The purpose of this study was to analyze the geological terms used in the elementary school science curriculums from 1876 to present. We collected the data of geological terminologies based on what is being used in the revised 2007 national curriculum. In this study, data was divided into three periods according to political events, "The Modern Enlightenment Period (1876~1910)", "The Japanese Colonial Period (1910~1945)", and "The Current Curriculum Period (1945~present)". During the early modern enlightenment period, translated Chinese characters' terminologies by western scholars in Qing-China were used in science books. The late modern enlightenment period, we used many translated Japanese textbooks in schools, which naturally introduced the way that Japan's terminology is used. In the Japanese colonial period, Korean students had to study science subjects written in Japanese characters, so they had used Japanese terminologies of science. After the liberation of Korea from the Imperial Japan, there was an efforts to make new Korean terminologies of geology under the new current national curriculum. However, the terminologies used in Korean textbooks ended up using and borrowing the same way that the Japanese-Sino terms of science used later.

There are many statistical information sites as the use of internet is increased quickly in recent years. In this paper, we explore and analyze internet sites for statistical information such as statistical survey system, education, database, and terminology. And then we classify these sites to apply statistical information to some particular spheres easily. Also, we analyze the patent map for domestic patents of statistical information. In so doing, the result of this study aims at enhancing our understanding of internet sites for statistical information.

This research aimed to identify core words used as associative words and definitions for expressing 'electricity' terminology and to find how core ones are activated to form a cognitive structure, using network analysis. The participants targeted 83 university freshmen students in the University of Education located in suburbs. Depending on their gender, whether or not they completed physics in high school, the associative words and definitions were analyzed using the network method, classifying two sections: before-lesson and after-lesson. The result is as follows: At before-lesson associative words for 'electricity' terminology, a slightly different network construction was revealed based on their two properties. However, after the class, they showed similar network structure irrespective of their distinctive characteristics. When it comes to other 'electricity' definitions, before taking the course, they had similar network connection across the gender but based on physics education status, there appeared subtle differences. Ultimately, after the class they demonstrated similar network structure regardless of their features. In conclusion, this paper suggests educational implications on network analysis, which covers 'electricity' terminology of university students.

With the increasing access to the internet, the number of designers who rely on internet to use information on design is on the rise. Therefore common dictionary of design terminology need to be formed and shared among designers. To do so, internet is very useful medium. However as relating terminology increases rapidly through interactivity among designers, it will be far from taking full advantage of features of internet to set up and provide such information unilaterally on internet. This indicates that providing data on the internet, not via traditional books, requires in-depth study on process of establishment of database structure and appropriate interface design. Thus this study will show design terms database model that harnesses internet feature that enables establishment of information spontaneously through user's interactivity, departing from a model that conveys information unilaterally. This report summarized and analyzed various models and suggested classification system in accordance with user's learning cognition. Problems on existing dictionary of design terminology were identified and new methods addressing such problems were exploited. In a word, this report is intended to propose user oriented inter-constructive database model that highlights high level of openness and interactivity by enabling changes of text in the cyber space and encouraging user to participate in making design dictionary.

Background : Terminology is a good index of reflections in conceptional imaginations, trends and technological advances in the field of their own. The purpose of this study is to compare the similarity and difference of terms in periodontology to evaluate the communicability between South and North Korea. These result may be particularly helpful for making glossary, academic communication and social unity at the time of reunion. Methods : This study was carried out by searching northern periodontology terminologies used in literatures published in North Korea and comparing those terms with the southern terms. The standard northen terms were not able to be distinguished, so the terms used frequently were chosen as the standard northern terms. Results : The South and North both use terms that stem from Chinese characters, but this tendency is stronger in the South. The main differences between the South and North are due to the North Korea's effort in converting terms into the native languages. There are also some differences in inscription of foreign language, spelling and spacing, and so on. Conclusion : The terminology using in South and North Korea in the field of periodontology is somewhat different but both side can be capable of communication. Now the basic efforts in both parts must be taken, such as establishing new terms, in order to relieve these differences.

