퇴적물입도곡선의 정규성분으로의 분해:제주해협의 예 (Decomposition of Sediment size Curves into Log-Normal components: An Example from Cheju Strait Continental shelf)

  • 입도분포의 특징분석에 종래의 조직특성치 대신 수치해석적인 분해법의 적용을 시 도하였다. 그 결과 이 방법이 제주해협의 대륙붕 표층퇴적물과 같은 복모드형 입 도분포의 분석에 매우 유용함이 입증 되었다. 복모드형 입도분포 퇴적물은 제주해협 대륙붕에서는 86%의 높은 비율을 점한다. 종래의 입도특성치(평균, 표준편차, 왜도, 첨도)는 복모드형 입도분포에 대해서는 왜곡된 값을 보인다. 따라서 입도분포의 모드 에 대체로 대응되는 정규성분으로 분해해서 각 정규성분의 특성치를 해석함으로써 입 도특성치에서와 같은 특징의 누락이나 왜곡을 피할 수 있다. 제주해협 대륙붕의 167개 퇴적물 입도분포곡선을 비선형 최소자승법을 사용하여 정규성분으로 분해해서 총 387 개의 정규성분을 얻었다. 정규성분의 평균은 1-3 phi 8-9 phi에 집중되는 것이 많다. 이중 조립질 정규성분의 평균치는 복잡하고 특징적인 지리적 분포를 보인다. 이러한 분포는 퇴적물 총층후 분포와 매우 유사하며 해저면의 지질과 지형을 면밀하게 반영하 고 있다. 해저면을 형성하는 퇴적층은 플라이스토세 후기의 해침성 모래층이며 해저지 형은 플라이스토세말 빙하기 저해수면시기의 침식에 의해 형성된 것으로 보인다.

입도곡선의 정규성분 분해에 의한 대한해협의 대륙붕 퇴적물 연구 (A Study on the Shelf Sediments from Korea Strait through Decomposition of Size Curves into Normal Components)

  • A numerical method based on genetic algorithms was introduced to characterize the grain-size distribution more effectively. This technique was proved significant particularly for multimodal size distributions, as was verified for samples from Korea Strait continental shelf. Sediment samples collected from the Korea Strait continental shelf revealed that $96\%$ of the grain-size distributions were multimodal. Therefore, the use of grain-size parameters was not the ideal method. As an alternative method, the decomposition of sue curves into elementary normal component curves was used. Means and standard deviations of 593 decomposed normal components were calculated by a numerical method from 268 size curves of Korea Strait sediments. The mean values of decomposed normal components showed peaks at $1\~3\phi\;and\;7\~9\phi$ size classes. The plot of mean and standard deviation values of the coarse fraction normal components on the map showed a characteristic areal distribution. The characteristic distribution was found to derive from underlying Pleistocene sediment on the basis of sea bottom geologic distribution of the area. The method of decomposition into normal components was found to be more effective than the analysis using traditional grain-size parameters in investigation of multimodal size distribution of Korea Strait shelf sediment.

심층 신경망 기법을 통한 부유사 이동 모델링 (Modeling of Suspended Sediment Transport Using Deep Neural Networks)

  • Land reclamation, coastal construction, coastline extension and port construction, all of which involve dredging, are increasingly required to meet the growing economic and societal demands in the coastal zone. During the land reclamation, a portion of landfills are lost from the desired location due to a variety of causes, and therefore prediction of sediment transport is very important for economical and efficient land reclamation management. In this study, laboratory disposal tests were performed using an open channel, and suspended sediment transport was analyzed according to flow velocity and grain size. The relationships between the average and standard deviation of the deposition distance and the flow velocity were almost linear, and the relationships between the average and standard deviation of deposition distance and the grain size were found to have high non-linearity in the form of power law. The deposition distribution of sediments was demonstrated to have log-normal distributions regardless of the flow velocity. Based on the experimental results, modeling of suspended sediment transport was performed using deep neural network, one of deep learning techniques, and the deposition distribution was reproduced through log-normal distribution.

