Studies on the growth of fungi isolated from red pepper fruits and decomposition of capsaicin (고추에서 분리(分離)한 미생물(微生物)의 발육(發育)과 Capsaicin의 분해(分解)에 관(關)한 연구(硏究))

  • To explain the change of the pungent principles of red pepper, capsaicin, during storage, the relation between infecting mold and capsaicin was studied. Results obtained were summarized as follows; 1. Superior strains which showed good growth and high decomposition activity in their culture broths, Aspergillus oryzae and Aspergillus sp. KF-7 were obtained from the contaminated red pepper fruits. 2. The weight of dry matter was increased at low concentration of capsaicin $(2{\sim}3{\mu}g/ml)$ but it was decreased at high concentration. 3. The residual capsaicin in the culture medium was reduced as half as such after 1 week, and almost disappeared after 2 weeks. At $30^{\circ}C$ and $pH\;7{\sim}9$ of culturing condition, the amounts of reducing capsaicin reached to the maximum. 4. At ground red pepper fruits as culture medium, Aspergillus sp. KF-7 could not glow at all, but Aspergillus oryzae showed good growth at 13% of moisture contents and the residual of capsaicin of red pepper fruits after 40days of cultivation time was 45%. 5. At ground red pepper fruits seed as culture medium, Aspergillus oryzae and Aspergillus sp. KF-7 showed good growth, and the residual of capsaicin after 4 weeks of cultivation time was 55% and 38% respectively.

Postoperative radiation therapy following the incomplete resection of a non-small cell lung cancer

  • Purpose: To review the results of postoperative radiation therapy (PORT) for residual non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) following surgical resection and evaluate multiple clinicopathologic prognostic factors. Materials and Methods: A total of 58 patients, who completed scheduled PORT for positive resection margin, among 658 patients treated with PORT from January 2001 to November 2011 were retrospectively analyzed. Radiation therapy was started at 4 to 6 weeks after surgery. Chemotherapy was also administered to 35 patients, either sequentially or concurrently with PORT. Results: The median age of patients was 63 years (range, 40 to 82 years). The postoperative pathological stage I NSCLC was diagnosed in 10 (17.2%), stage II in 18 (31.0%), and stage III in 30 patients (51.7%). Squamous cell carcinoma was identified in 43, adenocarcinoma in 10, large cell in 1, others in 4 patients. Microscopic residual disease (R1) was diagnosed in 55 patients (94.8%), and the remaining three patients were diagnosed with gross residual disease (R2). The median dose of PORT was 59.4 Gy (range, 50.0 to 64.8 Gy). Chemotherapy was administered to 35 patients (60%), and the median follow-up time was 22.0 months (range, 6.0 to 84.0 months). The 3-year locoregional relapse-free survival and distant metastasis-free survival rates were 82.1% and 52.9%, respectively. The median overall survival was 23.8 months (range, 6.0 to 84.1 months), and the 3-year overall survival rate was 58.2%. Chemotherapy did not influence the failure pattern or survival outcome. Conclusion: PORT is an effective modality for improving local tumor control in incompletely resected NSCLC patients. Major failure pattern was distant metastasis despite chemotherapy.

Insecticidal Effect of Aggregation Pheromone Fish Net Trap using Residual Effect of Insecticides Against Bean Bug, Riptortus pedestris (Hemiptera: Alydidae) (살충제의 잔효성을 이용한 집합페로몬통발트랩에 유인된 톱다리개미허리노린재의 살충효과)

  • This study was examined for activity of aggregation pheromone fish net trap with residual effect of insecticides against Riptortus pedestris. Time of escape was from aggregation pheromone fish net trap researched 49.74 min ($ET_{99}$) and 65.01 min ($ET_{99}$) with 1st and 2nd instar nymph respectively. Six insecticides for the stink bugs were treated to 3 different materials (wood, metal and plastic). Bifenthrin and fenitrothion were showed 100% insecticidal activity at 48 h to all developmental stage of R. pedestris. Residual effect of bifenthrin and fenitrothion on plastic material were showed 100% insecticidal activity over 15 day after treatment with 1st, 3rd instar nymphs and adults except 5th instar nymph. In field test using plastic material trap with two pesticides, 1st instar nymphs and adults were showed 100% mortality until 10 day after treatment. These results indicate that R. pedestris might be managed using aggregation pheromone trap with insecticides.

