Objective : It is recently reported that enema therapy can be effective to enteric disease as well as painful disease, skin disease, immune disease. We look around many reports, books and make a comparative study of colon irrigation, coffee enema, retention enema. Method : I referred to many papers and books about three kinds of enema therapy. Results and Conclusions : 1. Colon irrigation remove fecal inpaction from colon and stimulate perisitalsis by injecting clean water to colon and also increase absorption ability. 2. Coffee enema inject coffee directly to colon, it is effective to detoxification, reducing pain by discharge of bile juice and toxic matters. 3. Retention enema use many kinds of suitable herb medicine to cure different disease by absorption to rectal mucous membrane. It is effective to acute, chronic disease, inflammatory disease.

Purpose : To observe the effect of retention enema therapy Gamihongdeung-tang on experimentally induced endometriosis. Methods : Rats with surgically induced endometriosis were administered in Gamihongdeung-tang rectally. After treatment for 40 days, the serum concentrations of progesterone, estradiol, tumor necrosis factor-${\alpha}$(TNF-${\alpha}$),　interleukin(IL)-2,　IL-4, IL-6 and IL-10 were measured. Results : The size of the ectopic uterine implants in the treated group was much smaller than that in the control group. The concentration of estradiol was significantly lower in the experimental group than in the control group. The IL-4, IL-6 levels were significantly lower in the experimental groups than the control groups. TNF-${\alpha}$, IL-2 levels were lower and IL-10 level was higher in the experimental groups than in the control groups but the difference was not significent. The progesterone level was similar in the experimental and control group. Conclusion : These results indicate that Retention enema therapy with Gamihongdeung-tang reduces the size of ectopic uterine implants at the serosal wall and inhibits the growth of ectopic uterine implants. This suggests that retention enema therapy with Gamihongdeung-tang is an effective treatment for endometriosis.

This study was designed to evaluate the effects of retention enema therapy on patients with ileus. We retrospectively analyzed the medical records of two patients with ileus whose main symptoms were nausea, vomiting, constipation and abdominal pain. They were treated with retention enema therapy. After treatment, improvement was seen in nausea, vomiting, constipation and abdominal pain. The results of this study suggests that retention enema therapy is effective for the treatment of ileus.

Dansam, the root of Salvia miltiorrhiza BGE. (Labiatae), has a bitter and a slightly 'cold' property. and is nontoxic. It has been used for the treatment of diseases such as tumors, bruises, gynecologic diseases, menoxenia, anemia and so forth. As an oriental medicine pathway, anal therapy has many kinds of treatments, Retention enema is one the most useful, advantageous methods of anal therapy. This experiment was performed in order to study the effect of an aqueous extract of Salviae radix root(SRRAE) on Immediate type allergic reaction by Retention enema. The results were obtained as follows, 1. SRRAE inhibited compound 48/80-induced Immediate type allergic reaction 100% with the dose of 0.1g/kg by anal treatment. However, SRRAE showed no significant inhibitory effect on the same reaction by oral treatment. When mice were pretreated with SRRAE at a concentration ranging from 0.001 to 1.0g/kg, by intra-anal treatment, the serum histamine levels were reduced in a dose-dependent manner. 2. SRRAE also inhibited by 79.8% local cutaneous allergic reaction activated by anti-dinitrophenyl (DNP) IgE. 3. SRRAE close-dependently inhibited the histamine release from rat peritoneal mast cells(RPMC) by anti-DNP IgE., but SRRAE not inhibited compound 48/80-induced histamine release. 4. SRRAE dose-dependently inhibited tumor necrosis $factor-\;{\alpha}$ $(TNF-\;{\alpha}$) production from RPMC by anti-DNP IgE. Moreover, the level of cAMP in RPMC, when SRRAE was added, significantly increased compared with that of a normal control. According to the above results, anal therapy(Retention enema) of SRRAE may be beneficial in the treatment of systemic and local Immediate type allergic reactions.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to report the clinical effectiveness of Traditional Korean Treatment on infertility patients with endometriosis. Methods: The patient in this case was 32 years-old female. The chief complains were lower abdominal pain, dysmenorrhea, infertility with endometriosis. She was treated by Traditional Korean Medicine, acupuncture and retention enema therapy. So the symptom of she complained was improved. Results: After the retetion enema therapy and Traditional Korean Medicine, the lower abdominal pain and dysmenorrhea of endometriosis was improved. And she was pregnant and delivered. Conclusion: This case study shows that the retetion enema and Traditional korean therapy were effective in treating endometriosis and fertility. So we make more studis about this disease, it will bring the high satisfaction of patient and the improvement of treatment rate.

