  • This paper proposes a new approach to eliminate the reflectance component for the localization of text in natural scene images. Natural scene images normally have an illumination component as well as a reflectance component. It is well known that a reflectance component usually obstructs the task of detecting and recognizing objects like texts in the scene, since it blurs out an overall image. We have developed an approach that efficiently removes reflectance components while Preserving illumination components. We decided whether an input image hits Normal or Polarized for determining the light environment, using the histogram which consisted of a red component. In the normal image, we acquired the text region without additional processing. Otherwise we removed light reflecting from the object using homomorphic filtering in the polarized image. And then this decided the each text region based on the color merging technique and the Saliency Map. Finally, we localized text region on these two candidate regions.

  • Different eye-heights due to individuals' body heights may cause different sensory experiences against the same visual scene, eventually leading to their longer-term psycho-social and developmental individual differences. Accordingly, the present study compared sensory properties of photographs for the same scene taken from two different camera-heights (i.e., eye-heights). Two sets of photographs were taken in parallel from two cameras attached to a different height on the same pedestrian's body. Analysis of the photographs revealed that both the levels of visual saliency and complexity were greater for the photographs taken from the high eye-height than those from the low eye-height. The results indicate a possible difference in sensory properties of visual scenes perceived from two different heights, potentially exposing taller individuals to richer and more diverse sensory experiences than shorter individuals.

  • Unsupervised Video Object Segmentation (UVOS) is a highly challenging problem in computer vision as the annotation of the target object in the testing video is unknown at all. The main difficulty is to effectively handle the complicated and changeable motion state of the target object and the confusion of similar background objects in video sequence. In this paper, we propose a novel deep Dual-stream Co-enhanced Network (DC-Net) for UVOS via bidirectional motion cues refinement and multi-level feature aggregation, which can fully take advantage of motion cues and effectively integrate different level features to produce high-quality segmentation mask. DC-Net is a dual-stream architecture where the two streams are co-enhanced by each other. One is a motion stream with a Motion-cues Refine Module (MRM), which learns from bidirectional optical flow images and produces fine-grained and complete distinctive motion saliency map, and the other is an appearance stream with a Multi-level Feature Aggregation Module (MFAM) and a Context Attention Module (CAM) which are designed to integrate the different level features effectively. Specifically, the motion saliency map obtained by the motion stream is fused with each stage of the decoder in the appearance stream to improve the segmentation, and in turn the segmentation loss in the appearance stream feeds back into the motion stream to enhance the motion refinement. Experimental results on three datasets (Davis2016, VideoSD, SegTrack-v2) demonstrate that DC-Net has achieved comparable results with some state-of-the-art methods.

  • This paper describes the two control techniques to perform the sensorless vector control of a PMSM by injecting the high frequency voltage to the stator terminal. The first technique is the estimation algorithm of the initial rotor position. A PMSM possesses the saliency which produces the ellipse of the stator current when the high frequency voltage is injected into the motor terminal. The major axis angle of the current ellipse gives the rotor position information at a standstill. The second control technique is a sensorless control algorithm that injects the high frequency voltage to the stator terminal in order to estimate the rotor position and speed. The rotor position and speed for sensorless vector control is calculated by appropriate signal processing to extract the position information from the stator current at low speeds or standstill. The proposed sensorless algorithm using the double-band hysteresis controller exhibits excellent reference tracking and increased robustness. Experimental results are presented to verify the feasibility of the proposed control schemes. Speed, position estimation and vector control were carried out on the floating point processor TMS320VC33.

  • The single phase line start permanent magnet motor has high efficiency and power factor when it operates synchronous speed. The rotor structure is composed of permanent magnet and cage bars. The motor is accelerated by rotor bars and synchronized by magnet and rotor saliency. but starting torque is disturbed by magnet braking torque so, to obtain good starting performance and synchronizing capability. the design of proper permanent magnet is required. This paper is represented performance of start ing and synchronizing by changing permanent magnet thickness

  • The paper presents a systematic comparison of four topologies of the interior permanent magnet machine (IPMM) designed for low speed applications. This comparative study investigates the suitability of the concentrated winding and distributed winding in the stator and the flat-shaped or V-shaped magnets in the rotor poles. The paper also studies the inductance characteristics of the designs using finite element analysis. Various steps taken to minimize the cogging torque and torque ripple in the studied machines were also discussed in details.

  • Law et al. (2004) proposed a normal distribution based salient mixture model for variable selection in clustering. However, this model has substantial problems such as the unidentifiability of components an the inaccurate selection of informative variables in the case of a small cluster size. We propose an alternative method to overcome problems and demonstrate a good performance through experiments on simulated data and real data.

  • Regarding global and local factors of a set of features, a given single image or multiple images is a common approach in image processing. This paper introduces an application of an adaptive version of non-local filter whose original version searches non-local similarity for removing noise. Since most images involve texture partner in both foreground and background, extraction of signified regions with texture is a challenging task. Aiming to the detection of visual attention regions for images with texture, we present the contrast analysis of image patches located in a whole image but not nearby with assistance of the adaptive filter for estimation of non-local divergence. The method allows extraction of signified regions with texture of images of wild life. Experimental results for a benchmark demonstrate the ability of the proposed method to deal with the mentioned challenge.

  • This paper presents a simplified analysis on the rotor position detection error in sensorless interior permanent magnet brushless DC motor (BLDCM) drives, wherein terminal voltage sensing based on the back-electromotive force (back-EMF) zero-crossing point detecting circuitry is employed. The effect of a rotor saliency on the back-EMF's zero-crossing point detection is analyzed using the extended EMF-based voltage equation of the interior permanent BLDCM in a stationary reference frame, and thus the overall analysis is considerably simplified compared to the conventional one. Simulation results are provided to verify the effectiveness of the proposed method.