Objectives : Term standardization is the most important for knowledge information in every study. There are several tries to make terminology standards in Korean Traditional Medicine(KTM). We, authors took a review on romanized prescription nomenclature of main titles in Herbal Formula Science to criticize the ways of romanized prescription nomenclature. Methods : We extract romanized prescription name from Vol. 11, No. 1 to latest Issue Vol. 21, No. 1, Herbal Formula Science. Results : The Korean Academy of Oriental Medicine Prescription has guideline for romanized prescription nomenclature. However, only 6 out of 147 romanized prescription name are confirmed with guideline. In addition, 58 out of 142 names are italicized without guideline. Also there are several ways of marking for prescription names. Conclusions : For making knowledge information and easy searching for terms, we need normative regulations for romanized prescription nomenclature by the Society of Korean Medicine level.

Archival appraisal is a key area of archival science. This study aims to identify the knowledge structure of archival appraisal and propose appropriate translation terms. To this end, 34 entry terms related to archival appraisal were first extracted from 146 entries in the Encyclopedia of Archival Science, a leading encyclopedia in the field, and terminologies were categorized based on content analysis. Second, the contents described in the entries were assessed for each category, and the main concepts and flow of discussions were also examined. Third and last, suitable translations for each entry term were presented, and considerations were suggested for the translations, such as the application of appropriate principles of equivalence. Specifically, terms such as "records appraisal" and "archival appraisal" were recommended to be used separately.

기계번역이나 정보검색 등에 적용되는 자연언어처리기술에 있어서 구문분석은 매우 중요한 위치를 차지한다. 하지만, 문장의 길이가 증가함에 따라 구문분석의 복잡도는 크게 증가하게 된다. 이를 해결하기 위한 많은 노력 중에서 전처리기의 지원을 통해 구문분석기의 부담을 줄이려는 방법이 있다. 본 논문에서는 구문분석의 애매성과 복잡성을 감소시키기 위해 유한상태 변환기 (Finite-State-Transducer FSI)를 이용한 전처리기를 제안한다. 유한상태 변환기는 사전표현, 단어분할, 품사태깅 등에 널리 사용되어 왔는데, 본 논문에서는 유한상태 변환기를 이용하여 형태소 분석된 문장에서 시간표현 등의 제한된 표현들을 구문요소화하는 전처리기를 설계 및 구현하였다. 본 논문에서는 기계번역기에서의 구문분석기 뿐만 아니라 변환지식의 모듈화를 지원하기 위해 유한상태 변환기를 이용하여 시간표현 등의 부분적인 표현들을 번역하는 방법을 제안한다. 또한 유한상태 변환기의 편리한 작성을 위하여 유한상태 변환기 작성 지원도구를 구현하였다. 본 논문에서는 전처리기의 적용을 통해 구문분석기의 부담을 덜어 주며 기계번역기의 변환부분의 일부를 성공적으로 담당할 수 있음을 보여 준다.

Korean terminologies on flower structures of angiosperms in plant morphology, written incorrectly in many books, were analysed to suggest accurately expressed terminologies. 24 books in areas such as general biology, plant biology, plant morphology, and biological dictionaries and glossaries were selected to analyse the accuracy of the terminologies for seed structures, e.g., crassinucellate (ovule), tenuinucellate (ovule), placentation, free cental placentation, herkogamy or hercogamy, heterostyly or heterostylous, distyly or distylous, tristyly or tristylous, and hypanthium. The definition and etymology of the terminologies were traced in 4 textbooks of plant anatomy and 2 dictionaries of biology and botany written in English. On the basis of the definition, etymology, and principles for terminology formation according to the International Organization for Standardization (ISO 704:2000), accurately and reasonably expressed Korean terminologies were proposed. The 9 terminologies examined in this study were found in the glossary of biological terminologies, published by the Korean Association of Biological Sciences in 2005, and designated as an editorial source for science and biology textbooks for middle and high schools by Ministry of Education in 2007. However, none of the 9 terminologies described in the glossary were consistent with those proposed in the present study. The inconsistencies indicated the need for a reassessment of this glossary of biological terminologies. The new, proposed terminologies would facilitate mutual understanding between teachers and students of plant biology.
