  • Effects of GBF (gas bubbling filtration) treatment conditions and scrap ratio on the electric conductivity of a commercial pure aluminum for diecasting were investigated using by specific gravity and electrical conductivity measurement system, hydrogen gas analyzer, XRD, and EDS. Electrical conductivities of specimen mixed Al scrap ratio until 60% from 0% were decreased with increasing the precipitates amount and size of AlFeSi ternary intermetallic compound on the grain boundary as well as amount of porosity in the grain. On the other hand, electrical conductivities was reincreased gradually in spite of scrap ratio increase from 80% to 100%. Size of AlFeSi compound formed on the grain boundary were coarsened with the increament of scrap ratios untill 80% and GBF treatment time simultaneously.

  • In this study, the effect of scrap ratio on the mechanical properties of Zr alloys was studied. Oxygen content in the ingot cake increased rapidly with increasing fraction of scrap, which can be attributed to the surface oxide of scrap including small pieces of turning, chips, etc. Iron content did not increase much with the increasing addition of scrap, suggesting scrap materials was well reserved in the iron-free container. As-cast structure of Zr alloy with the scrap:sponge ratio displayed plate/or needle ${\alpha}$ phase and no appreciable change of the cast structure was observed with change of scrap fraction. The strength increases with increasing fraction of scrap, which can be attributed to the increase of oxygen content. The ductility decreased slightly with increase of scrap fraction. Dislocation-oxygen interaction is known to increase the strength at the expense of ductility. Ingot cake with intentionally added $Fe_2O_3$ exhibited the drastic decrease of the formability, even exhibited the brittle fracture behavior during rolling. The oxidation resistance, however, increased with the increase of scrap fraction because of high oxygen content, which may prevent more penetration and diffusion of oxygen into matrix.

  • In Korea, deap-sea fishing industry plays an important role in a food industry. However, it is in a difficult situation because of the more competitive business environment. Therefore, there is a need to restructure the deap-sea fishing industry by scraping superannuated ships. This paper is designed to present scrap programs for deap-sea fishing industry of Korea. We performed ratio analysis to evaluate financial performance of fishing companies and then applied a mixed integer programming (MIP) model to identify optimal schedule for scraping. The results of the financial ratio analysis indicates that it is legible to provide governmental aid to Atlantic trawl, Northern Pacific trawl, and Indian ocean trawl with minimum required rate of return (MRR) of 3%, and the Atlantic strip fishing industry is qualified to receive the governmental aid with MRR value of 5%. Furthermore, by applying the MIP model to develop scrap planning, we demonstrate how our model can be used to restructure the deap-sea fishing industry of Korea.

  • The effect of an aluminum scrap addition ratio on the tensile and solidification cracking properties of the AC4A aluminum alloy in the as-cast state and heat-treated state were investigated in this study. Generally, the expected problem of using scrap in aluminum casting is an increase of hydrogen and Fe element inside the aluminum melt. Another issue is an oxide film which has a weak interface with the molten aluminum and acts as potent nucleation sites for internal porosity and crack initiation. Solidification cracking is one of the critical defects that must be resolved to produce high quality castings. A conventional evaluation method for solidification cracking is a relative and qualitative analysis method which does not provide quantitative data on the thermal stress in the solidification process. Therefore, a newly designed solidification cracking test apparatus was used in this study, and the device can provide quantitative data. As a result, after conducting experiments with different scrap addition ratios (0%, 20%, 35%, 50%), the tensile strengths and elongations in the as-cast state were 214, 187.7, 182.1 and 170.4MPa and 4.6%, 3.4%, 3.1% and 2.3%, respectively. In the case of the T6 heat-treated state, the tensile strengths and elongations were 314.9, 294.6, 293.1 and 271.1MPa and 5.4%, 4.6%, 3.8% and 3.1%, respectively. The strength of the solidification cracking was 3.1, 2.4, 2.2and 1.6MPa as the scrap addition ratio increases.

