production. However, little is known about algal nutrient metabolism and microbial interaction with bacteria under real municipal wastewater condition. In this work, we characterized nitrogen and phosphorus removals of municipal wastewater by a representative wastewater-growing algal population. Ankistrodesmus gracilis SAG 278-2, and analyzed its ecological interaction with wastewater bacterial communities. Compared to wastewater sludge itself, algal-bacterial co-culture improved nutrient removal. According to bacterial community analysis with 16S rRNA genes, a selective and dominant growth of a Unclassified Alcaligenaceae population resulted from algal growth in the algal-bacterial co-culture. The selectively stimulated bacterial population is phylogenetically close to Alcaligenes faecalis subsp. 5659-H, which is known to be co-present interact with algae in aquatic environment. These findings suggest that algal growth/metabolism may have effects on selection of a specific bacterial population in algal-bacterial co-cultures that can efficiently remove nutrients from municipal wastewater.

  • The concentration of silica is required to meet a certain level because silica affects fuel and materials integrity by forming a zeolite layer on fuel cladding surfaces. When the established Feed and Bleed method is employed, nuclear waste increase and the corresponding amount of boric acid is constantly consumed. This study concentrates on minimizing the amount of nuclear waste and consumption of boric acid. Using five different membranes, operating conditions such as temperatur, feed water flow rate, boric acid recovery and silica removal rate were examined. A silica-selective removal system was designed based on the above optimization procedures. Three-stage system was designed with two characteristically different membranes so that it could correspond with the different situation easily. Compared to the pevious results of the Feed and Bleed method, the current method showed that the amount of nuclear waste was reduced to 7%, and the consumption of boric acid to 15.7%.

  • The use of membranes for MBRWG (Membrane Bioreactor for Waste Gas) treatment can provide highly selective separation of a waste gas stream followed by effective biological removal. MBRWG have several potential advantages, among which the most distinctive one is separation of gas and liquid phases at each side of membrane potentially allowing the optimal biomass control toward effective biodegradation of target gases as well as biofilm activation. This advantage becomes especially favorable for removal of hydrophobic toxic gases, such as xylene, by MBRWG systems, because the mass transfer, the toxicity, and thereby the biodegradation of hydrophobic gas treatment requires sensitive handling of liquid stream and water control near biofilm. Among various membranes for MBRWG treatment, PDMS-hollow fiber membranes provide the high gas mass transfer. Despite lower specific surface areas, capillary type membranes are also applied current MBRWG studies. In addition to the main application of membranes as biofilm supporter in MBRWG systems, there can be another application of membranes in a posterior process for removal of residual gases or dusts emitted from conventional biological waste gas treatment processes.

  • Arsenic is a highly toxic element, and its contamination is widespread around the world. The natural materials with high selectivity and efficiency toward pollutants are important in wastewater treatment technology. In this study, the mesoporous synthetic hectorite was synthesized by facile hydrothermal crystallization of gels comprising silica, magnesium hydroxide, and lithium fluoride. Additionally, the naturally available clay was modified using zirconium at room temperature. Both synthetic and modified natural clays were employed in the removal of arsenate from aquatic environments. The materials were fully characterized by scanning electron microscope (SEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), and Fourier transform-infrared (FT-IR) analyses. The synthesized materials were used to remove arsenic (V) under varied physicochemical conditions. Both materials, i.e., Zr-bentonite and Zr-hectorite, showed high percentage removal of arsenic (V) at lower pH, and the efficiency decreased in an alkaline medium. The equilibrium-state sorption data agrees well with the Langmuir and Freundlich adsorption isotherms, and the maximum sorption capacity is found to be 4.608 and 2.207 mg/g for Zr-bentonite and Zr-hectorite, respectively. The kinetic data fits well with the pseudo-second order kinetic model. Furthermore, the effect of the background electrolytes study indicated that arsenic (V) is specifically sorbed at the surface of these two nanocomposites. This study demonstrated that zirconium intercalated synthetic hectorite as well as zirconium modified natural clays are effective and efficient materials for the selective removal of arsenic (V) from aqueous medium.

  • Certain oral procedures require a sedated patient who is responsive to allow for the mouth opening and position change. Dexmedetomidine is a relatively selective alpha2-adrenoceptor agonist with sedative, analgesic, amnestic, and anesthetic-sparing effects. Large dose dexmedetomidine is suitable as a single agent for sedation and anxiolysis for plate removal in a patient with bilateral sagittal split osteotomy and Lefort 1 osteotomy with genioplasty.

  • This study showed that on-site ferrate(VI) solution was synthesized by wet oxidation method and applied aqueous 2,4-dichlorophenol(DCP) solution to evaluate the degradation efficiency. On-site ferrate(VI) solution was synthesized by putting $FeCl_3{\cdot}6H_2O$ in the strong alkali solution with NaClO and NaOH and applied DCP solution directly. DCP solution was extracted by the liquid-liquid method and analyzed by GC-ECD. The factors such as pH, DCP initial concentration, injected ferrate(VI) dosage, temperature were investigated. The optimum pH and temperature conditions of DCP degradation were obtained in neutral condition and $35^{\circ}C$. And the experimental results showed that DCP removal efficiency also increased with the decrease of DCP initial condition and the injected ferrate(VI) dosage.

  • The design and preparation of novel dye rotaxanes have gained much interest recently, since such structure usually exhibits peculiar spectral and optical changes. In spite of the promising results to date, increasing pressure remains to develop novel supramolecular structures based on stimuli-responsive systems. This presentation covers the study of inclusion complexes of cyclodextrins and various chromophores, with an emphasis on our most recent outcome of anisotropic hydrogel. In this system, physical gelation prepared from simple mixture of CD and a azo dye is completed through specific host-guest interaction. The obtained hydrogel exhibits respective morphological transitions based on supramolecular assembly and dissociation, leading to either precipitation or a sol-to-gel transition. It can identify different classes of metal ions, and, among them, naked-eye differentiation of lead ion is possible due to the coordination-induced unthreading of dye molecules. Accompanying structural changes were verified by numerous characterization techniques, including 2D-ROESY, HR-MAS, UV-Visible absorption, small-angle X-ray scattering, and induced circular dichroism measurements. Such properties discussed here will find useful in analytical applications, such as metal ion sensing and removal applications.

  • The selective chemical degradation or etching of PET based on an organic amine attack on the ester group. The techniques involves the chemical removal of loss ordered amorphous regions or crystalline regions, which are essentially unaffected by the degradative etchant. Thus, most of previous studies have limited to consideration which has been given to structural changes taking place. Therefore, this study was carried out to investigate surface characterization, dyeing properties of PET film hydrazinolyzed with hydrazine hydrate in methanol. PET film was treated with 30% hydrazine hydrate in methanol at $30^\circ{C}$ for various time intervals. The total surface tension of treated PET increased, the dispersion force decreased and the hydrogen bonding force increased. The equilibrium dye adsorption, dyeing rate and apparent diffusion coefficient of acid dyes increased, and the apparent activation energies of diffusion decreased.

  • Recently, According to increasing interest to original sound Karaoke instrument, MIDI type karaoke manufacturer attempt to make more cheap method instead of original recoding method. Separating technique for singing voice from music accompaniment is very useful in such equipment. We propose a system to separate singing voice from music accompaniment for stereo recordings. Our system consists of three stages. The first stage is a spectral change detector. The second stage classifies an input into vocal and non vocal portions by using GMM classifier. The last stage is a selective frequency separation stage. The results of removed by listening test from the results for computer based extraction simulation, spectrogram results show separation task successfully. Listening test with extracted MR from proposed system show vocal separating and removal task successfully.
