  • In this paper, the belt-pulley mechanical loss is investigated. A bondgraph model for the mechanical loss is developed from the viewpoint of the power flow by assuming that all power losses are attributed to the torque loss. The mechanical loss model consists of transient and steady state part. The coefficients of the power loss model are obtained from the experiments. It is found from the simulations and experiments that the steady state loss depends on the line pressure, input torque and rotational speed while the transient loss depends on the rotational speed, shift speed and the inertial torque.

  • Objectives: The purpose of this study was to analyze the factors affecting weight loss effect of Gamitaeumjowee-tang and to see if weight loss could be predicted using influence factors and weight loss progress. Methods: From September 2016 to March 2017, we retrospectively reviewed the medical records of 139 patients who were visited to the Korean Oriental Clinic for 3 months. We conducted a regression analysis to determine whether age, gender, initial weight, patient health questionnaire-9, heart rate variability (HRV), sleep quality, drinking habit and the medication history of weight loss affect weight loss. We found weight loss prediction equations using multiple regression analysis applying significant factors and weight loss progress. Results: Gender and initial weight had a significant effect on weight loss in all periods (P<0.001). HRV had a significant effect on primary weight loss (P<0.01). Other factors did not have any significant effect on weight loss. Using the significant factors, weight loss of each period could be predicted from 23.9% to 44.6%, and tertiary weight loss could be predicted with 76.6% using factors, primary weight loss and secondary weight loss (P<0.001). Conclusions: This study suggests that weight loss effect of Gamitaeumjowee-tang maybe be affected by influence factors and that weight loss prediction equations using them can be used for obesity treatment.

  • This paper deals with the core loss as well as torque characteristics according to the change of stator shape in an interior permanent magnet synchronous motor (IPMSM). The finite element method and functional core loss data obtained by the steinmetz equation are used in order to estimate the core loss. To minimize the core loss caused by the shape of tooth tip, slot-area and volume of permanent magnet, those are all the same in each model. In the end, the ratio between tooth width and yoke thickness to minimize the core loss in the IPMSM is presented in this paper.

  • Purpose: The prevalence of weight loss in esophageal carcinoma patients is high and associated with impairment of physical function, increased psychological distress and low quality of life. It is not known which factors may contribute to weight loss in patients with esophageal carcinoma during radiotherapy in China. The objective of this study was to identify the associated demographic and clinical factors influencing weight loss. Methods: We evaluated 159 esophageal carcinoma patients between August 2010 and August 2013 in a crosssectional, descriptive study. Patient characteristics, tumor and treatment details, psychological status, adverse effects, and dietary intake were evaluated at baseline and during radiotherapy. A multivariate logistic regression analyss was performed to identify the potential factors leading to weight loss. Results: 64 (40.3%) patients had weight loss ${\geq}5%$ during radiotherapy. According to logistic regression analysis, depression, esophagitis, and loss of appetite were adverse factors linked to weight loss. Dietary counseling, early stage disease and total energy intake ${\geq}1441.3$ (kcal/d) were protective factors. Conclusions It was found that dietary counseling, TNM stage, total energy intake, depression, esophagitis, and loss of appetite were the most important factors for weight loss. The results underline the importance of maintaining energy intake and providing dietary advice in EC patients during RT. At the same time, by identifying associated factors, medical staff can provide appropriate medical care to reduce weight loss. Further studies should determine the effect of these factors on weight loss and propose a predictive model.

  • This paper presents an analysis of the power gain under partial shading conditions (PSC) when the partial shade loss is being compensated in photovoltaic(PV) system. To analyze the power gain, our study divides the mismatch loss into partial shade loss and operating point loss. Partial shade loss is defined as the power difference between a normal string and a partially shaded string at the maximum power point (MPP). Operating point loss is defined as the power loss due to the operating point shift while following the MPP of the PV array. Partial shading in a PV system affects the maximum power point tracking (MPPT) control by creating multiple MPPs, which causes mismatch losses. Several MPPT algorithms have been suggested to solve the multiple MPP problems. Among these, mismatch compensation algorithms require additional power to compensate for the mismatch loss; however, these algorithms do not consider the gain or loss between the input power required for compensation and the increased output power obtained after compensation. This paper analyzes the power gain resulting from the partial shade loss compensation under PSC, using the V-P curve of the PV system, and verifies that power gain existence by simulation and experiment.

  • We present a rare case of medulloblastoma which presented with unilateral sudden sensorineural hearing loss as an initial symptom. A 19-year-old man was admitted to our hospital with a chief complaint of dizziness and facial numbness on the right side. His illness had begun two years previously with sudden hearing loss on the right side, for which he had been treated as an idiopathic sudden hearing loss. Magnetic resonance imaging demonstrated abnormal signals located mainly in the right middle cerebellar peduncle. We performed partial resection of the tumor by suboccipital craniotomy. The histopathological diagnosis was medulloblastoma. Intrinsic brain tumor is an extremely rare cause of sudden sensorineural hearing loss and is therefore easily overlooked as was in the present case. The present case highlights not only the need to evaluate patients with sudden sensorineural hearing loss by magnetic resonance imaging but also the importance of paying attention to intrinsic lesions involving the brainstem. Although this condition like the presented case might be rare, intrinsic brain tumor should be considered as a potential cause of sudden sensorineural hearing loss, as it may be easily missed leading to a delay in appropriate treatment.

  • Based on classical Berotti discrete iron loss calculation model, the iron loss analysis mathematical model of alternator was proposed in this paper. Considering characteristics of high speed and changing frequency of the alternator, Maxwell 3-D model was built to analyze iron loss corresponding to each running speed in alternator. Based on iron loss model of alternator at rated speed, the rotor claw pole size was made an optimization design. The optimization results showed that alternator's output performance had been improved. A new idea was explored in size optimization design of claw pole alternator.

  • We investigate the effect of photon loss on pair production in a hybrid atom-light system. The loss of light field not only affects the generation of photons, but also prevents the generation of atomic collective excitation, although the atoms are not influenced directly. We propose an unbalanced homodyne detection of the number of atomic collective excitation that overcomes the challenge caused by counting uncertainty in practical measurement. In discussion, we show that the intermode correlations and the number correlation is closely related to the initial input state, while the quadrature correlations are independent of the initial state and always exhibit opposite intermode correlations even in the presence of loss.

  • In actual seawater desalination plant, the pressure loss due to frictional force of pipe is about 3~5 bar. Also, the pressure loss at pipe connection about 1~3 bar. Therefore, the total pressure loss in the pipe is expected to be about 4~8 bar, which translates into 0.111 to 0.222 kWh/㎥ of energy when converted into the Specific Energy Consumption(SEC). Reducing energy consumption is the most important factor in ensuring the economics of seawater desalination processes, but pressure loss in piping is often not considered in plant design. It is difficult to prevent pressure loss due to friction inside the pipe, but pressure loss at the pipe connection can be reduced by proper pipe design. In this study, seawater desalination plant piping analysis was performed using a commercial network program. The pressure loss and SEC for each case were calculated and compared by seawater desalination plant size.
