The herbicide molinate has been detected with high frequency in the main river during the growing season in Korea. To elucidate the exposure of molinate in agricultural environment, the persistence and the degradation characteristics of molinate were investigated in paddy ecosystems. The half-lives of molinate were 4.1 days with soil aquatic system, and 4.2 days in only aquatic system. Initial dissipation rate of molinate in water was greater with soil aquatic system than that of only aquatic system. Photolysis of molinate was occurred about 31.0% of molinate treated in pure water, when irradiated at 5,530 $J/cm^2$ by the xenon lamp, but its hydrolysis was stable. For the accelerated photolysis of molinate in aqueous solution, several photosensitizers were screened, showing that the hydroperoxide($H_2O_2$) and acetone were prominent among the chemical tested. When hydroperoxide and zinkoxide(ZnO) were used as photosensitizer, their photolysis were accelerated greater than 98% and 58% in aqueous solution, respectively. Elution rate of molinate as granular formulations in aqueous system was more than 90% in 30 hour at $35^{\circ}C$. Molinate concentration pattern in paddy water was rapidly decrease from treatment till 7 days in paddy rice field and its half-lives were 3.7 days($Y=1.9258{\times}e^{-0.1865X}$(r=-0.9402)).
From March 10 to April 3, 1999. questionnaires were sent to 157 students at an university located in Hongsong. South Choongchung Province in order to find out their eating habits and exercise patterns. The analysis of the questionnaires collected reveals the followings. 1. Eating Habits 1) 76 out of total 157 respondents (48.4%) said that they skipped breakfast. The significant difference was shown in the frequency of breakfast eating based on respondents' sex. Male students had higher rate of going without breakfast (73.92%) than their female counterparts (28.41%). 2) Most respondents finished eating their meals within 20 minutes. with 58.5% spending 10 to 20 minutes. followed by 28.0% taking less than 10 minutes. 3) With respect to the frequency of eating snacks. 1 to 2 times per day came on top with 63.7%. Significant difference was shown based on sex. with male students having more frequent snacks than female students. 40.1% of those surveyed said they ate snacks because they were either bored or hungry, respectively, 67.5% took snacks after school followed by 23.6% who had snacks after dinner. 4) Concerning the frequency of taking food. 1 to 2 times per week recorded the highest mark for beta-carotine. fruits. fish. beans. milk. seaweeds and fries. As for vegetables. 6 to 7 times a week received the highest points. Males showed significantly higher frequency of taking fruits than females. while the opposite was true for beans. 5) More than 50% of the respondents chose rice and fruits as the food they could eat really well. All those surveyed ate fruits and vegetables. More than 10% of students said they did not eat donut. chocolate. candies. fries. coke and clear carbonated beverage. milk. ham and sausage. The food that revealed significant difference based on sex included ramyon, coke and clear carbonated beverages, ham and sausage, yogurt and milk, with males showing greater preference than their female counterparts. 6) The most preferred by respondents was spicy taste (49.04%), followed by sour (36.31%), sweet (25.48%), and salty tastes(21.1%). Those surveyed shunned sweet taste the most (21.02%), followed by sour (14.65%), spicy (8.92%), salty (5.10%) tastes. 2. Workout Patterns 1) 14.01% of the respondents said they took exercise. Based on sex, males showed significantly higher rate of 21.74% than 7.95% of females. Those who took exercise did so mostly three times a week. With regard to the time spent on workout. 'within 2 hours' received the highest points. Soccer was found to be the most popular sport among the respondents. The above analysis demonstrated that the students surveyed selected relatively sound answers in the categories of the food preference and taste. However. some skipped breakfast and liked eating snacks. and most did not take exercise, which may raise health problems including the weight increase. Therefore, ways should be devised to tackle such problems to ensure healthy lives.
This study aims to examine that Jeollabuk-do 14 cities and counties's job creation policy would lead to a virtuous circle of the local economy through measuring the ratio of spatial mismatch. We suppose that the higher proportion of spatial mismatch in a city or county is, the lower multiplier effect contributes the local economy, especially in the income of residents and the influx of population. For the analysis, this study uses Korean Regional Employment Survey Micro-data and calculates the labor demand self-sufficiency(LDSS) rate of every local labor market for measuring the degree of spatial mismatch. Also we calculate the LDSS rate of employment status, industry, job classification and wage for testing the independency of local labor market. After analyzing, just Jeonju, Gunsan, Iksan, and Namwon could be regarded as independent local labor market where LDSS rates are above 75% in most criteria. But other local labor markets depend on outer labor supplies. For the development of regional economy, it is necessary to consider the creation of 'good jobs' that can induce the labor in parallel with the quantitative increase of employment.
