Purpose: The purpose of this study is to discuss on Daeryuk Baekje (the Continental Baekje), as new researches are beginning to emerge on the existing theory that Baekje exits only in the Korean Peninsula. Research design, data and methodology: We intend to systematically reveal this new theory by carefully examining the early founding process of Baekje, the process of determining its capital city and the ancient documents related to it. Objective analysis and research were conducted through literature research including not only domestic research data but, also research data from overseas. Results: Baekje existed on the Continent and on the Peninsula in the early days of Baekje establishment, before the Kingdom was established, so-called Hanseong Baekje. Conclusion: Biryu and Onjo settled down near Yoseo and Jinpyeong when they first moved to the south from Goguryeo. Biryu led hundred families to Michuhol and established Baekje. Onjo established Sipje at the Wirye Castle with ten of his servants. After Biryu's death the people of Baekje pledge allegiance to Onjo. The Sipje changed its country's name to Baekje. This illustrates that the country was operated with a capital in two regions, in the Continent and the Korean Peninsula. The country was ruled under two royal castles with 22 provincial governments (Dam-ro). Each area was ruled by the royal families and the competent prince among them succeeded to the next throne. It is a unique governing system and illustrates that Baekje existed in the Continent.

This paper is performed to study for the plants ecosystems for the rural community forest of designated as natural monument. In addition, it is also proposed the plan of the rural community forest's conservation and restoration for avoiding to the destroy of indiscriminate development such as land-use, cultivation. The rural community forest is a mirror that reflect the regional culture and history, as well as environment. According to this view, undoubtedly, we need to recognise the formative background of rural community forest, the relations between the environment around and the characteristic of plants ecosystem comprehensively. For the purpose of proposing to the plan of rural village forests' conservation and restoration, therefore, this study is: 1) reviews the previous research and ancient documents, and 2) surveys the vegetation structure and the growing conditions in rural village forest directly.
In order to assess antifungal activity of a wooden storage box, which was made of Paulownia tomentosa and used for keeping ancient documents, antifungal activity of volatile organic compounds emitted from the box was investigated along with qualitative analysis on major substances of the compounds. After collecting floating microorganisms inside air tester, the fungal activity was assessed by counting the number of colonies growing on TSA media. Compared to the control which collected 85 colonies from outdoor, 72 colonies were observed showing reduction rate of 14.82%. Through GC/MS and TDS system analysis, limonene was detected from the volatile organic compounds as characteristic features. When the fungal activity was assessed through fumigation by adding natural biocide BI and BII containing eugenol and anethole as major substances, both biocides showed a strong fungal activity with respectively 92.6%(inside the box) and 99.9%(outdoor) of reduction rate. Although these results didn't clarify antifungal activity of the volatile organic compounds emitted from the Paulownia-wood storage box and their functional components, it was at least confirmed that there is application possibility of natural biocide to use for preservation of ancient documents with increased efficiency in controlling pests of wooden storage boxes.
The study uses lists of wedding gifts used from old Korean documents written in Hangeul in the western Gyungnam province during the 20th century. The study analyzed four lists of wedding gifts from the Muncheongak archive and two lists from the archive of ancient document. This analysis found that clothing accounts for the majority of the items in the lists, and items such as furniture, jewelry, household goods, and medical materials were also recorded. That the furnishings were commonly prepared by the groom's side, and the fact that the number of jeogori was higher than the number of skirt, speaks to the unique wedding custom of Gyeongsang province. While the groom's list of wedding gifts included a record of the bride's ornaments, jewelry, and furnishings in the bride's list, the groom's nickel top-knot pin was only included as an ornament. In the list of wedding gifts between brothers, the gifts for the eldest son differed from those for the third son in terms of number and price. The list of wedding gifts between father and son illustrates how economic development and changing times wedding custom. The lists of wedding gifts in the old Korean documents shed light on the oral research into 20th century wedding custom, which will be used as basic data in researching and reproducting the wedding culture and life conditions of the time.
This study is about the cultural policy related to fine art under the U. S. Military Government in Korea(USAMGIK), from September 8, 1945, to August 15, 1948. Drawing on the previous studies of Korean art history in the 'Liberation Period', this study especially concentrates on intention, attitude and activities of the USAMGIK. Particularly the historical documents, stored at the National Archives at the College Park, Maryland, U.S.A., were valuable to do research on the cultural policy of USAMGIK. The cultural policy was subordinated to the political objectives of occupation that can be summarized to building a stronghold of anti-communism in South Korea. Under the U.S. Military government control, cultural matters were assigned to the Cultural Section, the Bureau of Education, which later turns into the Bureau of Culture, the Department of Education. The Bureau of Culture dealt with matters of the ancient Korean art treasures and of the Korean contemporary art. USAMGIK reopened the Korean National Museum which had been closed by the Japanese since the World War II period. After that, U.S. Department of State sent arts & monuments specialists to South Korea for investigating ancient Korean art and culture. Although some of the destructed art treasures were restored during the occupation, th ere were many negative cases including intentional destruction of historic sites or loot of art treasures by U.S. army. In contrast to their interest in the Korean antiquities, USAMGIK payed little attention to promoting the Korean contemporary artists and their arts. USAMGIK distrusted and suppressed the artists of leftism, while they kept good relations with the pro-American artists and the right-wing artists. In conclusion, the visual-cultural policy of USAMGK was mainly planned and carried out in order to preserve the national interest of the United States. This period produced long-term effects on the fine art and visual culture of South Korea, in terms of institution, policy, and reorganization of art community based on anti-cummunism.

