  • Elastomers, which are engine mounts and body mounting rubbers, are traditionally designed for NVH use in vehicles, and they are designed to isolate specific unwanted frequencies. According to the measurement of the characteristics of engine mounts and body mounting rubbers, dynamic stiffness changes with respect to the driving miles accumulated in engine mounts and initial load in body mounting. This study looks at the variability in same engine mount properties, and the desired dynamic stiffness may increased with driving miles accumulated. And the dynamic stiffness of body mounting rubber changes very stiff above 150Hz.

  • Oil ring and sound proof rubbers are very much important because the cause of oil leakage are mostly occupied by these rubbers. So good oil rings are the necessary parts of autolife expansion. The expensive selection system keeps from factory automation and most works are established manually. These study has been the basis of test equipments automatically in rubber products and DCT algorithm has been applied and the selection system is made efficiently differentiating good or poor.

Migration Behaviors of Antiozonants in Triblend Vulcanizates of NR, SBR, and BR (NR, SBR, BR의 세가지 고무로 이루어진 가류물에서 노화방지제의 이동 거동)

  • Influence of rubber composition on migration of antiozonants to the surface in ternary rubber-based vulcanizates composed of natural rubber (NR) styrene-butadiene rubber (SBR), and butadiene rubber (BR) was studied. Of the three rubbers, contents of two rudders were same and only the other one content was different (variable rubber) IPPD and HPPD were employed as antiozonants. Migration experiments were performed at $60^{\circ}C$ for 21 days and outdoors for 4 months. Migration rates of the antiozonants increase by increasing the content ratio of the variable rubber in the vulcanizares from NR/SBR/BR=1/1/0.2 to 1/1/1 and then decrease with an increase of the content ratio of the variable rudder from 1/1/1 to 1/1/5. Migration behaviors of the antiozonants in the ternary rudder-based vulcanizates depending on the rubber composition were explained by the intermolecular interactions between rubber and antiozonant, by the solubility difference of the antiozonants for the rubbers, and by the interface formed between dissimilar rubbers in the triblends.

A Study on Base Isolation Performance of Magneto-Sensitive Rubbers (자기민감 고무를 이용한 구조물의 면진성능 연구)

  • Recently, as large structures such as high-rise building and long span bridge become lighter and more flexible, the necessity of structural control for reducing excessive dynamic response due to seismic excitation is increased. In this study, a semi-active base isolation system using Magneto-Sensitive (MS) rubbers is proposed to effectively protect structures against earthquakes. MS Rubber is a class of smart controllable materials whose mechanical properties change instantly by the application of a magnetic field. To demonstrate the performance of this device, the MS Rubber isolation system is compared to Lead-Rubber Bearing (LRB) isolation systems and judged based on computed responses to several historical earthquakes. The MS Rubber isolation system is shown to achieve notable decreases in base drifts over comparable passive systems with no accompanying increase in base shears or in accelerations imparted to the superstructure. The proposed MS Rubber system is shown to perform better than the passive isolation system.

A Study on the Stiffness of a 13degree-type Impact Tester for Aluminum Wheels (자동차용 휠(wheel)의 충격해석 신뢰도 향상을 위한 13도법 충격시험기의 강성 연구)

  • It is positively necessary to study on the stiffness of a 13degree-type impact tester in order to improve the fracture prediction of impact testing in wheels using FE(finite-element) analysis. The 13degree-type impact tester consists of an impact striker, a wheel fixer, a steel plate, and four cylindrical rubbers. Important parts of the tester are the steel plate and four cylindrical rubbers which play a role of absorbing impact energy during impact testing. Because of these buffers, the RF(reaction force) variation of the lower part in the 13degree-type impact tester showed the tendency like a damped harmony oscillation during impact testing. In order to investigate the stiffness of a 13degree-type impact tester, this work measured each stiffness of a steel plate and cylindrical rubbers. The stiffness of a cylindrical rubber was measured using a compressive tester. On the other hand, the stiffness of a steel plate was predicted by simulating experimental method using FE analysis.