  • This study focuses on the fabrication of a WC/Co composite powder from the oxide of WC/Co hardmetal scrap using solid carbon in a hydrogen gas atmosphere for the recycling of WC/Co hardmetal. Mixed powders are manufactured by mechanically milling the oxide powder of WC-13 wt% Co hardmetal scrap and carbon black with varying powder/ball weight ratios. The oxide powder of WC-13 wt% Co hardmetal scrap consists of $WO_3$ and $CoWO_4$. The mixed powder mechanically milled at a lower powder/ball weight ratio (high mechanical milling energy) has a more rapid carbothermal reduction reaction in the formation of WC and Co phases compared with that mechanically milled at a higher powder/ball weight ratio (lower mechanical milling energy). The WC/Co composite powder is fabricated at $900^{\circ}C$ for 6 h from the oxide of WC/Co hardmetal scrap using solid carbon in a hydrogen gas atmosphere. The fabricated WC/Co composite powder has a particle size of approximately $0.25-0.5{\mu}m$.

  • This study investigates the effect of flux type and mixing ratio on efficiency in aluminum can scrap recycling using induction furnace. The removal of surface coating layer of aluminum can scrap was possible through heat treatment at about 500 ℃ for about 30 min. The temperature for the melting process was set to be slightly above the melting temperature of the aluminium can scrap. The molten metal treatment was performed with different types of flux and mixing ratio. As a result, The optimum efficiency of Al recovery ratio was revealed when the process was performed with at least 3 wt.% of the flux (Salt and MgCl2 mixture of ratio 70:30) at 750 ℃. The mechanical property of the recovered Al alloy showed that the tensile strength is about 249 MPa and elongation is about 14 %. This result was found to be similar to the mechanical property of the virgin Al 5083 alloy.

  • The effect of additives on the castability of the AC2BS aluminum alloy, which contains 35% recycled scrap, was investigated. For the wide utilization of the recycled scrap AC2BS aluminum alloy, the research results were compared to those with the AC2B virgin alloy, which is typical Al-Si-Cu alloy system. It was confirmed that the addition of Al-5%Ti-1%B increased the ${\alpha}$-Al nucleation temperature during solidification and decreased the grain size through cooling curve and microstructural observations of the recycled alloy. It was also found that an addition of Al-10%Sr decreased the eutectic Si growth temperature during the solidification process and modified the shape of the eutectic Si of the recycled alloy. The characteristics of fluidity, shrinkage and solidification crack strength were evaluated. For the AC2BS aluminum alloy containing 35% recycled scrap, both ${\alpha}$-Al grain refinement due to Ti-B and eutectic Si modifications due to Sr contributed to the improvement of the fluidity. The macro- shrinkage ratio increased with additions of both Al-10%Sr and Al-5%Ti-1%B and the micro-shrinkage ratio increased with the addition of Al-10%Sr but decreased with the addition of Al-5%Ti-1%B. The casting characteristics of TiB and Sr-treated AC2BS aluminum alloy containing 35% recycled scrap are similar to those of AC2B virgin alloy. The improvement of the solidification crack strength of the AC2BS aluminum alloy was possible by the reduction of the grain boundary the stress concentration through the enhancement by both ${\bullet}{\cdot}$-Al refinement and eutectic Si modification. More extensive use of the AC2BS aluminum alloy containing 35% recycled scrap can be expected in the future.

  • Aircraft industry is developed very fast so titanium scrap was generated to manufacture. Titanium scrap was wasted and used to deoxidize cast iron so we are study recycling of it. In this research were studied that metal hydride of reacted in hydrogen chamber of AMS4900, 4901, return scrap titanium alloy and sponge titanium granule. The temperature of hydrogenation was 40$0^{\circ}C$ in the case of pure sponge titanium but return scrap titanium alloy were step reaction temperature at 40$0^{\circ}C$ and 50$0^{\circ}C$, and after the hydride of titanium alloy were crushed by ball mill for 5h. Titanium hydride contains to 4wt.% of hydrogen theoretically as theory. It was determined by heating and cooling curve in reaction chamber. The result of XRD was titanium hydride peak only that it was similar to pure titanium. Titanium hydride Powder particle size was about 45${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$, and recovery ratio was 95w% compared with scrap weight for a aluminum foam agent.