An Analytical Solution of Flow and Progressive Wave-Induced Residual Pore Water Pressure in Seabed (흐름과 진행파에 의한 해저지반 내 잔류간극수압의 해석해)

  • This study extended the Lee et al.'s (2015a) solution which improved the existing analytical solution for prediction of the residual pore water pressure into progressive wave and flow coexisting field. At this time, the variation of incident wave period and wave length should be incorporated to Lee et al.'s (2015a) analytical solution, which does not consider flow. For the case of infinite thickness, the new analytical solution using Fourier series was compared to the analytical solution using Laplace transformation proposed by Jeng and Seymour (2007). It was verified that the new solution was identical to the Jeng and Seymour's solution. After verification of the new analytical solution, the residual pore water pressure head was examined closely under various given values of flow velocity's magnitude, direction, incident wave's period and seabed thickness. In each proposed analytical solution, asymptotic approach to shallow depth with the changes in the soil thickness within finite soil thickness was found possible, but not to infinite depth. It is also identified that there exists a discrepancy case between the results obtained from the finite and the infinite seabed thicknesses even on the same soil depth.

Practical Predictive Formulas for Residual Strengths of Fire-Damaged Normal Strength Reinforced Concrete Square Columns (화해를 입은 보통강도 철근콘크리트 정방형 기둥의 실용 잔존내력식)

  • The behavior of concrete structures subject to fire is complex, depending on many factors. The factors usually considered in research include the level and endurance of temperatures in concrete and reinforcing bars, the mechanical properties of the steel and concrete, moisture contents, cover thickness, existence of eccentricity, and member geometry among others. Although there are a few sophisticated numerical models which can trace the effects of these important parameters on the residual capacity of reinforced concrete columns damaged by fire, practical predictive formulas are in need for rapid yet reasonable assessment in practice. The practical formulas are developed in this study for fire-damaged normal strength reinforced concrete square columns, which can approximate the predictions of those sophisticated numerical models with ease in use. The formulas take into account the effects of exposure time to fire, concrete strength, reinforcement ratio and sectional area. The developed formulas are seen to correlate with the predictions of numerical model in a reasonable agreement. Some examples are also presented in determining the residual strength, safety and additionally needed strengths for a fire-damaged reinforced concrete column.

The Effect of Residual Stress on Magnetoresistance in GMR Head Multilayers (자기기록 MR 헤드 용 다층박막의 자기저항에 미치는 잔류응력 효과)

  • Giant magnetoresistance(GMR) NiO multilayer, which has been used to reading head of highly dense magnetic recording, was fabricated, and oxidized in an air during 80 days to study the dependence of magnetoresistance properties on residual stress in the interfaces. The magnetoresistance ratio and the exchange biasing $field(H_{ex})$ of $NiO(60nm)/Ni_{81}Fe_{19}(5nm)/Co(0.7nm)/Cu(2nm)/Co(0.7nm)/Ni_{81}Fe_{19}(7nm)$ spin valves were increased from 4.9% to 7.3%, and 110 Oe to 170 Oe after natural oxidation in the atmosphere for 80 days, respectively. The sheet resistivity ${\rho}$ decreased from $28{\mu}{\Omega}m$ to $17{\mu}{\Omega}m$, but ${\Delta}p$ did not almost change after the oxidation. Therefore, the increase of MR ratio is due to the decrease in the sheet resistivity. the reduced resistance may result from the increase in the reflection of conduction electrons at the oxidized top surface. Also, the increase in the exchange biasing field is originated from the reduction of residual stress at the interface of $NiO/Ni_{81}Fe_{19}$ according as the aging time increases.

Residual Characteristics of a Systemic Insecticide Flonicamid and Its Metabolites in Sweet Pepper (착색단고추 중 침투성농약 플로니카미드 및 대사물질의 생성 및 잔류양상)

  • The residue levels of flonicamid and its metabolites, 4-(trifluoromethyl)nicotinic acid (TFNA) and N-4-(trifluoromethyl)nicotinoyl glycine (TFNG) in sweer pepper were investigated to examine the residual characteristics of analytes for 87 days after pesticide application. The pesticide was applied once at recommended dosage and double dosage by foliar sprays and the samples of fruits and leaves of sweet pepper were collected for each treatment. The residues of flonicamid in all of fruits and leaves decreased gradually over time, while the residue levels of TFNG metabolite exhibited tendency that increased for long periods and thereafter decreased. Total flonicamid residual concentrations containing metabolites residues in fruit samples increased consistently until 30 days post-application and higher residue levels than residues at 1 day post-application were detected from 30 day to 87 day after treatment. The residue pattern observed in fruit could be explained by the movement of TFNG from leaves to fruits of plant. Such residual characteristic was similarly found in samples treated both recommended dosage and double dosage.

