  • "Rapid Determination of Boric Acid in Nickel Plating Solution" by the addition of Na$_2$C$_2$O$_4$ and thus preventing the precipitation of i(OH)$_2$ during titiration , has previously been reported. In this paper, the exact amount of glycerine and the complexing possibility of oxalate with nickel has been determined by measn of conductivity titrations. This experimental work has been supported by the mathematical application of the Debye-Huckel and mass action equitions as well as statistical analysis. The results were ; (1) Fro determining boric acid in nickel plating solution, 20 ml of 400ml/ι glycerine was sufficient, since 97% of the H$_3$BO$_3$ was dissoicated by this addition. (2) In the absence of Na$_2$C$_2$O$_4$ the continious precipitation of Ni(OH)$_2$ during titration with NaOH even past end -point for boric acid determination resulted in considerable anlaytical error. (3) In the presence of Na$_2$C$_2$O$_4$ during titration , Ni++ combined with C$_2$O$_4$-to form NiC$_2$O$_4$. The solution with this precititate of very fine, colloidal , trantsparent particles, remained quite clear for approximately 2 hours. Therefore it was shown that the presence of Na$_2$C$_2$O$_4$ prevents the formation of gross Ni(OH)$_2$ precititation by forming NiC$_2$O$_4$ instead of a complex salt with Ni++ , which did not interfere with the visible determination of the end point for boric acid with NaOH titation. This observous may be interpreted in the light of the previously published solubility ratio for NiC$_2$O$_4$ and Ni(OH)$_2$, 0.3mg/100g H$_2$O(25$^{\circ}C$), respectively. Precipitation of the less soluble , albeit transparent salt, NiC$_2$O$_4$ precluded therefore the precipitation of the Ni(OH)$_2$ salt.

  • The precipitation reaction of some rare earth chlorides ($Ce/Nd/GdCl_3$) in a LiCl-KCl molten salt has been carried out by reaction with oxygen. Identification of rare earth precipitates by reaction with oxygen and effects of oxygen sparging time (max. 420 min) and molten salt temperature ($450{\sim}750^{\circ}C$) on conversion were investigated. In this study, regardless of the oxygen sparging time and the molten salt temperature, oxychlorides (REOCl) for $NdCl_3$ and $GdCl_3$, and an oxide ($REO_2$) for $CeCl_3$ are formed as a precipitate, which are identical with the estimation results of Gibbs free energy of reaction (${\Delta}G_r$). The conversion of rare-earth chlorides into insoluble precipitates was described by using a conversion ratio. The conversion ratio increased exponentially with the oxygen sparging time and finally showed asymptotic value, over 0.999 at $750^{\circ}C$ of the molten salt temperature and over 300 min of sparging time conditions. The conversion ratios were increased with the molten salt temperature. In case of $CeCl_3$, when the sparging time exceed 60 min, the values of the conversion ratio were nearly constant over 0.999 in all experimental temperature conditions.

  • A molecular-thermodynamic model to describe the salt-induced protein precipitation is developed based on the perturbation theory. We employed the modified perturbed hard-sphere-chain (PHSC) equation of state for copolymer mixtures to take into account the pre-aggregation effect among protein particles. Hypothetical pressure-composition diagrams are computed with various size differences and salt concentrations. The precipitation behaviors are also studied for various types of pre-aggregation effect for the given systems.

  • Hydrogeological survey and geochemical analysis were carried out in Phra Yun area, Northeast Thailand, which is a typical salt-affected area for an understanding of hydrogeological groundwater behaviours. Geological survey reveals the presence of G1 and F1 faults. Electromagnetic ground conductivity prospecting shows that the high conductivity zones of 15 mS/cm or more are distributed at underground of the G1 and F1 faults where saline groundwater is discharged. The distribution patterns of tritium concentration show that high tritium concentration zones of groundwater were recharged from pond and river. On the assumption that the annual average tritium concentration of precipitation in Northeast Thailand is same as tritium concentration of precipitation in Tokyo and groundwater flows as piston flow, the age of recharging precipitation of groundwater with 15 TU in 1997 could be estimated at 1967-1970 years. The velocity of groundwater flow was calculated to be $5.3{\times}10^{-7}\;m/s\;and\;2.1{\times}x10^{-6}\;m/s$ respectively from a duration time of 30 years and distance of groundwater flow 500m -2000m from the pond and river to the investigation wells. Because the estimated values of velocity of groundwater flow are compatible with the hydraulic conductivities, it is considered that 30 years is a reasonable period for recharging groundwater.

