The purpose of this study was to investigate the association of protective and risk factors with adolescent delinquency. Using nationally representative data from the National Longitudinal Study of Adolescent Health (Add Health) project, the delinquency level and the influence of individual characteristics, dyadic relationships in the family, school and peer variables on adolescent delinquency were examined by gender. Boys and girls differed in delinquency level with boys showing significantly higher delinquency than girls. The relative influence of protective and risk factors in individual, familial, peer, and school contexts differed by gender as well. More diverse variables influenced the delinquency level of girls than that of boys.

Objectives : We developed the short form of the Mentalization Improvement Program for Adolescent-Community Model (MIPAdo-CM-S), based on the concept of the mentalization. Methods : The MIPAdo-CM was composed of 6 sessions and was applied to 133 students in the 1st grade of a middle school for six weeks during their regular school hours. After 6 weeks, we compared the endpoint changes of Adolescent Mental Problem Questionnaire-Revised (AMPQ-R), Emotional Empathy Test, Peer Aggression Scale, Peer Bullying Scale, School Adjustment Scale, Test Anxiety Inventory and Visual Analogue Scale between the subject and the control group. Results : On the Visual Analoge Scale, students in the trial classes reported an increased understanding and respect for others, as well as themselves. Conclusion : The efficacy of MIPAdo-CM was subjective improvement of understanding and respect for both others and themselves. To prove objective usefulness of this program, further studies should be administered in the form of long-term, regular and structured courses.
The present study examined the effect of parent-adolescent communication style and school life satisfaction on the relationship between depression and suicidal ideation among adolescents. The participants were 1,099 middle school and high school students in Chungnam province. The instruments used were the 'Parent-Adolescent Communication Inventory', 'The Center for Epidemiological Studies Depression Scale', 'Suicidal Ideation Questionnaire', and 'School Life Satisfaction Scale'. The collected data were analyzed by t test, F test, the Scheff$\'{e}$ test for a post hoc test, Pearson's productive correlation, hierachical multiple regression, and Cronbach's ${\alpha}$ for reliability by SPSS program(18.0 version). The results were as follows: First, there were significant differences in parent-adolescent open communication style, school life satisfaction, and suicidal ideation by school level, and in the relationship with the teacher in school life satisfaction by gender. Second, the more depressed they were, the more they had suicidal ideation by school level and gender. Also, the more they communicated openly with their parents and the more satisfied they were with their school life, the less depressed they were and the lower degree of suicidal ideation they had. Finally, there were significant effects of both parent-adolescent communication style and school life satisfaction on the relationship between depression and suicidal ideation among adolescents.
This study analyzed the socio-psychological process of adolescent drinking behaviors. A total 1,732 high school students in Pusan city were studied by the questionnaire from May to July, 1985. A structural model based on review of the literature was examined in order to test the following three hypotheses: (1) sociocultural and environmental impact on the adolescent belief system for drinking, on drinking situations, and on experiences of deviation, (2) relationships among adolescent belief system, drinking situations, and experiences of deviation, and (3) impact of antecedent variables on adolescent drinking levels. All hypotheses were supported by the data. The important outcomes were discussed as follows: 1. Because interpersonal factors were influential for the adolescent belief system concerning drinking, public drinking education through mass communication or drinking education in the curriculum were recommended. In addition to sex variables, friends' drinking and sibling's drinking were shown to have a positive impacts on drinking situations. Also, adolescent self-reported parents' views on drinking had significant effects. Because adolescent deviant experiences were generally affected by environmental factors, it is recommended that positive extra-curricular activities at both home and school should be investigated. 2. There were significant relationships among adolescent belief systems, drinking situations, and deviant experiences. However, adolescent drinking behaviors in supervised situations had weak correlations with their belif systems and deviant behaviors. 3. Adolescent drinking levels were remarkably influenced by drinking behaviors in unsupervised situations. Because it is difficult to control actual adolescent drinking behaviors in unsupervised situations, it is important to fortify their belief system with continuous education programs.

In South Korea, it has become popular for adolescent girls to wear makeup. From social perspectives on their makeup use, however, it remains controversial among parents, teachers, and even the girls. This study examined the status of adolescent girls' makeup usage, identified factors that influence their makeup use, and laid the groundwork for establishing a social consensus on makeup use among adolescent girls in South Korean society. Data from South Korean adolescent girls were collected and analyzed using MANOVA for repeated measures, confirmatory factor analysis, and structural equation modeling. Adolescent girls were found to wear less makeup at school than outside of school. Additionally, their makeup use was influenced by both positive (e.g., fashion leaders and social support from friends) and negative factors (e.g., low self-esteem). The findings of this study suggest that instead of strict bans against the use of makeup by girls, educational programs are needed to help adolescent girls grow up with healthy perspectives.
This paper reviewed the researches of adolescent's behavior as following three main viewpoint in order to defend the impairment of adolescent's rights to their own life style: (1) the influences of environmental factors(family, school and society) to adolescent's behavior, (2) the influences of adolescent's activity areas or activities to their behavior and (3) the understanding of adolescent's behavior by the analysis of their delinquent activities. For further understandings of adolescent's behavior, the dynamic research approaches and the interdisciplinary studies are necessary.

