Factors Influencing Elders' Satisfaction with Sexual Life (노인 성생활 만족도와 영향요인)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to explore the sexual life and sexual life satisfaction of elderly people. Method: The participants were 181 elders over 65 years of age. Data were collected from February 10 to December 15, 2007 by interviews and questionnaires. Results: Of the respondents 17.1% still had sex in their lives but sexual satisfaction was less than that of middle-aged adults. Further, 31.8% of the elders reported no experience of sex over the past 10-19 years. The reasons for not having sex were 'no sexual partner' or 'no sexual desire'. Finally, 27.2% wanted to have a date. The main reason for dating was to relieve loneliness and the reason for not dating was 'good as it is', 'having date is shameful'. The level of satisfaction with sexual life was 2.71. Satisfaction with sexual life was higher for elders who had a spouse and for elders who still had sex. Conclusion: This study provides bases on the usefulness of various nursing intervention programs to enhance the quality of life through better understanding of the sexual life and sexual life satisfaction of elders.

The influence of adaptation of dental hygiene students to campus life on satisfaction in major (치위생학과 학생의 대학생활 적응 정도가 학과 만족에 미치는 영향)

  • Objectives: The purpose of this study was to identify the degree of adaptation of dental hygiene department students to campus life, and to provide basic data to prepare management strategies for effective campus life adaptation. Methods: Three hundred students in the department of dental hygiene in Busan Metropolitan City and Gyeonggi Province were surveyed from October 1 to October 30, 2020 and 291 questionnaires were used in the final data analysis. Results: Better adaptation to campus life was observed in subjects who participated in club activities, possessed an extrovert personality, were well adapted to the dental hygiene department, and had no conflict in interpersonal relationships, thereby showing a significant difference. Regarding the factors affecting the degree of satisfaction with the department, the higher the degree of satisfaction in the major, excellence in major, and coping ability, the higher was the degree of satisfaction with the department. Conclusions: For effective campus life adaptation of the university students as a way to increase the degree of satisfaction with the department, increasing the ability to adapt to campus life through achievement of pride in the major and participation in various interpersonal activities is a possibility. It is necessary to develop a program to create an environment for good adaptation to campus life.

Intergenerational Social Support Exchanges and Life Satisfaction Among the Rural Elderly: Sex and Age Group Differences (농촌 노인의 세대간 사회적 지원 교환과 생활만족: 성별 및 연령집단별 비교)

  • This study focused on individual differences in social support among older adults. The purposes of this study were to investigate sex and age group differences in social support and to examine the effects of intergenerational social support on life satisfaction among the rural elderly. Data were from 545 elderly over 60 years of age living separately from adult children in the rural area. With regard to sex differences in support exchanges, no significant differences were found in support-giving and support-receiving. Men reported giving more financial support to children than women, while women reported receiving more financial support from children than men. With regard to age group differences in support exchanges, there was less support-giving in older age group. Older parents in their 60s reported giving more financial, instrumental, and emotional support and receiving less financial support than the group of age 70+ Regression analyses showed that life satisfaction of both men and women was affected by support size and the frequency of contact with children. Giving financial and instrumental support was significantly associated with life satisfaction of men, but giving and receiving each type of social support had no effects on life satisfaction of women. Life satisfaction of parents in their 60s was found to be positively associated with support size, giving financial support and receiving emotional support, and negatively associated with giving instrumental support. In the group of age 70+, the frequency of contact with adult children and giving financial support had positive influences on life satisfaction.

The Effect of Job Related Variables and Self-Esteem on the Job Satisfaction of Life Insurance Planners (생활설계사의 업무관련 변수와 자아존중감이 직업만족도에 미치는 영향)