Pelvic Inflammatory Disease(PID) is a spectrum of inflammatory disorders of the female genital tract involving at least the endrometrium and may include the fallopian tubes, ovaries, and pelvic cavity. Women with PID acutely experience pain and are at risk for sepsis; however, the long-term complications such as chronic pelvic pain, organic changes like chronic salpingitis, adhesions, etc., and the significant increases in ectopic pregnancy and infertility are more important and hard to control. This study is about one patient who has chronic PID with inflammatory pelvic mass. The patient was treated with retention enema therapy which use herbs effective for reducing inflammation, resolution abdominal mass, promoting blood circulation. Also, treated with herbal medication of Danchisoyosan(丹梔逍遙散) and Moxibution at Zhongwan(中脘), Guanyuan(關元). After total treatment for three months, the patient's symptoms are improved and the size of inflammatory pelvic mass is reduced. This results indicates that the combination treatment, especially the retention enema therapy is effective on reducing symptoms of PID and the size of secondary inflammatory organic changes.

Objectives: The purpose of this study was to investigate the clinical application of oriental medical therapy(OMT) and psychotherapy to a somatoform disorder patient with chronic pelycalgia and hemiparesis. Methods: We treated the patient with psychotherapy such as relaxation therapy and suggestion. OMT that we used is represented by retention enema therapy. The recovery of the pelycalgia was evaluated by Visual Analogue Scale(VAS). Results: Following the treatment the patient's pelycalgia and hemiparesis was improved. The sum of VAS score was rapidly decreased(from 113 to 28). Conclusion: OMT and psychotherapy have positive effects on the patient with chronic pelycalgia and hemiparesis.

Anal Therapy is taken valid compound of herb med and has many kinds of treatments. As one of the anal therapy, retention enema is most common and useful way. This study was performed in order to literatural basements of clinical treatments. we had cleared manifest about the origin and literatural basement of anal therapy, methods of management, classification of indication, clinical application and so forth. The results were summerised as follows. 1. It explained relationships between anus and Ojang-yukbu(五臟六腑), Sibie-geongmaek(十二經脈). But in fact the origin of anal therapy is Milgeon-dobub(蜜煎導法) and Jedamjib-dobub(猪膽汁導法) in Sanghan-jabbyungron(傷寒雜病論) of Han Dynasty. 2. The effect of anal therapy can be reached to the destination through theory of the organism which is called Jung-chei theory(整體論) and local medical action. We can find a little in Naegeong(內經), which is basement of Hang-jang therapy. 3. Anal Therapy have Kwanjaogbub(灌腸法), Guhangbub(灸肛法), Dohangbub(塗肛法), Hoonhangbub(熏肛法), Saekhangbub(塞肛法), Youkhangbub(浴肛法), Jwajeombub(坐점法) e.t.c. 4. Anal Therapy is available when person can't taken by mouth. Its benefits are fast effect and low side effect about liver because it is not taken trough liver mostly. 5. Anal Therapy has been used for the treatment of diseases such as stroke, high fever, pneumonia, ulcerative colitis, prostatitis, renal failure, pelvic inflammation. cancer and so on.

This study was designed to evaluate the effects of oriental medicine therapy on a chronic pelvic inflammatory disease. The patient was admitted to the OBGY department of Dong-Shin University in Kwang-Ju, on September 15, 2004 and remained until October 20, 2004. She was treated with herbal medicine, herbal retention enema, herbal acupuncture etc. After treatment, improvement was seen in pelycalgia, low abdomen pain, dysuria, leukorrhea. The study suggests that oriental medicine therapy is significantly effective in the treatment of chronic pelvic inflammatory disease.

Purpose: In order to know therapies used in the field of Obsterics & Gynecology of Oriental medicine. Methods: This survey investigated papers about clinical study, literature investigation for therapeutic methods and treatment reports published from 1999. 2${\sim}$2008. 11. Results: In the clinical studies, acupuncture is more frequently used than herbal medicine. But in the treatment reports, herbal medicine is most frequently used except some cases. Besides acupuncture and moxibustion was used frequently. In the treatment reports various acupuncture methods were used except vaginal bleeding or abdominal pain cases. Whole body acupuncture was used mainly. Pharmacopuncture, Sa-am Acupuncture, auricular acupuncture was also used frequently. And Dong's acupuncture, Hwa acupuncture was used sometimes. Moxibustion was tend to be used for dysfunctional uterine bleeding, menopausal disorder, urinary incontinence, vaginal bleeding or abdominal pain during pregnancy period, hyperemesis, recurrent miscarriage, postpartum disease, lochiorrhea. Also other treatment methods was used such as external therapy, aromatherapy, herbal retention enema, fumigation, electric lipolysis acupuncture, Chuna manual medicine, obesity management, acupuncture at uterus cervix, magnetic innervation therapy, exercise, cupping and physical therapy. Conclusion: These results suggests that acupuncture, moxibustion and herbal medicine are most frequent therapy in the field of Obsterics & Gynecology of Oriental medicine. And other therapy are used such as external therapy, aromatherapy, herbal retention enema, fumigation and so on.
