  • The doubler plate design system for the reinforcement of the ship plate members was developed considering various loads that subjected to the in-plane biaxial load, the in-plane shear load and out-of-plane load. The author summarized the accuracy of the development formula and equations through the equivalent plate thickness concept and finally introduced the new design system of doubler plate reinforcement. Through this study, it can be considered as an initial design guideline based on ship doubler plate reinforcement strength at areas without repeated load, or an initial structure analysis model for final structural design.

  • Recently, steel dampers are widely used as seismic reinforcement devices. Steel dampers have the advantage of being easy to manufacture and being able to absorb a lot of energy through stable hysteresis behavior. However, there is a possibility that the steel damper may be damaged due to fatigue caused by repeated seismic loads. In this study, the seismic performance of steel dampers and engineering plastic dampers with different physical characteristics were compared and analyzed. In addition, numerical analysis was performed on a hybrid damper that combines a steel damper and an engineering plastic damper. It is more effective to apply engineering plastic dampers to structures that experience significant displacement due to seismic loads. The behavior of hybrid dampers combining steel dampers and engineering plastic dampers is dominated by steel dampers. A hybrid damper in which an engineering plastic damper yields after a steel damper yields can effectively respond to various seismic loads and secure high ductility and excellent seismic performance.

  • The current analytical techniques for R/C elements under severe dynamic repeated loads, like earth¬quake or impact, have two major problems; one is that the effects of strain rate are not considered and the other one is the current analytical model was developed based on flexural behavior only. This study develops computer software that can idealize the flexural and shear behavior of R/C elements using several parameters and also can consider the effects of strain rate. The analytical results using the developed technique were compared with serveral experimental results and they were generally satisfied.

  • Polycarbonate (PC) materials having electrical insulation properties, are thermoplastic material and are easily processed, have excellent strength and heat resistance characteristics, and also have transparent and hard characteristics. In this study, we tried to derive the ε-N curve of strain-life, which shows the relationship between the strain characteristics and the life of the material when repeated impact loads are applied to the PC plastic material. As the impact load increased to 3.0kg, 4.0kg, 5.0kg, and 6.0kg, the strain also increased linearly to 0.033, 0.041, 0.046, and 0.055. At 3.0kg of mass impact, the test piece broke with 12000 impact cycles, 8400 times at 3.5kg, 7400 times at 4.0kg, 6600 times at 4.5kg, 4700 times at 5.0kg, 3000 times at 5.5kg, and 1000 times at 6.0kg. The number of fractures exponentially decreased as the load gradually increased. Using these results, an ε-N curve for PC plastic was derived.

  • The behavior of clays subjected to Repeated loading has been shown to be very different from the behavior under a single load application. Especially the behavior of pore water pressure is Qf considerable importance. The objective of this work is to experimentally study the stress-strain characteristics of clays, and this study includes the pore water pressure which is built up during the load repetition. For this study, the samples were consolidated isotropically in the triaxial cell during 24 hours, .and monotonic strain controlled triaxial test is carried out by uslng the tests of Compression failure, Cycled at failure, and Nonfailure equilibrium on remoulded samples under undrained .condition . Consequently there exists a critical level of repeated loading which seperates the behavior of a particular sample into two distinctly different patterns.

  • The article examines the impact response of the sandwich beam furnished by a novel bilayer core as inspired by the woodpecker's head architecture under different repeatedly exerted low-velocity impact loadings by employing the finite element package, ABAQUS. The sandwich beam forms four essential parts comprising bottom and top carbon fiber reinforced polymer laminates encasing bilayer core made of laterally arched solid hot melt adhesive material and aluminum honeycomb. Impact loadings are implemented repeatedly with a steel hemisphere impactor for various impact energies, 7.28 J, 9.74 J, and 12.63 J. Essentially, the commonly concentrated stresses at the impact region are regulated away by the arched core in all considered cases thus reducing the threat of failure. The sandwich beam can resist up to 5 continual impacts at 7.28 J and 9.74 J but only up to 3 times repeated loads at 12.63 J before visible failure is noticed. In the examination of several key impact performance indicators under numerous loading cases, the proposed beam demonstrates favorably up to 1.3-11.2 higher impact resistance efficacies compared to existing designs, therefore displaying an improvement in repeated impact resistance of the new design.

