The previous studies based on a resource-based view of firm highlighted the role of resources within a firm in creating and sustaining competitive advantage. Recent research, however, the relational view points to the importance of inter-firm sources(or relational capital) in creating firm competitiveness. In international business field, the studies on born-global firms also states that when firms are lack of ownership-specific advantages in their internationalization process, they resort to the external partners and social networks to complement their resource scarcity. By adopting the relational view and born-global firms concept, a network-based approach needs to be applied to explain the international strategy of Korean service firms. This is because most of Korean service firms own less ownership-specific advantages than global competitors. This study proposes Korean firms' global network building and exploiting strategy to enhance their international stages of development. The network, for example, Global Korean Tourism Network, enables network members access to the valuable resources and capabilities they are lack of when undergoing internationalization process. This study's contribution is along two dimension. First, even global Korean network is emerging as a major issue in recent years, we could not figure out how to build global Korean network for service firms. This studies gives an answer. Second, we derived what benefits can be gained from the network if Global Korean Tourism Network is developed for hotel, tourism, convention firms' internationalization.
The Changes in management environment in SMEs such as rapid development of information communication technology, worldwide expansion of FTAs, enlargement of global outsourcing, etc have changed various aspects in industry-academy or industry-academy-government cooperation. It has been away from the cooperation focused on research and development and industrial training, and advanced to the cooperation focused on the business fields and practices where the executive ability and professionalism are required to commercialize major products of local SMEs. Compared with the existing model, the new model of industry-academy-government cooperation can provide effective and customized supports to local SMEs and expect better performance than ever before through the choice and focus. However, the existing support programs of government and related organizations are just top-down pattern to SMEs. In addition to the development of industrial technology, education and training for labor force and knowledge interchange between industry and university, the new cooperation model would also provide practical tasks such as enhancement of business competences and abilities to cultivate foreign markets. This study deals with Gyeongbuk PRIDE Products support project that is the new model of industry-academy-government cooperation and evaluates the effectiveness of this support project by empirically analyzing the survey results from the target SMEs.
Recently, the successful appointment of the general directorate of GCF (Green Climate Fund) in Songdo of Korea made a great history for the golden triangle with GGGI (global Green Growth Institute) and GTC (Green Technology Center). Now, Korea became the Mecca for the global green growth and it gave a great opportunity foe the Korea to lead the global economy in the future. However, to successfully manage the GCF, the Korean government should show their willingness as well as the readiness for the green prowth and green productivity. It is really hard for the Korea, since it takes the second rank for the growth rate of carbon dioxide emission in the world. To overcome this shameful status, it should make the best effort to promote the green productivity, especially in a field of logistics industry, because it takes 21% of global CO2 emission, the second largest portion. The research aims to systematically introduce the Global Malmquist-Luenberger Index (GML) and to evaluate the logistics industry of Korea based on the GML approach. It concludes the innovative technology is utmost important to improve the green productivity of the logistics industry and thus the Korean government should make more aggressive role to fill this missing link in the innovation network.
Since the global financial crisis, criticism against the integrity of financial institutions proposed new financial regulations such as Basel III. These systems are expected to have impacts multilaterally on management and structure of mid- and long-term financial industry. It is also believed that financial institutions will inevitably review business model to respond to these enhanced regulations. The ongoing global financial regulation pursues regulation scope extension, introduction of global regulatory capital system, introduction of global liquidity, etc. As for quantitative index, Basel Committee on Banking Supervision is promoting QIS which is discussed mainly on implementation time from the juridical point of view. This study aims to present domestic banking industry's structural changes depending on regulation enhancement of foreign countries after global financial crisis, and suggest strategy that improves competitiveness of products. Looking at the research result, global financial regulation requires compliance with the regulations through treaties but it shows negative time center around banks. Furthermore, it is also pointed out financially advanced countries' passive attitude on regulation enhancement is problem. Therefore, regulations differentiated between developing and developed countries, dualistic regulations on financial industry, participation of advanced nations, etc are the postulation to change the structure of financial industry.
M&A is an important strategic decision made to ensure the competitiveness of companies and cases of M&A have been increasing in recent years. But the success of an M&A is not assured. In order to succeed, there should first be a well managed strategic leadership by the CEO and an integration strategy. Companies need also to overcome the resistance to change among members. A successful example of an M&A is that of LG Chem and Hyundai Petrochemical. By using this M&A as a case study, the influence of the CEO's Strategic Leadership, and the Integration Strategy on Resistance, Acceptance and Performance were assessed. For this study, research was conducted on CEO Strategic Leadership and Integration Strategy before members of LG Chem (DAESAN PLANT) were interviewed on the M&A's implementation by LG Chem's HR staff, management and members. The results show that CEO strategic leadership and the integration strategy are major change drivers and that they are important to the early stabilization of M&A companies. Finally, suggestions are made as to how such success may be replicated for other companies undergoing M&A in the future.
