  • This paper develops a warranty cost model for complex systems with imperfect repair within a warranty period by addressing a practical case that the first inter-failure interval is longer than any other inter-failure intervals. The product is in its best condition before the first failure if repair is imperfect. After the imperfect repair, other inter-failure intervals which are explained by renewal processes, are stochastically smaller than the first inter-failure interval. Based on this idea, we suggest the failure-interval-failure-criterion model. In this model, we consider two random variables, X and Y where X represents failure intervals and Y represents failure criterion. We also obtain the distribution of the number of failures and conduct the warranty cost analysis. We investigate different types of warranty cost models, reliabilities and other measures for various systems including series-parallel configurations. Several numerical examples are discussed to demonstrate the applicability of the methodologies derived in the paper.

  • This article is concerned with cost analysis in stepdown warranty policy. The repair of item is divided into two policies. First, perfect repair can be considered that the failurerate is the same as new item. Second, minimal repair is shown that the failurerate is the same as just before the item failure In this paper, the minimal repair model is introduced. And it is assumed that manufacturers repair the item failure within the warranty periodn. But warranty period is not renewed at all. At this point the warranty cost is analyzed in manufacturer's and customer's point of view.

  • Jung et al.(2015) suggest the two-phase warranty model, which is a general type of warranty model. Under the two-phase warranty, the warranty period is divided into two intervals, one of which is for renewing replacement warranty, and the other is for minimal repair warranty. And warranty policies play a very important role in product marketing. In this paper, we suggest the optimal warranty policy for free extended two-phase warranty. To determine the optimal warranty period, we adopt the expected profit per unit product. So, the expressions for the total expected cost, the sale price and the expected profit per unit product from the manufacturer's point of view are derived. Also, we discuss the optimal warranty period and the numerical examples are provided to illustrate the proposed the warranty policy.

  • In this paper, cost analysis is conducted using inter-failure interval under renewable warranty subject to imperfect repair for multi-component system. One way to model the imperfect repair is to use the quasi-renewal process (Wang and Pham 1996). Two alternative quasi-renewal processes were suggested by Park and Pham (2010) using quasi-renewal process; first is an altered quasi-renewal process with random variable parameter and second is a mixed quasi-renewal process considering replacement service and repair service, simultaneously. In this study, we use the altered and mixed quasi-renewal processes and develop the warranty cost model to obtain the expected value of warranty cost and to help company make important decisions regarding the warranty policy. Numerical examples are used to demonstrate the applicability of the methodology derived in the paper.

  • In this paper, we determine the expected total cost from the user's perspective for the replacement model with the extended warranty when minimal repair cost is a function of failure time. To do so, we define the extended warranty and assume the replacement model following the expiration of extended warranty from the user's perspective. Especially, we propose the criterion to buy the extended warranty and the numerical examples are presented to illustrate the purpose when the failure time of the system has a Weibull distribution.

  • Under the two-phase warranty, the warranty period is divided into two intervals, one of which is for renewing replacement warranty, and the other is for minimal repair warranty. Jung[13] discusses the two types of extended two-phase warranty models. In this paper, we suggest the replacement model after the extended two-phase warranty that has been proposed by Jung[13]. To determine the optimal replacement policy, we adopt the expected cost rate per unit time. So, the expressions for the total expected cost, the expected length of the cycle and the expected cost rate per unit time from the user's point of view are derived. Also, we discuss the optimal replacement policy and the uniqueness of the solution for the optimization. Furthermore, the numerical examples are provided to illustrate the proposed the replacement model.

  • This paper proposes an optimal replacement policy following the expiration of a free renewing replacement-non-renewing minimal repair warranty. To do so, the free renewing replacement-non-renewing minimal repair warranty is defined and then the maintenance model following the expiration of free renewing replacement-non-renewing minimal repair warranty from the user's point of view is studied. As the criteria to determine the optimality of the maintenance policy, we consider the expected cost rate per unit time from the user's perspective. We derive the expressions for the expected cycle length and the expected total cost to obtain the expected cost rate per unit time. Finally, the numerical examples are presented for illustrative purposes.

  • In this paper, we consider the periodic preventive maintenance model for a repairable system following the expiration of replacement-repair warranty. Under this preventive maintenance model, we derive the expressions for the expected cycle length, the expected total cost and the expected cost rate per unit time. Also, we determine the optimal preventive maintenance period and the optimal preventive maintenance number by minimizing the expected cost rate per unit time. Finally, the optimal periodic preventive maintenance policy is given for Weibull distribution case.

  • In this paper, we consider a replacement model following the expiration of warranty. In other words, this paper proposes the optimal replacement policy for a repairable system following the expiration of payable renewing replacement-non-renewing minimal repair warranty. The expected cost rate per unit time from the user's perspective is used to determine the optimality of the replacement policy. Thus, we derive the expressions for the expected cycle length and the expected total cost to obtain the expected cost rate per unit time. Finally, the numerical examples are presented for illustrative purpose.

  • This paper is concerned with the question of servicing warranties for repairable items. During the warranty period, each time an item fails the manufacturer has the obligation to restore the item to operational condition either by repairing the item or by replacing it with a new item. In this paper, we consider repair-replacement strategies based on the condition of the failed item. For products with phase-type lifetime distributions where the phases represent the condition of the item, we develop algorithms to determine the expected cost of servicing a warranty and use it in making the repair-replacement decision. Illustrative numerical examples are presented. We also propose a dynamic strategy by taking the expected remaining warranty cost into consideration.