  • In this study, the separation of neodymium was investigated from NdFeB permanent magnet scrap. Decomposition and leach-ing process of NdFeB permanent magnet scrap by oxidation roasting and sulfuric arid leaching were examined. Neodymium could be separated from iron by double salt precipitation using sodium sulfate. The optimum conditions established for decom-position and leaching are as follows: oxidation roasting temperature is $500^{\circ}C$ for sintered scrap and $700^{\circ}C$ for bonded scrap, concentration of sulfuric acid in leaching solution is 2.0 M, leaching temperature and time is $50^{\circ}C$ and 2 hrs, and pulp density is 15%. The leaching yield of neodymium and iron was 99.4% and 95.7% respectively. The optimum condition for separation of neodymium by double-salt precipitation was 2 equivalents of sodium sulfate and $50^{\circ}C$ The yield of neodymium was above 99.9%.

  • The degree of contamination on outdoor insulator is ons of the most importance factor to determine the pollution level of outdoor insulation, and the sea salt is known as the most dangerous pollutant. As shown through the preceding study, the generation of salt pollutant and the pollution degree of outdoor insulator have a close relation with meteorological conditions, such as wind velocity, wind direction, precipitation and so fourth. So, in this paper, we made an investigation on the prediction method, a statistical estimation technique for equivalent salt deposit density of outdoor insulator with multiple linear regression analysis. From the results of the analysis, we proved the superiority of the prediction method in which the variables had a very close(about 0.9) correlation coefficient. And the results could be applied to establish the Pollution Prediction System for power utilities, and the system could provide an invaluable information for the design and maintenance of outdoor insulation system.

  • The effect of addition of inorganic salts in polyethersulfone (PES) polymer solution on the membrane formation and ultrafiltartion performance was studied through the thermodynamic and kinetic properties of casting solution. To control the thermodynamic and kinetic properties of casting solution, various inorganic salts $[CaC1_2, LiCl, LiClO_4, ZnC1_2 $and Mg(ClO_4)_2]$ were added in the PES/NMP solution. Variation of membrane morphology and performance of the resulting membranes with change of the salt type and content added in tasting solution were discussed using viscosity, coagulation value, light transmittance measurement, overall membrane porosity, ultrafiltration experiment and cross-sectional SEM image. For all kind of inorganic salts, according as increase of the salt content in casting solution, viscosity is increased, coagulation value becomes lower, top layer thickness below the skin surface is increased, bovine serum albumin(BSA) rejection decreased and pure water flux is increased except $CaC1_2$ and LiCl. In case of $CaC1_2$ and LiCl, it is found that when the salt content is increased, the formation of macrovoids is suppressed and the precipitation rate becomes slow while instantaneous demixing of precipitation type is maintained. However, in case of $LiClO_4$ and $Mg(ClO_4)_2,$ it is found that precipitation rate becomes faster.

  • A method that effectively precipitates capsular polysaccharide of Haemophilus influenzae type b (polyribosylribitol phosphate, PRP) conjugated to tetanus toxoid (TT), PRP TT in a liquid vaccine has been developed to measure free PRP present in TT-conjugate vaccine. The method involves adding anti-TT antibody and ammonium sulfate to precipitate PRP-TT conjugate and measuring free PRP in tile supernatant. This new method provides a complete precipitation of the total PRP-TT, and provides an accurate and reproducible measurements of free PRP. The accuracy of the assay was confirmed by spiking known amounts of unconjugated PRP to PRP-TT conjugate, and the new method was found to have no effect on free PRP while precipitating PRP-TT. The published acid precipitation method did not produce reproducible results due to incomplete precipitation of PRP-TT, especially when the vaccine is formulated in a salt-buffered solution.

  • YIG precursor powder was obtained by homogeneous precipitation in chloride salt solution by thermal decom-position of urea. It was found that ferric ions precipitated prior to yttrium ions. The precipitate was minute and spherical in shape. The precipitate formed consisted of the mixture of amorphous and ferric oxyhydroxide. Crystallization of YIG was proceeded by solid state reaction of intermediate YFeO3 and Fe2O3 in the temperature range of 85$0^{\circ}C$ to 140$0^{\circ}C$. Single phase of YIG was obtained by heat-treatment of the powder at 140$0^{\circ}C$ for 6 hrs in air. The powder calcined was molded into pellets and sintered in air. The maximum density of 4,92 g/cm3(95.1% of theoretical density) was obtainable for the pellet sintered at 145$0^{\circ}C$ using the powder calcined at 90$0^{\circ}C$.

  • This paper presents the correlation on the contamination degree and weather conditions using the multiple regression of the statistic method. The cotamination is a significant factor in the insulation system. The major factor is natural contamination, and the most is the salt. The salt contamination is occured by the weather conditions. The weather contaminations are wind, precipitation, temperature, relative humidity, etc. The effects of those are different, and the correlation is showed numerically by using the multiple regression method of the statistic method. With this, the estimation of the equivalent salt deposit density(ESDD) becomes possible by the changes of the weather conditions.