The purpose of this study was to determine the problems of reclamation sites and the prospects of farming in reclamation areas seen by local governments and the KRC branches in Chungnam, Jeonbuk, and Jeonnam provinces. A mail survey method was used. The survey items were set for 15 items regarding the reclamation site situation, problems, and prospects. Seventy-five copies of the questionnaire were distributed to the local government, and 90 copies were sent to the KRC 165 copies in total. In response to the questionnaire, 72 recipients of the local governments responded, showing a 96% response rate, and 74 (82.2%) of the KRC responded. The overall response rate was 88.5%. The opinions on the rental method of the reclaimed land were found to differ according to the geographic conditions of the reclaimed land, the construction conditions, and the time. Regarding the survey on crops preferred for cultivation, rice was highest in both local governments (61%) and KRC (46%). When cultivating field crops in reclaimed land, 56% of local governments and 57% of KRC considered salinity as the most problematic or resolvable problem. Regarding growing other field crops in reclaimed land, salt and drainage problems were recognized as the biggest obstacles in all reclaimed land. As for technologies that need to be applied first for the future agriculture of reclamation land, KRC responded with automatic water management (48%) and local governments responded with unmanned agricultural machinery (32%). In order to diversify the land use in the reclamation area, it is necessary to reduce salt damage and ensure systematic maintenance, employing, for example, automatic water management facilities and drainage improvement methods. The results of this study can set a land use direction for reclamation sites and provide useful information for use in various forms.
In order to determine the seasonal prevalence and population dynamics of Culex tritaeniorhynchus in relation to the epidemics of Japanese encephalitis, and ecology of these vector mosquito in Kyungpook Province, Korea, studies were con- ducted during the Period of 7 years from 1984 to 1990. Cx. tritaeniorhynchus first collected in June between 4th and 28th, and trapped in large numbers during the period from mid-August to early September, showed a simple sharply pointed one-peaked curve. There was a gradual decrease from mid-September, with a very small number of them collected until early October in every year. The average number of Cx. tritaeniorhynchus rapidly decreased after 1985, and the number became particularly low in 1989. The highest population density, which was observed in August during the initial three years, was found to be delayed in the following years, accompanied by a decrease in the number of mosquitoes. In the trend of nocturnal activity of Cx. tritaeniorhynchus, with oncoming darkness they become very active, gradually decreasing in activity toward mid night, but slightly increasing toward dawn. The immature stages of Cx. tritaeniorhynchus were first found in rice fields contributing to peak adult densities in mid-July. The highest average densities of Cx. trisaeniorhynchus was 14,900 per m2 on mid-August 19th. The larval Cx. tritaeniorhynchus showed high resistance levels and resistance ratios against 5 organophosphorus compounds. In the adult horisontal life table characteristics of Kyungsan colonies of Cx. tritaeniorhynchus under insectary condi- tions, life expectancy was 28.3 days for males and 59.8 days for females. The net reproductive rate was 7.8 and generation time was 25.6 days.
To obtain informations on vertical movements of water and solute in rice paddy field during the growing season, soil water contents and bulk electrical conductivities (${\sigma}_a$) were monitored using Time Domain Reflectometry. Soil water contents with depth showed ${\varepsilon}$-shaped profiles constituting of partly saturated zones at top and bottom layers and unsaturated zones (20-100cm) between them. Analysis by fitting with a van Genuchten-type model showed that soil water contents at 60cm were affected by both water supplied from surface water and groundwater, but at 80cm mainly affected by groundwater. Water percolation at the rate of 2cm $day^{-1}$ rates were, but large fluctuation from 10 to 38cm $day^{-1}$ in C1 layer (60-90cm). Therefore, it can be said that any water or solute entering C1 layer is very rapidly transported to C2 layer, especially during the period of high groundwater table staying, and retarded to a relatively constant percolation rate in C2 layer. This can be manifested by the fact that rapid decrease and steady increase of electrical conductivities at 50 and 110cm depth respectively, were found around that period.