  • This study was performed to compare the muscle activity of lumbar stabilizers between stoop and semi-squat lifting techniques at different lifting loads. Twenty healthy subjects (9 males, 11 females) were recruited for this study. Muscle activity of external obliques (EO), internal obliques (IO) and lumbar multifidus (LM) muscle was measured by surface electromyography during stoop and semi-squat lifting at different lifting loads (10%, 20%, and 30% of the subject's body weight). A one-way repeated measure ANOVA was applied. The results showed that EMG activity of EO was significantly increased with a load of 30% of body weight compared to 10% and 20% of body weight in both lifting techniques (p<.05). Muscle activity of LM was significantly increased in 20% compared to 10% and 30% compared to 10% of subject's body weight in stoop lifting and the muscle activity of LM was significantly increased in 20% compared to 10%, 30% compared to 20%, and 30% compared to 10% of the subject's body weight in semi-squat lifting (p<.05). However, there was no significant difference in activity of IO according to lifting loads in both lifting techniques. There were no significant differences in muscle activity of EO, IO, and LM between stoop and semi-squat technique (p>.05). Therefore, the results of this study suggested that the EO can contribute to increase the lumbar stability during stoop and semi-squat lifting at 30% of body weight rather than at lower loads, and the LM seems to act as counteractor to imposed loads during stoop and semi-squat lifting with increasing loads.

  • The main objective of this study is to investigate the time-dependent deformation of EPS blocks under repeated loading conditions which is the one of the flexible pavement structure. The study comprised of both the experimental work and analytical modeling in order to understand the behavior of EPS blocks under repeated loading. The analytical modeling included the selection of a suitable model for describing the deformation behavior observed under repeated loading conditions, investigating the relationship among the unit weight, deformation and applied stress, analyzing the effect of repeated load on deformation. The test results were compared with the Findley's theory and model analysis with the results of this research under repeated loading conditions. Both Modified Findley's model and the proposed model can be adopted to illustrate the deformation behavior of EPS blocks under repeated loads.

  • The object of this paper is to study the general characteristics of overconsolidated silty clays subjected to repeated loading. The samples are first remolded. overconsolidated and a series of strain - controlled triaxial repeated tests are carried out. Generally the relationship of deviator stress - axial strain of overconsolidated clay is similar in pattern to the normally consolidated clay under single load. But the behavior of the pore water pressure build up in the sample subjected to repeated loading is dependent upon the consolidation history and the level of repeated stress. Therefore through the series of the tests, the characteristics of stress -strain relationship of soils which are differentlly overconsolidated are investigated, analysed and then compared with each soils. And also, from the relationship of test results, the strength and strain characteristics of soils are obierved. The equilibrium lines which presents the critical repeated stress and equilibrium state in the sample under repeated loading, are often straight, but may be curved. And the tendency of the equilibrium lines is observed as to the variation of overconsolidation ratio.

  • A currently used roof green system with multi layers has a low constructability. Therefore a new integrated waterproof & root barrier sheet and roof green box unit system was developed using steel plate fixture and cone type fixture by electromagnetic induction heating method. This study was proceeded to evaluate adhesion performance of two types of fixtures on Engineering PE, TPO, PVC sheet in a normal condition, repeated heating and cooling condition. As a result, adhesion load on Engineering PE sheet showed the highest value. The adhesion loads of steel plate fixture showed higher value as heating temperature was getting higher. However adhesion loads of cone type fixture showed opposite tendency. Regarding to the test conditions, test results of normal condition, repeated heating and cooling condition showed same value. The cone type fixture using butyl tape showed 7 times lower adhesion load than that of cone type fixture using electromagnetic heating and 28% lower adhesion load in a repeated heating and cooling condition than a usual condition.
