  • The morhology and life history of Stylonema cornu-cervi Reinsch from Japan were investigated. The species had multiseriate erect thalli from a basal cell. The thalli usually branched dichotomously, occasionally trichotomously near the base, and non-branched thalli were sometimes observed. A dichotomous branch on the upper portion near the base occurred only one time on each erect branch. Cells contained a stellate chloroplast, which was composed of a central rounded part with an obscure pyrenoid and 5-8 cup-like lobes connected to the central part by a small thin stipe. The biseriate part was observed on the six-celled stage in culture, and the grown thalli were multiseriate except for base and apices. Monospores forming from the immediate transformation of vegetative cells were observed. Thalli grew at 15-25$^{\circ}C$ and died at 10 and 30$^{\circ}C$. The fastest growth and maturation were observed under 25$^{\circ}C$ and 14L:10D. Although S. alsidii (Zanardini) Drew usually had uniseriate thalli, irregularly branched multiseriate thalli had been reported in cultures. It is possible that in the previous report the thalli were confused with S. cornu-cervi. In this report, S. cornu-cervi were distinguished from S. alsidii in that the branches were few, the multiseriate portions were observed on the early stage (six-celled stage), and the grown thalli were multiseriate except at the base and apices.

  • A growing number of people shows deep interests in healthcare and treatments for the elderly with increasing their population. Contrary to general adults, old people have their own physiological and pathological characteristics. Therefore, treatments for the elderly should be different form those for others in younger generation. Alimentotherapy, which means the treatment or prevention by means of food, is one of the best way to deal with geriatrics that are chronic, multiple. Korea has its tradition and plenty of information in this field. Even in the early ChoSun Dynasty, when people suffered from lack of proper medical care, physicians used dietary prescriptions as active treatments, Therefore, we can find lots of cases in "Hyangyak-jibseogbang" and "Euibangyoochui" which are medical books published at that time. After that, a specialized alimentotherapy book, "Sikryochanyo" was written based on that kind of total medical volumes. With development of society, economy. and medical science, alimentotherapy has grown remarkably. Unlike in the early Chosun Dynasty, it was used positively for promoting general health condition and practiced as supportive method for medication in the late Chosun Dynasty. Considering the characteristics of the elderly, alimentotherapy is the most effective way to keep them healthy and can also used with medication.

  • In this paper, we look at the basic bibliographic details, such as the publication period, of the 20th century Joseon dynasty royal prescription book, Eoyong Tangjechaeg (御用湯劑冊). Through the process of searching for the royal family members who were given the prescriptions from the royal prescription book, as well as the doctors who gave the prescription, we aim to study its purpose as well as its value in terms of medical history. By studying this piece of medical literature, we will be able to shed light on the Joseon dynasty's royal Korean medicine practices as it passed through the turbulence of history during times such as the Korean Empire (1897-1910) and the Japanese colonial era (1910-1945). We illustrate the changes that took place in royal Korean medicine at the time, and also consider the trends of royal prescriptions as well as their significance from a Korean medicinal standpoint.

  • Objectives : Actually Wongi did not exist in "Neijing(內經)" as a word. Wongi is one of specific features that distinguish "Nanjing" from "Neijing". I have researched for the foundation of history and thought. Methods : I have looked into cognitive variation for Heaven (天), that is from Chinese ancient times through the period of the Han (漢) Dynasty. Results : 1. Before the period of the Yin (殷) Dynasty : There was some worship. 2. The period of the Yin Dynasty : The Lord (上帝) was respected and idolized. 3. The period of the Zhou (周) Dynasty : That the origin of existence is also in human was recognized through Doctrine of Heaven (天命思想). 4. The period of the Han Dynasty : Doctrine of Heaven was transfigured as ideological instrument for politics. The spiritual and physical human's independence was flowed into even though it was not separated from Heaven. Conclusions : As concerned above, the variation shows that consideration for the origin of existence flowed from the outside of human being, like the progenitor of human race, nature, and Heaven, through inside gradually. In the other words, the origin of existence was come to inquire inside of human being. As an aspect of medical science, it can be showed that the term of Wongi was influenced of these process.

