  • A medical image workstation was developed using multimedia technique. The system based on PC-486DX was designed to acquire medical images produced by medical imaging instruments and related audio information, that is, doctors' reporting results. Input information was processed and analyzed, then the results were presented in the form of graph and animation. All the informations of the system were hierarchically related with the image as the apex. Processing and analysis algorithms were implemented so that the diagnostic accuracy could be improved. The diagnosed information can be transferred for patient diagnosis through LAN(local area network).

  • Many studies of Asian dust have been undertaken to investigate dust sources, their transport and deposition mechanisms, their optical and chemical properties, and their physical characteristics. These studies have used meteorological parameters, optical thickness, and mineral compositions derived from satellite images, lidar, sunphotometer, and other ground-based instruments in East Asia (Chun et al., 2001; Murayama et al., 2001).   • Monodisperse aerosols containing spherical particles of known size, shape and density are the most widely used to calibrate particle-size measuring instruments and to determine the effects of particle size on the sampling device. However, these tests are time-consuming because monodisperse aerosols with different particle sizes are generated and tested in a series of experiments. Polydisperse aerosols may be used to determine the calibration or to simulate equipment under controlled laboratory condition. (omitted)

  • Plant Protection Systems(PPS) are those systems that initiate safety actions to mitigate the consequences of design basis events by sending signals to Reactor Trip Switch Gear System(RTSS) and Engineered Safety Features-Component Control Systems(ESF-CCS). This paper illustrates distinctive features and improved design concepts of Korea Next Generation Reactor(KNGR) based on the experience obtained through prototyping of PPS.

Hidden Monsters in the Submillimeter

  • Submillimeter Galaxies (SMGs) are high-redshift galaxies undergone extremely intense starbursts. Their UV radiation is heavily extinguished by dust and is re-radiated in the far-IR and submillimeter. They are thought to be progenitors of present-day giant elliptical galaxies and can be tracers of the highest density environment at high redshift. However, because of the low angular resolution of existing single-dish submillimeter telescopes, the progress in understanding the SMG population has been remarkably slow. In this talk, I will outline the outstanding issues in this field, and introduce our Submillimeter Array interferometric studies of SMGs. I will also discuss possible new research that will be enabled by next-generation instruments such as ALMA and LMT.

  • The purpose of this study is to identify a typology of urban marred women's leisure activities based on participation data. The survey of this research was conducted by means of interview with 606 married women in Seoul. The instruments of the survey sere questionnaire including a leisure participation scale. Data were analysed by means of the statistic of frequency. percentage, arithmetic mean, standard deviation and factor analysis ,using the SPSS-X and SPSS/PC+ programs. The result was that the leisure activities of urban married women could be grouped into 5 factors; self-developing , family-oriented. religious-social, sociable, and time-spending activities For further researches, we suggested several proposals.

  • In order to achieve the growth of traditional Chinese medicine, the chinese government has annually released "China Statistical Yearbook of Chinese Medicine" to the world since "State Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine of the People's Republic of China" established in 1988. It is believed that the chinese government intends to secure the early dominance of the global medical market by systematic management of its own medicine infrastructures. Although the statistics of "China Statistical Yearbook of Chinese Medicine" weren't systematically organized at the beginning, it has becoming richer, more systematic, and more standardized in the data construction and system as time has passed. Furthermore, we can take a look at China's effort to take the initiative of oriental medicine by expanding investment in several core areas - medicine resources, operation of medical instruments, service, medicine education, medicine science research, and working expenses. This article will show how china has been trying to develop the chinese medicine, focusing on two parts. One is specific analysis of the book "China Statistical Yearbook of Chinese Medicine". It is divided into analysis of its construction system, the degree of data construction, and its statistical system. The other is analysis of annual changes in areas of medicine resources, operation of medical instruments, service, medicine education, medicine science research, and working expenses.
