At present, the Content-Based Image Retrieval (CBIR) system has become a hot research topic in the computer vision field. In the CBIR system, the accurate extractions of low-level features can reduce the gaps between high-level semantics and improve retrieval precision. This paper puts forward a new retrieval method aiming at the problems of high computational complexities and low precision of global feature extraction algorithms. The establishment of the new retrieval method is on the basis of the SIFT and Harris (APISH) algorithm, and the salient region of interest points (SRIP) algorithm to satisfy users' interests in the specific targets of images. In the first place, by using the IPDSH and SRIP algorithms, we tested stable interest points and found salient regions. The interest points in the salient region were named as salient interest points. Secondary, we extracted the pseudo-Zernike moments of the salient interest points' neighborhood as the feature vectors. Finally, we calculated the similarities between query and database images. Finally, We conducted this experiment based on the Caltech-101 database. By studying the experiment, the results have shown that this new retrieval method can decrease the interference of unstable interest points in the regions of non-interests and improve the ratios of accuracy and recall.

An efficient approach to recognize occluded objects is to detect a number of essential features on the boundary of the unknown shape. The salient points including corner points, tangential points and inflection points are detected by the relation of neighboring pixels of each pixel on the boundaries. Corner points are usually detected in the curvature function and tangential points and inflection points are detected by median filtering the curvature function to avoid the effect of quantization noise as corner points is not sufficient to represent an object with lines and arcs. Then, these salient points are used as features for object matching. Discrete Hopfield Neural Network is used for object matching. Experimental results show that the matching result using salient points is better than those of using corner points only when an object consists of lines and arcs.
Most images are composed as union of the various objects which can describe meaning respectively. Unlike human perception, The general computer systems used for image processing analyze images based on low level features like color, texture and shape. The semantic gap between low level image features and the richness of user semantic knowledges can bring about unsatisfactory classification results from user expectation. In order to deal with this problem, we propose a semantic cue based image classification method using salient points from object of interest. Salient points are used to extract low level features from images and to link high level semantic concepts, and they represent distinct semantic information. The proposed algorithm can reduce semantic gap using salient points modeling which are used for image classification like human perception. and also it can improve classification accuracy of natural images according to their semantic concept relative to certain object information by using salient points. The experimental result shows both a high efficiency of the proposed methods and a good performance.

In computer graphics, 3D mesh segmentation is a challenging research field. This paper presents a 3D mesh model segmentation algorithm that focuses on removing exterior salient parts from the original 3D mesh model based on prominent feature points and marching plane. To begin with, the proposed approach uses multi-dimensional scaling to extract prominent feature points that reside on the tips of each exterior salient part of a given mesh. Subsequently, a set of planes intersect the 3D mesh; one is the marching plane, which start marching from prominent feature points. Through the marching process, local cross sections between marching plane and 3D mesh are extracted, subsequently, its corresponding area are calculated to represent local volumes of the 3D mesh model. As the boundary region of an exterior salient part generally lies on the location at which the local volume suddenly changes greatly, we can simply cut this location with the marching plane to separate this part from the mesh. We evaluated our algorithm on the Princeton Segmentation Benchmark, and the evaluation results show that our algorithm works well for some categories.

In general, Harris detector is commonly used for finding salient points in watermarking systems using feature points. Harris detector is a kind of combined comer and edge detector which is based on neighboring image data distribution, therefore it has some limitation to find accurate salient points after watermark embedding or any kinds of digital attacks. In this paper, we have used cross reference points which use not data distribution but geometrical structure of a normalized image in order to avoid pointing error caused by the distortion of image data. After normalization, we find cross reference points and take inverse normalization of these points. Next, we construct a group of triangles using tessellation with inversely normalized cross reference points. The watermarks are affine transformed and transformed-watermarks are embedded into not normalized image but original one. Only locations of watermarks are determined on the normalized image. Therefore, we can reduce data loss of watermark which is caused by inverse normalization. As a result, we can detect watermarks with high correlation after several digital attacks.