  • The objectives of this study were to examine the propensity of job related variables, self-esteem, overall job satisfaction, satisfaction about six categories in the job(task, boss, payment, co-workers, promotion, job environment) of life insurance planners, to investigate the effects of self-esteem, demographic variables, job characteristics variables on the overall job satisfaction and the satisfaction of six categories in the job. The survey of this study was conducted by means of self-administered questionnaire with 275 life insurance planners located in Taegu. Major findings were as follows:(1) The propensity of self-esteem and overall job satisfaction of life insurance planners averages 3.75 and 3.35 points(5 Likert scale). The propensity of satisfaction about task, boss, payment, co-workers, promotion, job environment of life insurance planners averages 4.22, 2.67, 1.68, 2.09, 1.71, 2.65 points separately(5 Likert scale). (2) According to the results for examining the relative influences of variables affecting overall satisfaction of life insurance planners, the relative importance of related variables are in the order of , self-esteem in the job, social dignity of the job, the prospect about the dignity of life insurance planner, the motive of having job. Explanatory power of these variables totaled 43.5%.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the factors which influenced the quality of life of elderly women living alone or with the spouse. A survey using interview was administered to 221 elderly women living in Seoul and Pusan The major findings were as follows: 1) The family life satisfaction of elderly women was determined by the quality of relationship with her eldest son's wife shared activities financial strain and location. The determinants of consumer life satisfaction were financial strain materialism tenure and the number of income sources, Housing life satisfaction was influenced by the convenience of neighborhood facilities tenure and housing structure type. 2) The quality of relationship with her eldest son's wife social activities financial strain tenure and the reason for independent household formation explained the variance of the life satisfaction about 29% by using a stepwise multiple regression method.

The effect of major satisfaction and self-esteem on the college life stress of dental technology students (치기공과 학생들의 전공만족도와 자아존중감이 대학생활 스트레스에 미치는 영향)

  • In this study, in order to analyze the effects of dental technology students' degree of satisfaction with their major and sense of self-esteem on college life stress, we conducted a self-administered questionnaire for 270 dental technology students. conducted a frequency analysis, t-test, one-way ANOVA, correlation analysis, and multiple regression analysis, and the results are as follows. As a result of analyzing the degree of major satisfaction, there was a significant difference in the department satisfaction (p<.05). The average score in major satisfaction was relatively high at 3.68. As a result of analyzing the level of self-esteem, there was a significant difference in grade and department satisfaction (p<.05). The average score in self-esteem question was relatively high at 3.75. As a result of analyzing the level of college life stress, there was a significant difference in the department satisfaction (p<.05). The average score for each college life stress area was relatively low at 1.97. As a result of analyzing the correlation between college life stress, major satisfaction, and self-esteem, college life stress was found to have a significant negative (-) correlation with major satisfaction and self-esteem. As a result of a regression analysis conducted on the effect of self-esteem and major satisfaction on college life stress, the variable that most influenced college life stress was found to be the self-esteem factor.

The Influence of Nursing Professionalism, Academic Failure Tolerance and Social Self-efficacy on College Life Satisfaction among Nursing Students (간호대학생의 간호전문직관, 학업적 실패내성과 사회적 자기효능감이 대학생활 삶의 만족도에 미치는 영향)

  • Purpose: This study examined the effects of nursing professionalism, academic failure tolerance and social self-efficacy on college life satisfaction among nursing students. Methods: Data were collected between September 1 and October 16, 2015 via a self-reported questionnaire from 170 nursing students using convenient sampling methods. The survey included questions about nursing professionalism, academic failure tolerance, social self-efficacy, and college life satisfaction. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA, Pearson correlation coefficient, and hierarchical multiple regression with IBM SPSS/WIN 20.0. Results: Establishment vision about nursing science (${\beta}=.27$, p=.006), academic failure tolerance (${\beta}=.17$, p=.031) and social self-efficacy (${\beta}=.19$, p=.012) of nursing students were identified as significant predictors of college life satisfaction, after adjusting for establishment vision about nursing science and satisfaction in nursing science. This model explained 21.0% of the college life satisfaction in nursing students (F=6.38, p<.001). Conclusion: These results suggest that academic failure tolerance and social self-efficacy were significant factors influencing the college life satisfaction of nursing students. Also, as a strategy for improving the college life satisfaction of nursing students, it is necessary to develop programs that can help to establish apparent vision and to improve satisfaction in nursing science.

