3D conversion technology has been studied over past decades and integrated to commercial 3D displays and 3DTVs. The 3D conversion plays an important role in the augmented functionality of three-dimensional television (3DTV), because it can easily provide 3D contents. Generally, depth cues extracted from a static image is used for generating a depth map followed by DIBR (Depth Image Based Rendering) rendering for producing a stereoscopic image. However except some particular images, the existence of depth cues is rare so that the consistent quality of a depth map cannot be accordingly guaranteed. Therefore, it is imperative to make a 3D conversion method that produces satisfactory and consistent 3D for diverse video contents. From this viewpoint, this paper proposes a novel method with applicability to general types of image. For this, saliency as well as edge is utilized. To generate a depth map, geometric perspective, affinity model and binomic filter are used. In the experiments, the proposed method was performed on 24 video clips with a variety of contents. From a subjective test for 3D perception and visual fatigue, satisfactory and comfortable viewing of 3D contents was validated.

In this paper, we present a saliency detection method using entropy weight and Weber contrast in the wavelet transform domain. Our method is based on the commonly exploited conventional algorithms that are composed of the local bottom-up approach and global top-down approach. First, we perform the multi-level wavelet transform for the CIE Lab color images, and obtain global saliency by adding the local Weber contrasts to the corresponding low-frequency wavelet coefficients. Next, the local saliency is obtained by applying Gaussian filter that is weighted by entropy of wavelet high-frequency subband. The final saliency map is detected by non-lineally combining the local and global saliencies. To evaluate the proposed saliency detection method, we perform computer simulations for two image databases. Simulations results show the proposed method represents superior performance to the conventional algorithms.

In this paper, we propose an approach to detect the product label for mobile phone images based on saliency map and the local structure tensor. The object boundary information can be better described by the local structure tensor than other edge detectors, and the saliency map methods can find out the most salient area and shorten the computational time by reducing the size of the orignal image. Therefore, these two methods are considered for our product label detection. The experimental results show an acceptable performance based on our proposed approach.

Recently entered into an aging socity as the number of elderly drivers is increasing. Traffic accidents of elderly drivers are caused by driver inattentions such as poor vehicle control due to aging, visual information retrieval problems caused by presbyopia, and objects identifying problems caused by low contrast sensitivity. In this paper, detection method of ROIs on the road is proposed. The proposed method creates the saliency map to detect the candidate ROIs from the input image. And, the input image is segmented to obtain the ROIs boundary. Finally, selective visual attention regions are detected according to the presence or absence of a segmented region with saliency pixels. Experimental results from a variety of outdoor environmental conditions, the proposed method presented a fast object detection and a high detection rate.

Recently, with the development of technology, computer vision research based on the human visual system has been actively conducted. Saliency maps have been used to highlight areas that are visually interesting within the image, but they can suffer from low performance due to external factors, such as an indistinct background or light source. In this study, existing color, brightness, and contrast feature maps are subjected to multiple shape and orientation filters and then connected to a fully connected layer to determine pixel intensities within the image based on location-based weights. The proposed method demonstrates better performance in separating the background from the area of interest in terms of color and brightness in the presence of external elements and noise. Location-based weight normalization is also effective in removing pixels with high intensity that are outside of the image or in non-interest regions. Our proposed method also demonstrates that multi-filter normalization can be processed faster using parallel processing.

The diffusion-based salient object detection methods have shown excellent detection results and more efficient computation in recent years. However, the current diffusion-based salient object detection methods still have disadvantage of detecting the object appearing at the image boundaries and different scales. To address the above mentioned issues, this paper proposes a multi-scale diffusion-based salient object detection algorithm with background and objectness seeds. In specific, the image is firstly over-segmented at several scales. Secondly, the background and objectness saliency of each superpixel is then calculated and fused in each scale. Thirdly, manifold ranking method is chosen to propagate the Bayessian fusion of background and objectness saliency to the whole image. Finally, the pixel-level saliency map is constructed by weighted summation of saliency values under different scales. We evaluate our salient object detection algorithm with other 24 state-of-the-art methods on four public benchmark datasets, i.e., ASD, SED1, SED2 and SOD. The results show that the proposed method performs favorably against 24 state-of-the-art salient object detection approaches in term of popular measures of PR curve and F-measure. And the visual comparison results also show that our method highlights the salient objects more effectively.

This paper proposes a method of detecting object of interest(OOI) in general natural images. OOI is subjectively estimated by human in images. The vision of human, in general, might focus on OOI. As the first step for automatic detection of OOI, candidate regions of OOI are detected by using a saliency map based on the human visual perception. A saliency map locates an approximate OOI, but there is a problem that they are not accurately segmented. In order to address this problem, in the second step, an exact object region is automatically detected by combining graph-based image segmentation and skeletonization. In this paper, we calculate the precision, recall and accuracy to compare the performance of the proposed method to existing methods. In experimental results, the proposed method has achieved better performance than existing methods by reducing the problems such as under detection and over detection.

In this paper, we propose the auto correction technique of photography composition by which the eye line is concentrated and the stable image of the structure can be obtained in case the general user takes a picture. Because the general user photographs in most case without background knowledge about the composition of the photo, the subject location is not appropriate and the unstable composition is contrasted with the stable composition of pictures which the experts take. Therefore, we provide not the method processing the image after photographing, but he method presenting automatically the stable composition when the general users take a photograph. The proposed method analyze the subject through Saliency Map, Image Segmentation, Edge Detection, etc. and outputs the subject at the location where the stable composition can be comprised along with the guideline of the Rule of Thirds. The experimental result shows that the good composition was presented to the user automatically.

Automatic detection of vehicles in front is an integral component of many advanced driver-assistance system, such as collision mitigation, automatic cruise control, and automatic head-lamp dimming. Regardless day and night, tail-lights play an important role in vehicle detecting and status recognizing of driving in front. However, some drivers do not know the status of the tail-lights of vehicles. Thus, it is required for drivers to inform status of tail-lights automatically. In this paper, a recognition method of status of tail-lights based on video processing and recognition technology is proposed. Background estimation, optical flow and Euclidean distance is used to detect vehicles entering tollgate. Then saliency map is used to detect tail-lights and recognize their status in the Lab color coordinates. As results of experiments of using tollgate videos, it is shown that the proposed method can be used to inform status of tail-lights.