Combined Effect of Fireproofing Gypsum Board on Residual Strength and Fire Resistance of Fiber Addition High Strength Concrete-Model Column (방화석고보드 부착이 섬유혼입 고강도 콘크리트 모의 기둥부재의 내화특성 및 잔존내력에 미치는 영향)

  • In this study, fire resistance and residual strength were examined after the addition of PF fiber and bonding fireproofing gypsum board to a high strength concrete-model column of 50 MPa grade. At the beginning of the experiment, all the properties of base concrete appeared to satisfy the target range. In terms of the internal temperature record, a trend of slightly high temperature was shown when the fireproofing gypsum board was not bonding, and when the fireproofing gypsum board was bonding, as PF content increased gradually, the temperature was gradually lowered. In terms of the relationship, as time elapsed a low temperature was shown when fiber was mixed, and when the board was bonding, the trend of lower temperature could be confirmed. Meanwhile, in terms of spalling property, a severe explosive fracture was generated at PF 0%, and falling off was prevented as the fiber content was increased; however, discoloration and a multitude of cracks were discovered, and when the board was bonding, the trend in which the exterior became satisfactory when the content was increased emerged. In terms of the residual compressive strength, measuring of strength could not be performed at PF 0% without bonding of board, and the strength was increased as the fiber content was increased; however, there was a decrease in strength of about 30 ~ 40%, and in the case of PF 0% with the bonding of board, the strength could be measured; however, about an 80% decrease in strength was shown, and only about a 10 ~ 20% decline in strength was displayed, as the range of decrease was reduced as the fiber content was increased. Considering all of these factors, it was determined that a more efficient enhancement of fire resistance was obtained when two methods are applied in combination rather than when the PF fiber content and bonding of fireproofing gypsum board are utilized individually.

Effect of Groove Shape on Residual Stress Distribution in Narrow Gap Welds (용접부 형상이 협개선 용접부 잔류응력 분포에 미치는 영향)

  • It is well known that conventional welding techniques can result in welding defects due to the large groove angle of the weld. In this context, the narrow gap welding (NGW) technique is applied in the nuclear industry because of its inherent merits such as the reduction in welding time and the shrinkage of the weld, and the small deformation of the weld resulting from the small groove angle and welding bead width. In this paper, the distribution of welding residual stress and deformation behavior of the ER308L weld due to NGW are predicted through nonlinear two-dimensional finite element analysis, in which the actual NGW process is simulated in detail. In particular, the effects of the shape of weld, i.e., the width of the weld and the shape of the welding groove, on the residual stress are investigated. The present results can be used to assess the integrity of defective nuclear components and to improve the welding process.

Fabrication of Gel-type Electrolyte for the Development of Reference Electrode for Sea Water and Application to Measuring Equipment for Total Residual Oxidants (해수용 기준전극 개발을 위한 겔 타입 내부전해질 제조 및 잔류염소 측정장치에의 적용)

  • Gel type internal electrolytes were synthesized by varying hydroxyethyl-cellulose (HEC) amounts and their durability and conductivity were measured. The ionic conductivity decreased as the content of HEC increased thus the internal electrolyte containing more than 12% of HEC could not be used as a reference electrode. Based on durability test results, as the HEC amount decreased carrier density resulting in increasing of the amount of KCl coming out of the porous membrane. Therefore in order to use long time at ballast water treatment systems, we selected 10% HEC for gel type internal electrolyte. The resolution test for total residual oxidants (TRO) was carried out using the TRO sensor and the gel type reference electrode made of 10% HEC. A 50 mV potential was applied to the TRO sensor for 30 sec and changes in the current were measured. It was confirmed that the TRO concentrations ranging from 0 to 15 mg/L could be separated at salinity conditions of 0.2~30 PSU. The results indicated that the TRO concentration at sea water and at fresh water was successfully measured by the TRO sensor constructed with the reference electrode using gel-type internal electrolyte of HEC.