Life Satisfaction, Social Support, Perceived Health Status, and Loneliness of the Hospitalized Patients with Pneumoconiosis (입원 진폐증 환자의 삶의 만족도, 사회적 지지, 지각된 건강상태 및 고독감에 관한 연구)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship among loneliness, life satisfaction, social support and perceived health status, and further to identify factors affecting loneliness among hospitalized patients with pneumoconiosis. Methods: This study was a cross-sectional descriptive survey. A sample of 205 hospitalized patients with pneumoconiosis was recruited from August 10 to 27, 2011. The data were collected using structured questionnaire and were analyzed with SPSS/WIN 17.0 program. Results: The mean score of loneliness was very high (46.5). The levels of loneliness depended on several factors including the duration of coalworker caregiver, personality, exercise, hobbies and reported complications. The reported loneliness was significantly correlated with life satisfaction (r=-.204, p=.003). family support (r=-.220, p=.002), professional medical team support (r=-.303, p<.001) and perceived health status (r=-.175, p=.012). The influential factors affecting loneliness were professional medical team support, life satisfaction, and personality, perceived health status, complication and family support, which explained about 21.8% of the variance. Conclusion: The results of this study indicate that nursing intervention is needed to reduce loneliness, and to improve the perceived health status, social support and life satisfaction in the hospitalized patient with pneumoconiosis. These results can provide for evidence of nursing intervention to facilitate reduction of loneliness.

The Correlational Study on Health-promoting Behavior, Life Satisfaction and Self-esteem of the Elderly (재가 노인의 건강증진 행위, 생활만족도 및 자아존중감과의 관계연구)

  • Purpose: This study was done to describe the correlation among the elderly's health-promoting behavior. life satisfaction and self-esteem. Method: The subjects were a volunteer sample of 200 elderly in Kyungsan city. The instruments for this study were Health Promoting Lifestyle Profile(47 items). Life Satisfaction Scale(20 items) and Self-Esteem Scale(10 items). Frequency, percentage, t-test, ANOVA, Duncan test and Pearson's correlation coefficient with BAS program were used to analyze the data. Result: 1) The average item score for the health-promoting behavior was 3.23; the highest score on the subscale was self-actualization and nutrition(M=3.45) with the lowest being exercise(M=2.98). 2) The average item score for the life satisfaction was 2.98. 3) The average item score for the self-esteem was 3.41. 4) Health-promoting behavior was significantly different according to age, marital status, religion and participation in society circles. 5) Life satisfaction was significantly different according to marital status and participation in society circles. 6) Self-esteem was significantly different according to participation in society circles. 7) Health-promoting behavior was positively related to life satisfaction and self-esteem. Life satisfaction was positively related to self-esteem. Conclusion: It follows from this study that there is a very strong correlation among the elderly's health-promoting behavior, life satisfaction and self-esteem. Therefore health promoting programs that increase life satisfaction and self-esteem should be developed to promote a healthy lifestyle of the elderly.

Sexual Life and Life Satisfaction of Elderly in the Rural Community (농촌지역 노인의 성생활과 삶의 만족도)

  • The purpose of this study was to measure the sexual life and life satisfaction of elderly in the rural community. For this study, questionnaires were given to 421 elderly enrolled to 16 community health post in Chungcheongbuk-do during a period from November 10, 2003 to January 20, 2004. The results of these analysis are as follows 1. In related to elderly's sexual life, $34.5\%$ of the respondents answered 'very important' or 'important'. $60.2\%$ of the respondents answered they had sexual intercourse. In related to frequency of sexual intercourse, $27.0\%$ of respondents answered they had sexual intercourse over once a month. In related to satisfaction of sexual life, $29\%$ of respondents answered they were satisfied with their sexual life. In related to the sexual life of early age, $66\%$ of respondents answered they had harmonious sexual lives. 2. The mean score of life satisfaction was 2.09 points out of a possible 3 points. Of the field of questionnaire on life satisfaction, the self actualization field showed the highest score. 3. Of the scores related to life satisfaction according to general characteristics, there were statistically significant differences in presence of spouse(p=.001), family pattern(p=.031). personal expenses a month(p=.001), family supporter(p=.013), and health status(p=.000). 4. Of the scores related to life satisfaction according to sexual life, there were statistically significant differences in importance on sexual life(p=.000), performance of sexual life(p=.0011), frequency of sexual life(p=.000), satisfaction of sexual life(p=.000), sexual life of early age(p=.000).
