  • The purpose of this study is to understand what kind of effects a local residents’ participation on a local environmental problem has on the Environmental consciousness of the resident, and on the local community. I (researcher) employed qualitative research methods on the residents' environmental movement, which claimed to preserve the Sung Mi Mountain from the Seoul City Hall's plan of the water reservoir construction. I tried to understand the participation motivation and participating actions, and also the changes and effects the participation brought at both a personal, and community level. The data were gathered by means of in-depth interview with the local residents and unstructured questionnaire. At first, through the residents' environmental movement, the participants acquired a growth in environmental consciousness. For example, they obtained better understanding of the environment, change of attitude to environment, and participation function. Secondly, it is meaningful that a local tie intervened by the environment, enforced self-governing, and shows how community sentiment plays an important role for local community organization. Moreover, the environmental movement contributed to developing a ‘culture for participation’. In conclusion, participating in a local environmental problem can be an integration of learning and practice and also leads to reflective thinking about the relationship not only between human beings and nature, but also among human beings. In addition, it can buildup a systemic cooperation for local problem-solving and the ability to make an alternative culture in the community. These are the significances of the local environmental problem-participation on the environmental education.

  • This paper examines research ethics in using the generative AI ChatGPT for research purposes. After reviewing traditional themes of research ethics and relevant principles, it will be argued to be inappropriate to discuss ChatGPT-related issues only from the perspective of permission, detection, and punishment. We need to consider the fundamental problem that the current rules pose concerning the way ChatGPT works. This leads to the proposal that the usage of ChatGPT should be clearly noted when it is used for research purposes and that some unresolved issues should be recognized. Although the advantages of ChatGPT cannot be denied, consensus on the appropriate scope of use is needed from perspectives of the research community and researcher's social responsibility. As generative artificial intelligence technologies are still in the early stages of development, researchers should pay attention to relevant research ethical issues, while not making hasty conclusions. In the conclusion, it will be also proposed to discuss and make a consensus regarding the definition of research that is premised on existing research ethics, but challenged with the advent of ChatGPT and AI technology.

With spending time personally in the community to observe their lives, the researcher could be in close rapport with the residents. After the period of getting familiar with each other, in-depth individual interview and focus group interview were conducted and then, qualitative analysis was completed. As a result, general evidences showed that perceived seniors' health on the whole was improved physically, socially, and mentally by moving into the community providing appropriate environment affordance with the older adults. • This study was conducted as a part of the project to establish professional development system(PDS) for teachers in Korea. This study aimed to provide a case of running a professional learning community(PLC) of teachers in science education based on the collaboration of a national university of education and its affiliated elementary school, in search of learning by participants and implications for professional development of teachers as well as for science teaching in elementary schools. Teachers and researchers who participated in the PLC were able to accumulate meaningful experiences through 11 rounds of meetings. It was not easy to secure enough time for meetings, but they were able to boost their self-confidence for science teaching and enhance the quality of lessons through these gatherings. Participating teachers had a chance to share instructional design, planning, strategies and practices, which include cases of guiding free-choice research activities among students, thereby to be motivated for improved science teaching for the future. The researcher participating in this PLC was also able to understand the identity of an elementary school, especially the affiliated school, and identify the reality and difficulties related to science teaching in schools. Experiences of participating in PLC are expected to help improve the quality of science teaching in affiliated elementary school and pre-service teacher education of the university.

  • The purpose of this study is to empirically analyze whether or not, if a community social service center was affiliated with a governing body running other community social service centers, the center would have better organizational performance in comparing to an independently running center. Data was collected from a nationwide mailed and self-administered survey, which 237 centers out of 343 community social service centers responded. Even if, the response rate was 72%, 218 centers were finally analyzed due to the weakness of reliability and incompleteness. By the way, measurement of organizational performance as the dependent variable has been substituted of the results of nationwide organizational evaluation project as the secondary data. One of findings is that 68% of 218 responding centers appeared to be affiliated with a governing body which running more than three other centers, while 41% being affiliated with a body which running more than five other centers. However, a logistic regression analysis which using organizational performance as the dependent variable, has failed to verify the hypothesis that a center which affiliated with a governing body running other centers has better organizational performance when comparing to an independent center. The researcher assumes that a part of governing bodies has better performance and improves competitiveness while the other larger part of them pursues simple organizational growth. Thus, this situation made that the overall evaluation of being affiliated with a large governing body was not positive.
