  • This paper is concerned with the interval oscillation of the second order nonlinear ordinary differential equation (r(t)|y'(t)|$^{{\alpha}-1}$ y'(t))'+p(t)|y'(t)|$^{{\alpha}-1}$ y'(t)+q(t)f(y(t))g(y'(t))=0. By constructing ageneralized Riccati transformation and using the method of averaging techniques, we establish some interval oscillation criteria when f(y) is not differetiable but satisfies the condition $\frac{f(y)}{|y|^{{\alpha}-1}y}$ ${\geq}{\mu}_0$ > 0 for $y{\neq}0$.

  • This paper presents an optimal robust LQ-PID controller design method for a second order system with time-delay to meet design specifications. By LQR formulation of the second order system with time-delay, tuning parameters of PID controller are related by the weighting factors Q and R of cost function. The selection of the weighting factors Q and R are chosen to satisfy such the design specifications as overshoot and settling time.

  • In this paper, we consider the second order probability matching criterion for the ratio of the variance components under the one-way random effect model. It turns out that among all of the reference priors given in Ye(1994), the only one reference prior satisfies the second order matching criterion. Similar results are also obtained for the intraclass correlation as well.

  • We consider the boundary value problem with a Dirichlet condition for a second order linear uniformly elliptic operator in a non-divergence form. We study some properties of a barrier at infinity which was introduced by Meyers and Serrin to investigate a solution in an exterior domains. Also, we construct a modified barrier for more general domain than an exterior domain.

  • In this paper a class of multifactor designs for estimating the slope of second order response surface regression models with correlated errors is considered. General conditions for second order slope rotatability over all directions and also with respect to the maximum directional variance in case of k=2 have been derived assuming errors have a general correlated error structure. And we consider the measures for evaluating slope rotatability with correlated errors similar to in case of uncorrelated error structures.

  • In Response Surface Methodology (RSM), rotatability is a natural and highly desirable property. For second order general correlated regression model, the concept of robust rotatability was introduced by Das (1997). In this paper a new measure of robust rotatability for second order response surface designs with correlated errors is developed and illustrated with an example. A comparison is made between the newly developed measure with the previously suggested measure by Das (1999).

  • New sufficient conditions for the existence of at least one solution of Neumann type boundary value problems for second order nonlinear differential equations $$\array{\{{p(t)\phi(x'(t)))'=f(t,x(t),\;x(\tau_1(t)),\;{\cdots},\;x(\tau_m(t))),\;t\in[0,T],\\x'(0)=0,\;x'(T)=0,}\,}$$, are established.

  • This study aims to investigate theoretically and experimentally second-order water level variation. The simple method obtaining second-order water surface elevation and mean water level applicable to both progressive and diffraction wave, mean water level set-down, as well as set-up occurs and it is shown to be in good agreement with the experimental results.

  • In this paper, we will establish some new oscillation criteria for the second-order half-linear delay difference equation $${\Delta}(Pn ({\Delta}Xn)^{\gamma})+q_nx_\array{{\gamma}\\n-{\sigma}}=0,\;n{\geq}n_0$$, where ${\gamma}>0$ is a quotient of odd positive integers. Our results in this paper are sharp and improve some of the well known oscillation results in the literature. Some examples are considered to illustrate our main results.