This study was to investigate the combined effect of enzyme and trehalose addition on the retrogradation rate and quality changes in a Korean traditional rice cake, Backsulgi. As for the enzyme, a commercial maltogenic amylase, Novamyl, was used. From texture profile analysis and sensory tests, the optimum enzyme content for the preparation of Backsulgi was determined to be 0.1%. Backsulgi was prepared with the fixed content of Novamyl (0.1%) and different ratios (5, 10, 15%) of trehalose, and physicochemical and sensory properties were examined for 3 days of storage at ${25^{\circ}C}$. As trehalose content increased, the water activity of Backsulgi decreased. In Hunter's color value, L- and a-values of trehalose-added samples were significantly lower than those of control. In texture profile analysis, hardness of Backsulgi decreased with trehalose content. During storage, a increase in hardness and a decrease in cohesiveness were typically observed for all samples. However, those changes were significantly reduced with trehalose content. The retardation of retrogradation with the enzyme and trehalose addition was confirmed using calculated Avrami rate and time constants. These results revealed that combined treatments of 0.1% Novamyl and 10% trehalose could produce Backsulgi of better sensory quality with retarded retrogradation compared to separated treatment.

In this study, the product characteristics and physicochemical properties were investigated through collection of commercial porridge. The addition rate of grain raw materials was about 6.5~11.75%, glutinous rice was added at a rate of about 23~60% to improve the viscosity and various other food additives were used. The moisture content characteristics varied among the products. The rotational viscosity of CP (Commercial Porridge)4 was the highest at 39,054 cP, while the flow viscosity of CP3 was least at 4.80 cm/30 seconds. The starch content differed among the products in the range of total starch 6.96~8.08%, amylose 1.41~2.61%, total sugar 6.55~12.81% and reducing sugar 0.50~0.99%. Particularly, total sugar showed a very high correlation (-0.920) while rotational viscosity and color value (b) showed significant correlation with most of the properties i.e. moisture, solids content etc. There was a rapid increase in the reactivity of starch degrading enzyme at the early stage of the reaction which gradually decreased with time. The physicochemical characteristics of commercial porridge presented in this study could be expected to increase the industrial use value of the related research because it considers the quality of the currently commercialized porridge for the future selection of suitable porridge raw materials.

'Jogreen' (Secale cereal L.) was developed for rye cultivars not fast heading but winter hardiness with high yields, which was open-pollinated by ten rye cultivars including 'Chochun' in 1995. Its average heading date was April 15, which was five days earlier on average compared with 'Gogu'. At harvest, the plant height of 'Jogreen' was 117 cm which was taller than 'Gogu' as much as 6 cm. The number of stems was 983 per m2, which was higher than that of Gogu (979). 'Jogreen' did not show both winter kill and powdery mildew, but showed lodging as 3 which is similar to 'Gogu'. The biomass in the dry weight base was 8.1 MT ha-1, and showing was 4% higher than 'Gogu'. The crude protein content of 'Jogreen' was 11.9%, 0.8% lower than that of 'Gogu', and the acid detergent fiber (ADF) and the neutral detergent fiber (NDF) contents were 36.9% and 64.5%, respectively, higher than that of 'Gogu'. The total digestible nutrients (TDN) content also was low, but the TDN content was 5.09 ton ha-1, which was higher than that of 'Gogu'. The seed productivity of 'Jogreen' was approximately 3.1 ton ha-1, which was similar to the check. 'Jogreen' was found to be resistant to winter kill and can be adapted to after-paddy-rice cultivation in all Korean provinces. 'Jogreen' is likely to lodge, therefore, farmers should follow the recommended seeding rate and fertilization rate.
Based on Muan-gun, Jeollanam-do, this study explores how to mitigate the disappearance of rual areas. The study surveyed 95 young farmers in Muan-gun to assess their farming practices and the challenges they face. We further employ factor analysis and cluster analysis classify young farmers in Muan-gun, facilitating the identification of tailored policies or initiatives aimed at fostering and supporting young farmers. The results are summarized as follows. First, Muan County does not have any ordinances or original projects specifically designed to support young farmers. Second, the succession rate of farmland among young farmers in Muan County is 41.1%, which is comparable to the national rate of 43.7%. This indicates that approximately 40% of young farmers in Korea have inherited farmland, a critical foundation for agricultural activities. Third, despite accumulating farming experience, young farmers have not seen any improvement in local living conditions, and rather their difficulties have intensified. Fourth, this study conducted a factor analysis using 21 variables, resulting in the selection of seven common factors for cluster analysis. Consequently, young farmers in Muan County were categorized into three groups. The multinomial logit analysis revealed that the typology of young farmers is influenced by indicators such as cultivated area, farming experience, demand for smart farms, farm income, and farming type (rice cultivation or other). Therefore, to attract young farmers and prevent the decline of rural areas, policy efforts should focus on minimizing entry barriers to farming infrastructure, such as access to farmland, and improving local settlement conditions.