  • The experimental kinetics was analyzed for commercial rubbers such as NR, IR, BR, SBR 1500, and SBR 1700. Kinetic analysis for the commercial rubbers was performed using a thermogravimetric method, which the activation energies of NR obtained by Kissinger, Friedman, ana Ozawa's method were 195.0, 198.3, and 186.3 kJ/mol, respectively. whereas that of SBR 1500 were 246.4, 247.5, and 254.8 kJ/mol, respectively. It was shown that the yield of pyrolytic oil was generally increased with increasing the final temperature. Considering the effect of heating rate. it was found that the yield of pyrolytic oil was not consistent for each sample. The number average molecular weight of pyrolitic oil of SBR 1500 was in the range of 740-2486. The calorific value of SBR 1500 was 39-40 kJ/g, and it might be a considerable energy potential although it was lower than the conventional fuel such as kerosene, diesel, light fuel, and heavy fuel.

  • Recently, the efficient disposal of the waste rubber is necessary due to increasing amount of the waste rubbers. In this paper, method of recycling waste rubbers as components of medium for hydroponic rose culture was suggested. We investigated growth of rose, and macro- and micro-elements, pH and EC of the media amended with waste rubber, In the beginning of culture, stress symptoms such as thin brittle stem and incipient wilting were observed, but they disappeared in a few weeks. Concentration of $Zn^{2+}$ in media at flowering increased in proportion to contents of waste tire in the media. pH of media at flowering were in the range of 5.70 to 6.35. Rose growth in all media, except in wasterock wool mixed with EPDM powder at 9:3 ratio, was normal and equivalent to the control in terms of stem length, number of stems harvested and fresh weight.

The Physico-chemical Characteristics of Municipal Solid Wastes from Four Different Sources in Daegu City (대구시의 지역별 생활쓰레기 성상 및 특성)

  • This study was conducted to provide the basic information to know reasonable method f3r the removal and treatment of municipal solid wastes(MSWs). MSWs four different sources(apartment residence, commerce, office/industry) in Daegu city were collected, and bulk density, physical composition, moisture, combustible, ash, elements and heating values were investigated. The values of bulk density were at range of 0.30∼0.41ton/m$^3$. The percentages of foods, papers, vinyls/plastics, textiles, rubbers/leathers, metals and glasses/ceramics of wet muncipal solid wastes from three sources except office/industry were at range of 27.3∼46.4%, 21.2∼38.4%, 10.3∼11.9%, 3.8∼5.2%, 0.5∼1.7%, 6.9∼8.7% and 1.9∼2.6% respectively. The percentages of papers, foods, vinyls/plastics, textiles, rubbers/leathers, metals and glasses/ceramics of dry muncipal solid wastes from three sources except office/industry were at range of 21.1∼40.4%, 14.2∼30.1%, 15.2∼17.8%, 4.0∼6.0%, 0.9∼2.8%, 12.2∼14.1% and 3.1∼3.7% respectively. The moisture contents of foods, woods, textiles and papers in wastes were at range of 65.7∼76.2%, 34.6∼50.0%, 22.2∼44.8 and 30.6∼44.4% respectively. The carbon contents of vinyls/plastics, rubbers/leathers, textiles, woods, papers and foods in wastes were at range of 75.88∼79.87%, 58.24∼70.74%, 45.23∼51.63%, 42.29∼45.58%, 40.19∼48.4% and 25.86∼36.25% respectively. The low heating values of foods, papers, woods, textiles, rubbers/leathers and vinyls/plastics by Dulong's law were at range of 178∼1,353kcal/kg, 770∼1,660kcal/kg, 995∼1,629kcal/kg, 2,133∼2,432kca1/kg, 4,200∼7,275 kcal/kg and 6,384∼8,722kcal/kg respectively, and the high heating values of them were at range of 782∼2,056 kcal/kg, 2,459∼3,314kca1/kg, 3,056∼3,592kcal/kg, 4,381∼5,087kca1/kg, 5,005∼8,066kca1/kg and 10,032∼10,739 kcal/kg respectively.