목포-해남 연안 조간대 퇴적물중 유기물 및 미량금속 분포 특성 (Distributions of Organic Matter and Trace Metals in Intertidal Surface Sediment from the Mokpo-Haenam Coast)

  • To evaluate the organic matter and trace metal pollution in intertidal sediment of the coastal zone, various geochemical parameters (grain size, ignition loss [IL], chemical oxygen demand [COD], acid volatile sulfide [AVS], and metals [Al, Fe, Cu, Pb, Zn, Cd, Cr, Mn, Hg, and As]) were measured for the intertidal surface sediment of the mainland and islands between Mokpo and Haenam in the southwestern coast of Korea. The surface sediments consist mainly of finer sediments, such as mud and silt. The concentrations of IL, COD, and trace metals in intertidal sediment were relatively high in the shoreline of the mainland than in that of islands and those in some stations exceeded the sediment quality guidelines (SQGs). Moreover, the concentrations of IL, COD, and trace metals (except As) in sediment showed relatively good positive correlations with mean grain size, indicating that the concentrations of organic matter and trace metals in intertidal sediment of the study region are dependent on grain size of sediment. Pollution evaluation for trace metals using geochemical assessment techniques, such as enrichment factor, geoaccumulation index, and SQGs, suggested that the intertidal sediments in the study region show light pollution with Cr and moderate pollution with As. More extensive interdisciplinary studies are required to determine the potential causes of As pollution in intertidal sediment.

  • This paper presents a geostatistical methodology to model local uncertainty in spatial estimation of sediment grain size with high-resolution remote sensing imagery. Within a multi-Gaussian framework, the IKONOS imagery is used as local means both to estimate the grain size values and to model local uncertainty at unsample locations. A conditional cumulative distribution function (ccdf) at any locations is defined by mean and variance values which can be estimated by multi-Gaussian kriging with local means. Two ccdf statistics including condition variance and interquartile range are used here as measures of local uncertainty and are compared through a cross validation analysis. In addition to local uncertainty measures, the probabilities of not exceeding or exceeding any grain size value at any locations are retrieved and mapped from the local ccdf models. A case study of Baramarae beach, Korea is carried out to illustrate the potential of geostatistical uncertainty modeling.

  • 이 논문에서는 퇴적물 입도분포지도 사례 연구를 통해 원격탐사 자료를 부가자료로 이용하는 경우 크리깅 기법이 원격탐사 자료와의 통합과 더불어, 원격탐사 자료의 영향을 분석할 수 있는 불확실성 모델링에 효율적으로 이용될 수 있음을 예시하고자 하였다. 안면도 동쪽 해안과 천수만 연안 지역에서 현장 조사 자료와 입도와 연관성이 높은 Landsat TM 자료의 반사도를 부가 자료로 이용하여 입도 분포도를 작성하였다. 사례 연구 결과, 조건부 분산의 분석을 통해, 샘플링 되지 않은 지역에서의 불확실성은 원격탐사 자료를 부가 자료로 이용함으로써 현저하게 줄어듦을 확인할 수 있었다. 이러한 크리깅 기반 불확실성 모델링 방법론은 입도 분포도 작성뿐만 아니라, 부가 자료의 이용이 가능한 다른 분야에서의 지표환경 주제도 작성에 유용하게 사용될 수 있을 것으로 기대된다.

자연하천에서 하도의 물리적 특성과 하상재료의 상관관계분석 (Analysis of Correlation on Physical Characteristics and Bed Materials in Natural Rivers)

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze the correlation between physical stream characteristics and bed materials in natural rivers. Accordingly, four natural rivers were selected reference streams, they were Nam river, Sumjin River, Naesung River and Han River. Grain size distributions of bed materials were gravels, cobbles and boulders in Han river and Nam river, were sand, gravels, cobbles and boulders in Sumjin river and were sand in Naesung river. Four reference streams were divided into each two reference reaches (straight and bend) by plan and profile characteristics of naturally meandering stream. Therefore various reference reaches were chosen in the aspect of physical stream characteristics and grain size distributions. The results investigated and analyzed are as follows. The streams that grain sizes distributions of river bed materials were coarse were stable because they had variety of bed slope without sediment deposition, and then the riffles frequency and the physical characteristics were various. Also, velocitydepth regime were various in four kinds, and the response parts for water level change were small, so that channel flow status were stable and excellent condition. On the other hand, sand river that grain sizes distributions of river bed materials were fine had not the variety of parameters as velocity-depth regimes, sediment deposition, channel flow status and riffles frequency, so that the physical stream characteristics were not various.