Exploring the risk factors of adolescent suicide is important for effective suicide prevention. This study explored the clustering of adolescent suicides based on six risk factors: mental disorder, broken family, depression, anxiety, previous suicide attempts, and deviant behaviors. Using 173 student suicide reports obtained from the Ministry of Education, we evaluated the associations between suicide and variables related to mental disorders; dysfunctional family life; depression and anxiety; previous suicide attempts; deviant behaviors such as drinking and smoking; and school life characteristics, including attendance and discipline, problems within the past year, and incidents prior to suicide. In addition, reports of warning signs just before suicide were included in the analysis. The two-stage cluster analysis classified the students into three clusters: the silent type (cluster 1; 48.55%), in which no risk factors were observed; environmental-risk type (cluster 2: 24.28%), which featured a high frequency of broken households, deviant behaviors such as smoking/drinking and running away from home; and depressive type (cluster 3: 27.17%), which featured a high frequency of mental health problems such as depression, anxiety, and suicide attempts. Identifying the sub-types of adolescent suicide may help to inform tailored suicide prevention and intervention strategies in school.
The purpose of this study were 1) to examine the effect of the socio-demographic variables on the adolescent's aggressiveness and victimization, 2)to find the relation among maternal behaviors adolescent's self-esteem aggressive-ness and victimization 3) to analyze the influences of these variables on adolescent's aggressiveness. The subjects were 478 boys and girls attending at junior/middle school in kwang-ju city. Statistics used for data analysis were frequencies means standard deviation Perason's correlation, F-test stepwise multiple regression analysis, major findings were as follows; 1. There were significant differences in Adolescent's aggression and victimiza-tion due to the sex of adolescents and school achievement. 2. There were significant relationships among maternal behaviors adolescents' self-esteem aggression and victimization. 3. The variables influencing adolescent's aggression were maternal authoritarian behavior school achievement the sex of adolescent self esteem and victimization.
The purpose of this study was to investigate the influence of demographical variables(gender and age) and alienation on adolescent's negative emotion-induced eating motivation. The subjects were 389 middle and high school students who lived in Keoungbok. The data were analyzed by t-test, one-way ANOVA and stepwise multiple regression(using SPSS 12.1). Major findings were as follows: 1) There was difference in adolescent's negative emotion-induced eating motivation according to gender, age, and level of alienation. Adolescent's negative emotion-induced eating motivation tended to be higher when adolescent were girl students, or high school students or in higher level of alienation. 2) Alienation was the stronger predictor of adolescent's negative emotion-induced eating motivation than gender and age. 3) There was difference in boy adolescent's negative emotion-induced eating motivation according to age and level of alienation. But there was difference in girl adolescent's negative emotion-induced eating motivation only according to level of alienation. 4) For boy, alienation was the stronger predictor of adolescent's negative emotion-induced eating motivation than age. But for girl alienation was only significant predictor of adolescent's negative emotion-induced eating motivation.
This study examined the conspicuous consumption and consumption tendencies of the adolescent consumer and also identified factors that influence the adolescent consumer's conspicuous consumption and consumption tendencies. The data were obtained from a questionnaire completed by high school students(N=679), and were analyzed by ANOVA, and multiple regression analyses. The findings of this study are as follows: First, both the consumption tendencies and the conspicuous consumption of adolescent consumers were above average. Second, the consumption tendencies of adolescent consumers were related to the allowances they received. In particular, the consumption tendencies of adolescent consumers who spent allowances of more than won 20,0000 were higher than those of the other groups. In addition, the propensity for conspicuous consumption was related to the education level of parents, the parents' income, and the amount of the adolescent's allowance. Conspicuous consumption was shown to be higher when the parent's had graduate or postgraduate school degrees than when the parents were high school graduates. Although higher income was related to the propensity for conspicuous consumption, adolescent consumers who spent won 10,0000-20,0000 were more likely to exhibit conspicuous consumption than those who spend over won 20,0000. Third, the variables that had the most influences on consumption tendencies were commercials watched and the adolescent's group of friends, while the most effective variables that had the most influence on conspicuous consumption were consumption tendencies and consumer education level.