This study aides at investigating the chang of habit in 'the Korean Catholic Womens's Religious Society' and analyzing its characteristics during the period from 1888 up to now. The research was carried out by investigating a wide range of documents including those on museums of religious society, and by considering the questionnaires and interviews on the present habit. The religious habit changed as a result of the social, cultural, and religious influence of period. The characteristics of their habit are analyzed in terms of four differnt periods as follow; (1) From the arrival of 'the Congregation of Sistersof 57 Paul de Chartres' to the year of Korean Endependence. (1888-1945) : The western style religious habit was introduced and settled later in korea by the members of forign religious society. The design of this religious halite might be originated from the mediaval times. (2) From the year of Korean Independence througt before the Vatican Council ll (1946 -1965) : Traditional habit style had been slowly modified. In this periord, ancient style coexisted with the reformed style. Also ordinary clothing style were observed in the religious society. (3) After the Vatican Council II(after 1965) : 'Decree on the up-to-date renewal of religious life'of the Vatican Council II affected strongly the traditional habile design. This led to a change from the ancient habit design to practical, modern and hygienic one. In addition, the habit was suited to the time and place as well as to the need of the apostolate. (4) Currently Situation(1996) : Mostly religious habit of korea is maintaining the style changed after the Vatican Council II. Present style is very simplyfied than the traditional one. But many religious societies make efforts for keeping the symbolic meaning of religious habit. All over the world, religious societies allowing ordinary clothes, but most korean women's religious societies still hold on religious habit.
Jeon refers to a type of Korean cuisine used as a side dish, made with various ingredients such as meat, vegetables, or fish, mixed with flour batter and coated with egg batter and then pan-fried on both sides with oil so that heat spreads through them well. The aim of this study was to provide a cornerstone of further research on Korean dietary life, by reviewing types, recipes and names of Jeon recorded in ancient cookbooks (Korean literatures) and by analyzing changes in recipes to make Jeon, which our ancestors used wisely as one type of side dish. Considering developments and changes recorded in old documents, the Jeon recipe appeared relatively later than the recipes for grilling, steaming et al, which had been developed much earlier, and it had not been recorded until the 1600s. Changes of Jeon recipes by time period are as follows. In the 1600s, there were three recipes: frying only with grain batter after preparation of ingredients, frying right after preparation of ingredients, and putting ingredients on already fried watery batter. These three recipes were still used in the 1700s, in addition to a new recipe, in which ingredients were oil-fried to be skewered. Today's recipe in which prepared ingredients are fried after getting coated with flour and egg only appeared in 1800s. This has been the main recipe for Jeon ever since. In that time period, there was more variety of recipes and ingredients than before. For instance, Jeon was used for soup or steamed dishes instead of being served as a dish itself. Buchimgae with mixed ingredients was also considered Jeon. In the 1900s, there appeared more names for Jeon as more sorts of ingredients got used, even though there were no new recipes for Jeon. The above-mentioned historical records show that traditional recipes for Jeon have been applied to various dishes, using diverse ingredients, and it might be a smart solution to today's problematic dietary habits involving excessive intake of nutrients, in that it provides a healthy way to add fat. In the same sense, the recipe for Jeon can play an active role in internationalization of Korean foods, in which healthiness is a main feature. According to ancient documents, the recipes for Jeon were used even for meals that were not side dishes, such as Jun-Gwa (Jung-Gwa), Jun-Yak and fried rice-cake. Also, there were dishes using the same recipes even without carrying the name of Jeon, like Buchim or Jijim. This might be worthy of further examination in culinary science.

Herbal medicines have been used since ancient times as medicines to treat and relieve the symptoms of many different human diseases. However, so far, relatively few herbal medicines have been evaluated scientifically to prove their safety, potential benefits and effectiveness. This study was conducted to provide the groundwork for improving the current registration regulations for herbal medicines in distinction from synthetic medicines. The study was performed based on the literature research and individual interviews with 5 experts who had extensive experience in registration of herbal medicines. When compared with synthetic drugs, herbal medicines exhibit some marked differences, namely the active principles are frequently unknown, standardization, stability and quality control are not easy, they are usually mixtures of complex compounds. Second, the current regulations for herbal medicines are reviewed by comparison of foreign regulation systems like the one in China. The regulation requirements of herbal medicine in China are in distinction from synthetic drugs. The authors conclude that new registration requirements for the herbal medicines should be changed as follows; the toxicity and efficacy data should be submitted as mixed herbal preparation and the documents and other research on the reproduction and generation toxicity need to be shown for the proof of reproduction and generation toxicity, if needed.
Design concepts of light can be divided into two respects, visual plastic and metaphysical meaning. The current research focuses on the second respect. The meaning of light is abstract characteristics(for example, divinity, spirituality, or image) ultimately expressed by visual plastic. Because it makes architectural space abundant, it have been expressed frequently in architectural space until now. The purpose of this paper is to conceptualize and explain and arrange the meanings of light in the category that have been expressed in architectural space from ancient to current. The method of this study is content analysis and case study, and this is supplement by theoretical consideration on the meaning of light(relationship between perception and meaning, elements to form meaning etc.). This study consists of three steps. Firstly, through the content analysis of existing literature and documents, 17 meanings of light are confirmed. Secondly, these 17 meanings are defined and explained in 3 categories(symbolic, esthetic, and experiential character). Thirdly, they are additionally explained and articulated by case study. In the result, various meanings of light that have been fragmentarily expressed in architectural space until now is clearly arranged at a glance. Those suggested design concepts will be basic conferential material, available to the interior designers and students who want to utilize the organised study concepts.