점착성 퇴적물의 염분과 퇴적물농도에 따른 플럭 특성: 플럭카메라를 이용한 실험연구 (Floc Property of Yeongsan Cohesive Bed Sediment with Respect to Salinity and Sediment Concentration)

  • 점착성 퇴적물이 다른 광물입자 혹은 유기물과 결합하여 형성되는 플럭(floc)을 현장에서 관측하기 위한 플럭카메라 시스템을 제작하였다. 본 연구의 목적은 실험실에서 플럭카메라 시스템을 검증하고 영산강 점착성 해저 퇴적물의 플럭 특성을 규명하는 데 있다. 플럭카메라 시스템의 검증은 $88-125{\mu}m$$63-88{\mu}m$의 체에 걸러진 모래를 사용하였다. 플럭카메라 영상을 통해 분석한 평균입경은 각각 102와 $65.2{\mu}m$고, 침강속도는 각각 6.7과 5.9 mm/s이다. 카메라 심도에서 벗어난 입자는 실제 크기보다 크거나 작게 측정이 되는 현상으로 인해 체의 범위를 벗어난 입자가 관측되지만, 입경과 침강속도의 평균값에 대한 95% 신뢰수준 오차가 체의 범위에 속하므로 플럭카메라를 이용한 분석을 신뢰할 수 있었다. 영산강 하구의 해저 표층 퇴적물을 0 psu의 증류수에 0.1 g/L 퇴적물 농도로 관측한 평균 입경은 약 $40.6{\pm}0.66{\mu}m$, 침강속도는 1.4 mm/s 프랙탈 차원은 2.86이었다. 추가적으로 10과 34 psu의 염분과 0.1 및 0.3 g/L의 퇴적물 농도에서 관측한 평균입경과 침강속도는 서로 유사했고, 그 값들은 오차범위 내에 존재한다. 플럭카메라 관측을 통해서 얻은 플럭의 빠른 침강속도와 프랙탈 차원은 유기물 함량이 상대적으로 적은 표층퇴적물의 특성을 반영한다. 또한, 염분과 퇴적물 농도를 변화시켰음에도 플럭의 입경 변화가 거의 없는 것은 플럭을 형성에 충분한 난류 강도가 주어지지 못했기 때문이라고 판단된다. 향후에는 염분, 퇴적물 농도 및 외력의 변화에 따른 플럭의 특성을 밝히는 연구가 필요하다.

Effect of light and sediment grain size on the vertical migration of benthic diatoms

  • Using chlorophyll fluorescence, the vertical migration of benthic diatoms responding to light intensity and affected by sediment grain size was studied. Minimal fluorescence ($F_o$) of surface sediment was measured by imaging pulse amplitude modulated (Imaging-PAM) fluorometer, and used to monitor diatom biomass variation in surface sediments. The test diatoms, Amphora coffeaeformis (C. Agardh) K$\ddot{u}$tzing and Cylindrotheca closterium (Ehrenberg) Reimann & Lewin, migrated to the sediment surface under irradiance from 50 to 500 ${\mu}mol$ photons $m^{-2}s^{-1}$. However, the diatoms exhibited no evident increase of surface biomass under dark conditions, and even showed slightly decrease of surface biomass under irradiances over 1,000 ${\mu}mol$ photons $m^{-2}s^{-1}$. The light intensity inducing the maximum surface migration of A. coffeaeformis was 100 ${\mu}mol$ photons $m^{-2}s^{-1}$, while the light intensity producing the same effect for C. closterium was 250 ${\mu}mol$ photons $m^{-2}s^{-1}$. C. closterium showed higher motility than A. coffeaeformis. Faster diatom surfacing was observed in larger grain size sediments (125-335 ${\mu}m$) than smaller ones (63-125 ${\mu}m$). This study confirmed the significant influence of light as a main triggering factor behind migration, indicated the distinct effect of different sediment grain size, and highlighted the species-specific migratory ability.

SED2D모형을 이용한 저수지 퇴사거동 모의-모의시간간격의 민감도를 중심으로 (Simulation of Sediment Deposition Behavior in a Reservoir using a SED2D model: Focusing on Sensitivity of Simulation Time Step)

  • In this study, the following conclusions were obtained from an investigation of the effect of the simulation time step on the simulation results of the two-dimensional, vertically averaged sediment transport model SED2D and an analysis of the deposited sediment distribution in suspended sediments of reservoirs according to grain size. The simulation time step has a significant effect on the deposited sediment distribution in a reservoir. In particular, if the simulation time step is set to be excessively large, physically invalid results are obtained. Additionally, in order to determine an appropriate simulation time step for SED2D, the selection of a simulation time step that will allow the analysis of the suspended sediment concentration profile at the main points of the simulation domain is necessary. The deposited sediment distribution in a reservoir according to grain size, including suspended sediments of clay, silt, and sand, was successfully simulated. Such information will prove valuable in application to the establishment of efficient management and reduction measures of reservoir sediment deposits.