In this paper we present a technique for detecting cross-reference points that allows improving watermark detect-ability. In general, Harris detector is commonly used for finding salient points. Harris detector is a kind of combined corner and edge detector which is based on neighboring image data distribution, therefore it has some limitation to find accurate salient points after watermark embedding or any kinds of digital attacks. The new method proposed in this paper used not data distribution but geometrical structure of a normalized image in order to avoid pointing error caused by the distortion of image data. After normalization, we constructed pre-specified number of virtual lines from top to bottom and left to right, and several of cross points were selected by a random key. These selected points specify almost same positions with the accuracy more than that of Harris detector after digital attacks. These points were arranged by a random key, and blocks centered in these points were formed. A reference watermark is formed by a block and embedded in the next block. Because same alteration is applied to the watermark generated and embedded blocks. the detect-ability of watermark is improved even after digital attacks.
This paper proposes a moving object extraction method using the contrast map and salient points. In order to make the contrast map, we generate three-feature maps such as luminance map, color map and directional map and extract salient points from an image. By using these features, we can decide the Attention Window(AW) location easily The purpose of the AW is to remove the useless regions in the image such as background as well as to reduce the amount of image processing. To create the exact location and flexible size of the AW, we use motion feature instead of pre-assumptions or heuristic parameters. After determining of the AW, we find the difference of edge to inner area from the AW. Then, we can extract horizontal candidate region and vortical candidate region. After finding both horizontal and vertical candidates, intersection regions through logical AND operation are further processed by morphological operations. The proposed algorithm has been applied to many video sequences which have static background like surveillance type of video sequences. The moving object was quite well segmented with accurate boundaries.

A new feature-based motion parameter estimation for arbitrary-shaped regions is proposed. Existing motion parameter estimation algorithms such as gradient-based algorithm require iterations that are very sensitive to initial values and which often converge to a local minimum. In this paper, the motion parameters of an object are obtained by solving a set of linear equations derived by the motion of salient feature points of the object. In order to estimate the displacement of the feature points, a new process called the "bi-directional correspondence scheme" is proposed to ensure the robjstness of correspondence. The proposed correspondence scheme iteratively selects the feature points and their corresponding points until unique one-to-one correspondence is established. Furthermore, initially obtained motion paramerters are refined using an iterative method to give a better performance. The proposed algorithm can be used for motion estimationin object-based image coder, and the experimental resuls show that the proposed method outperforms existing schemes schemes in estimating motion parameters of objects in image sequences.sequences.

Not all line or point features capable of being extracted by sonar sensors from cluttered home environments are useful for simultaneous localization and mapping (SLAM) due to their ambiguity because it is difficult to determine the correspondence of line or point features with previously registered feature. Confused line and point features in cluttered environments leads to poor SLAM performance. We introduce a sonar feature structure suitable for a cluttered environment and the extended Kalman filter (EKF)-based SLAM scheme. The reliable line feature is expressed by its end points and engaged togather in EKF SLAM to overcome the geometric limits and maintain the map consistency. Experimental results demonstrate the validity and robustness of the proposed method.
In this paper, we address a video summarization task as generating both visually salient and semantically important video segments. In order to find salient data points, one can use the OC-SVM (One-class Support Vector Machine), which is well known for novelty detection problems. It is, however, hard to incorporate into the OC-SVM process the importance measure of data points, which is crucial for video summarization. In order to integrate the importance of each point in the OC-SVM process, we propose a fuzzy version of OC-SVM. The Importance-based Fuzzy OC-SVM weights data points according to the importance measure of the video segments and then estimates the support of a distribution of the weighted feature vectors. The estimated support vectors form the descriptive segments that best delineate the underlying video content in terms of the importance and salience of video segments. We demonstrate the performance of our algorithm on several synthesized data sets and different types of videos in order to show the efficacy of the proposed algorithm. Experimental results showed that our approach outperformed the well known traditional method.