Recently, Korean medium-sized medical organizations require innovative strategies. Network-driven concerns in Korean medical organization have been a front burner issue to enhance economic and managerial efficiencies. Effective network-driven collaboration depends upon effective processes and economics strategies among medical providers group. From this motivation, we studied and provided the systems' theoretical background and networked hospital system structures. The aim of suggested research model in this paper is to overcome demerit of stand-alone medium-sized hospitals and analyze a system dynamics model to measure managerial performances. The developed system dynamics model is to quantify the effects of network strategy based on the historical financial data of real-life hospitals network experiences. The network effects are resulted in efficiencies and effectiveness enhancements in competitiveness through advertisement and effective education system. The simulations of system dynamics results can explain the improvement in financial outcome by joining in the network group. The network effects are shown more effective in dental hospital than other groups. In conclusion, it is expected that network effects have a critical influence of managerial, marketing, and medical collaboration performance for any type of medical hospitals.
The purpose of this study is to evaluate the operational efficiency of Chinese e-commerce companies and to present measures to improve efficiency. This paper selected 16 enterprises as the research objects, from the e-commerce demonstration enterprises of the Ministry of Commerce of China in 2017-2018, to conduct an empirical study on the operating efficiency of e-commerce enterprises. By using DEA method, we selected 3 input and 2 output indicators to measure the input-output efficiency of enterprises from input-oriented. Using different model in DEA, we calculated the technical efficiency, pure technical efficiency and scale efficiency, also efficiency based on the sample of 2018 and horizontal analysis from 2016 to 2018. The analysis showed that the overall efficiency of Chinese e-commerce companies was continuously improving, and that their business capabilities and business scale were also gradually improving. Through the calculation of efficiency, we evaluated the competitiveness of the e-commerce demonstration enterprises, and explored measures to improve their management efficiency. Korea ship management industry originated from overseas seamen employment business since 1963 in the Republic of Korea. Recently, new trend of shipping business has developed in a separate way with ship's ownership and management, that is, cargo business which is in charge of shipowner and practical affairs for ship operation which is in charge of specialized ship management company. Ship Management Industry is being focused as a new development engine with the anticipation of continuous development over 10% a year leading a competitiveness and saving cost in the world market. Therefore, "Draft Ship Management Industry Development Act" was suggested by the shipping business group and academic scholars as a result of continuous research for a long time. This was also submitted to the national assembly for adoption as a national law. The purpose of this paper is to make a contribution to the development of Korea ship management industry through the consideration of each article of this draft Act implications and suggestion of legal and institutional improvements. There is an increasing need to foster new industries at the local level. This study aims to analyze the spatial patterns of new industries in Korea from 2007-2017 and to figure out its determinants of agglomeration in 2017. Through this study, it is found that new industries are unevenly distributed around Seoul Metropolitan Area(SMA). The regional disparity between SMA and non-SMA is prominent. Furthermore, new industries represent a strong spatial positive autocorrelation, showing a strong concentration on a few regions in Korea. This study explores the determinants on agglomeration of new industries with spatial statistical model. From the results of spatial error model, it is indicated that the number of graduate students, the ratio of technology based start-ups, and the number of elementary, middle, and high schools have a significant effect on new industries. In addition, the specialization and the diversity of industrial structure on knowledge-based manufacturing industries and knowledge-based service industries have been statistically significant. This study provides implications that non-SMA needs policies with respect to attracting talented people, developing human resources, and improving regional environment in order to improve regional competitiveness in promoting new industries.
To enhance the recycling rate of wasted glass bottles toward recycled aggregates, the study would decide optimal comminution equipment based on the particle size distribution, aspect ratio and equipment energy analysis. The impact, compress and abrasion is type of generated force by comminution. So, hammer crusher, shredder, roll crusher and ball mill have been selected because they have characteristic which is each type of force. As a result of the particle size analysis of each product, only the shredder product satisfied concrete and asphalt aggregate quality standard condition. Also, as a result of aspect ratio analysis using Imaging software program (Image J, National institute of health), most of size fraction is confirmed under 1.6 value. It was confirmed that the product has low dangerousness and satisfying to shpage index. Also, the particle reduction ratio against input energy of shredder product was the most high. Therefore, we can decide that the optimal equipment which applicable for comminuting waste glass bottle in certain particle size under 10mm is shredder. The result of study will make contribution to increasing energy efficiency of comminution processing and competitiveness of product.