  • The conic sections are defined as algebraic expressions using the focus and the directrix in the high school curriculum. However it is difficult that students understand the conic sections without environment which they can manipulate the conic sections. To make up for this weak point, we have found the evidence for generating method of a conic section through a sundial and investigated the history of terms 'focus', 'directrix' and the tool of drawing them continuously.

  • Objective: The purposes of this study are to know the relations of abdominal obesity and ischemic stroke and to know what index could represent the abdominal obesity appropriately. Methods. We have done case-control study and recruited 97 ischemic stroke patients and 117 controls. Case is matched by control by individual matching. All participants had questionnaire, interview and then were examined waist-hip ratio, waist circumference and body mass index. Results : WC, WHR and Hypertension history had differences in two groups, case and control groups. But BMI and other factors weren't significant. According to Quartile of Waist Circumference, the two groups had the differences in hypertension history, diabetes history, smoking status, WHR, BMI, and weight and in the Quartile of Waist-Hip Ratio Quartile, past history of hypertension and diabetes, WC, BMI and weight had the significances. Sex, Age Adjusted and Multivariate Odds Ratio (95% Confidence Interval) of WC Quartile are 2.083, 1.628, 4.491 and 4.418, 4.964, 12.306, and in WHR, the Ors are 2.252, 5.743, 15.776 and 2.632, 8.918, 23.596. Conclusions: We knew from these results that abdominal obesity is very important risk factor of ischemic stroke and WHR more than WC is a good indicator of abdominal obesity, so we should reduce the WHR to prevent of ischemic stroke.

  • The 「Shinhyeong(Body)」 chapter is one of the most important of the 『Donguibogam(Treasured Mirror of Eastern Medicine)』 and can be regarded as the outline of text as a whole. This research compares this chapter with the 「Yangseongmun(Nourishing the inner nature)」 chapter of 『Euibangyoochui(Classified Assemblage of Medical Prescriptions)』 and shows how the two books are related through these two chapters. This research shows that, relating to nutrition literature, the most frequently cited contents in 『Donguibogam』 「Shinhyeong」 from 『Euibangyoochui』 「Yangseongmun」 occurred through 「Qianjinfang(千金方)」(13 times) and 「Quxianhuorenxin(臞仙活人心)」(7 times). Meanwhile, only the contents related to internal training, such as 「Xiuzhenmijue(修眞秘訣)」(7 times) and 「Jindandacheng(金丹大成)」(7 times), were selected in 『Donguibogam』 「Shinhyeong」 from 『Euibangyoochui』 「Yangseongmun」. Through this study, it was found that all seven volumes of 『Euibangyoochui』 「Yangseongmun」 were cited in 『Donguibogam』 「Shinhyeong」, so it can be said that 『Donguibogam』 「Shinhyeong」 was greatly influenced by 『Euibangyoochui』 「Yangseongmun」. We hope this research will serve as the basis for future research on the relationship between 『Donguibogam』 and 『Euibangyoochui』.

  • Processor pipelines have been growing deeper and issue widths wider over the years. If this trend continues, the branch misprediction penalty will become very high. Branch misprediction is the single most significant performance limiter for improving processor performance using deeper pipelining. Therefore, more accurate branch predictor becomes an essential part of modern processors. Several branch predictors combine a part of the branch address with a fixed amount of global branch history to make a prediction. These predictors cannot perform uniformly well across all programs because the best amount of branch history to be used depends on the program and branches in the program. Therefore, predictors that use a fixed history length are unable to perform up to their potential performance. In this paper, we propose a branch prediction mechanism, using variable length history, which predicts using a bank having higher prediction accuracy among predictions from five banks. Bank 0 is a bimodal predictor which is indexed with the 12 least significant bits of the branch address. Banks 1, 2, 3 and 4 are predictors which are indexed with different global history bits and the branch PC. In simulation results, the proposed mechanism outperforms gshare predictors using fixed history length of 12 and 13 , up to 6.34% in prediction accuracy. Furthermore, the proposed mechanism outperforms gshare predictors using best history lengths for benchmarks, up to 2.3% in prediction accuracy.
