  • In this paper, a novel method of minimizing the phase error is proposed. A DP-PLL system using this method is implemented and its performacnce is investigated, too. The DP-PLL system detects the phase error between reference clock and locally generated system clock. The phase difference is then reported as a PEV(Phase Error Variation), which is propoced from the delayted n-tap rising dege clock circuit with 5ns resolution in the phase detector. The algorithm is used to track the optimal DAC coefficients, which are adjusted from sample to sample in such a way as to minimize the PEV. The proposed method is found to have remarkable good potential for fast and accurate phase error tracking characteristic. The algorithm shows good performance to supress the low frequency jitter.-ending points, we design new basis functions based on the Legendre polynomial and then transform the error signals with them. When applied to synthetic images such as circles, ellipses and etc., the proposed method provides, in overall, outstanding results in respect to the transform coding gain compared with DCT and DST. And in the case when applied to natural images, the proposed method gives better image quality over DCT and comparable results with DST.

  • Error is the major problem in communication system. Absolute circuit is one of the most important building blocks to implement for the error measurement in communication system as well as in analog circuit design. The main goal of this paper is to design a circuit with high accuracy and minimum error performance. In this paper, a new current mode absolute circuit is implemented to calculate the absolute value of two signals. This new design shows enhanced performance and low distortion over the previous implementation. The proposed circuit is simulated using Hspice and implemented in analog viterbi decoder. It is very suitable for implementing in error calculation for the large scale integrated circuit. Hspice simulation results of previous and new one circuit are reported.

  • Many studies have reported that retinal defocus cause and increase refractive error specially myopia. Uncorrected astigmatism may be one factor of retinal defocus factors. To understand the relationship between myopia and astigmatism 62 college students were participated in this study. Spherical refractive error and astigmatism were measured using N-vision 5001 autorefractor (Shinnippon). Co-relations between spherical refractive error and astigmatism were high both in the with-the-rule astigmatism group(r=0.53; ANOVA F=32.40, N=87, P<0.05) and oblique astigmatism group (r=0.53ANOVA F=5.14, N=15, P<0.001). However it was very low (r=0.09; ANOVA F=0.18, N=22, P<0.001)in the against-the-rule stigmatism group. In the total group co-relation was also high (r=0.56: ANOVA F=77.80, N=173, P<0.001). Uncorrected astigmatism may cause and increase spherical refractive error.

  • Simulated annealing is an attractive, but expensive, heuristic method for approximating the solution to combinatorial optimization problems. Attempts to parallel simulated annealing, particularly on distributed memory multicomputers, are hampered by the algorithm's requirement of a globally consistent system state. In a multicomputer, maintaining the global state S involves explicit message traffic and is a critical performance bottleneck. To mitigate this bottleneck, it becomes necessary to amortize the overhead of these state updates over as many parallel state changes as possible. By using this technique, errors in the actual cost C(S) of a particular state S will be introduced into the annealing process. This paper places analytically derived bounds on this error in order to assure convergence to the correct optimal result. The resulting parallel simulated annealing algorithm dynamically changes the frequency of global updates as a function of the annealing control parameter, i.e. temperature. Implementation results on an Intel iPSC/2 are reported.

  • Many multi-modulus blind equalization algorithms (MMA) have been presented in the past to overcome the undesirable high misadjustment exhibited by the well-known constant modulus algorithm. Some of these MMA schemes, specifically tailored for quadrature amplitude modulation (QAM) constellations, have also been proved to fix the phase offset error without needing any rotator at the end of the equalizer stage. In this paper, a new multi-modulus algorithm is presented for QAM signals. The contribution lies in the technique to incorporate the sliced symbols (outcomes of decision device) in the multi-modulus-based weight adaptation process. The convergence characteristics of the proposed sliced multi-modulus algorithm (S-MMA) is demonstrated by way of simulations, and it is shown that it gives better steady-state performance in terms of residual inter-symbol interference and symbol-error rate. It has also been shown that the proposed algorithm exhibits lesser steady-state misadjustment compared to the best reported MMA.

  • Overhead cranes are the most widely used and have been identified as one of the main causes of fatal accidents. Although structural, mechanical and electrical safety standards for overhead cranes have been established to some extent, ergonomic standards related to crane controllers are rarely established. As a result, many crane accidents are reported to be caused by operator's error. To investigate the actual use of crane controllers in the industrial field, we surveyed 82 overhead cranes in 15 workplace and interviewed workers operating them. This study has presented the ergonomic problems related to the crane controllers in the field. As a result of investigation, it was found that the direction control signs, the sign language, and the button layout on the pendant switches and remote controllers are not standardized, which can cause a human error. To reduce human errors in overhead crane operation, ergonomic standards for controllers should be reflected on the government legislation or standards.

  • The economic world is full of patterns, many of which exert a profound influence over society and business. One of the most contentious is the distribution of wealth. Way back in 1897, an Italian engineer-turned-economist named Vilfredo Pareto discovered a pattern in the distribution of wealth that appears to be every bit as universal as the laws of thermodynamics or chemistry. The present paper proposes some Bayes estimators of shape parameter of Pareto income distribution in censored sampling. Asymmetric LINEX loss function has been considered to study the effects of overestimation and underestimation. For the prior distribution of the parameter involved a number of priors including one and two-parameter exponential, truncated Erlang and doubly truncated gamma have been contemplated to express the belief of the experimenter s/he has regarding the parameter. The estimators thus obtained have been compared theoretically and empirically with the corresponding estimators under squared error loss function, some of which were reported by Bhattacharya et al. (1999).

  • In this paper following Singh et al. (2008), we propose a modified ratio-product type exponential estimator to estimate the finite population mean $\={Y}$ of the study variable y in presence of non-response in different situations viz. (i) population mean $\={X}$ is known, and (ii) population mean $\={X}$ is unknown. The expressions of biases and mean squared error of the proposed estimators have been obtained under large sample approximation using single as well as double sampling. Some realistic conditions have been obtained under which the proposed estimator is more efficient than usual unbiased estimators, ratio estimators, product estimators and exponential ratio and product estimators reported by Rao (1986) and Singh et al. (2010) are found to be more efficient in many situations.

  • Even through the problem of misalignment is of great importance, not much work has been reported in the literature on the effect of misalignment on the vibrations of the gear-bearing systems. Therefore, the nonlinear dynamic characteristics of the gear drive system due to misalignment are investigated in this work. Transmission error for helical gear and bearing nonlinear stiffness is calculated. The equation of motion of the gear drive system is modelled using the time-varying gear meshing stiffness, bearing nonlinear stiffness, and bearing pre-load due to the housing deformation. Numerical analysis lot the gear drive system show the result of misalignment effect - sub-harmonic component, bearing pre-load effect, and another nonlinear phenomenon. And the numerical analysis are verified by the experimental result.

  • We developed a constant current source which is insensitive to threshold voltage variation caused by irregular grain boundary distribution in polycrystalline silicon. The proposed current source has superior saturation characteristics over wide range of input voltages as well as small current error compared to the previously reported Vth compensated sources. We measured the circuit performance and error in current due to parameter variation by using HSPICE.
