In this paper, we propose and apply new classification method to the remotely sensed image acquired from airborne multi-spectral scanner. This is a neuro-fuzzy image classifier derived from the generic model of a 3-layer fuzzy perceptron. We implement a classification software system with the proposed method for land cover image classification. Comparisons with the proposed and maximum-likelihood classifiers are also presented. The results show that the neuro-fuzzy classification method classifies more accurately than the maximum likelihood method. In comparing the maximum-likelihood classification map with the neuro-fuzzy classification map, it is apparent that there is more different as amount as 7.96% in the overall accuracy. Most of the differences are in the "Building" and "Pine tree", for which the neuro-fuzzy classifier was considerably more accurate. However, the "Bare soil" is classified more correctly with the maximum-likelihood classifier rather than the neuro-fuzzy classifier.

This paper discusses the effectiveness of using Landsat 8 TIR (Thermal Infrared) band images to improve the accuracy of landuse/landcover classification of urban areas. According to classification results for the study area using diverse band combinations, the classification accuracy using an image fusion process in which the TIR band is added to the visible and near infrared band was improved by 4.0%, compared to that using a band combination that does not consider the TIR band. For urban area landuse/landcover classification in particular, the producer’s accuracy and user’s accuracy values were improved by 10.2% and 3.8%, respectively. When MLC (Maximum Likelihood Classification), which is commonly applied to remote sensing images, was used, the TIR band images helped obtain a higher discriminant analysis in landuse/landcover classification.
This study is to present a standardized scheme for providing agriculture-related information at various spatial resolutions of satellite images including LANDSAT +ETM, KOMPSAT-1 EOC, ASTER VNIR and IKONOS panchromatic (Pan) and multi-spectral (M/S) images. The satellite images were interpreted especially for identifying agricultural areas, crop types, agricultural facilities and structures. The results were compared with the land cover/land use classification system suggested by Ministry of Construction & Transportation based on NGIS (National Geographic Information System) and Ministry of Environment based on satellite remote sensing data. The results by IKONOS image will be provided to KOMPSAT-2 project for agricultural application.

LiDAR technology is a combination of laser ranging, satellite positioning technology and digital image technology for study and determination with high accuracy of the true earth surface features in 3 D. Laser scanning data is typically a points cloud on the ground, including coordinates, altitude and intensity of laser from the object on the ground to the sensor (Wehr & Lohr, 1999). Data from laser scanning can produce products such as digital elevation model (DEM), digital surface model (DSM) and the intensity data. In Vietnam, the LiDAR technology has been applied since 2005. However, the application of LiDAR in Vietnam is mostly for topological mapping and DEM establishment using point cloud 3D coordinate. In this study, another application of LiDAR data are present. The study use the intensity image combine with some other data sets (elevation data, Panchromatic image, RGB image) in Bacgiang City to perform land cover classification using neural network method. The results show that it is possible to obtain land cover classes from LiDAR data. However, the highest accurate classification can be obtained using LiDAR data with other data set and the neural network classification is more appropriate approach to conventional method such as maximum likelyhood classification.
This study proposed an unsupervised image classification through the dendrogram of agglomerative clustering as a higher stage of image segmentation in image processing. The proposed algorithm is a hierarchical clustering which includes searching a set of MCSNP (Mutual Closest Spectral Neighbor Pairs) based on the data structures of RAG(Regional Adjacency Graph) defined on spectral space and Min-Heap. It also employes a multi-window system in spectral space to define the spectral adjacency. RAG is updated for the change due to merging using RNV (Regional Neighbor Vector). The proposed algorithm provides a dendrogram which is a graphical representation of data. The hierarchical relationship in clustering can be easily interpreted in the dendrogram. In this study, the proposed algorithm has been extensively evaluated using simulated images and applied to very large QuickBird imagery acquired over an area of Korean Peninsula. The results have shown it potentiality for the application of remotely-sensed imagery.

The advantage of the remote sensing is extraction the information of wide area rapidly. Such advantage is the resource and environment are quick and efficient method to grasps accurately method through the land cover classification of wide area. Accordingly this study is used to the high-resolution (6.6m) Electro-Optical Camera (EOC) panchromatic image of the first Korea Multi-Purpose Satellite 1 (KOMPSAT-1) and the multi-spectral Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) image data(36 bands). We accomplished FCM classification technique with MLC technique to be general land cover classification method in the content of research. And evaluated the accuracy assessment of two classification method.
In general, neural networks are widely used for the category classification of multispectral images. Since the input multispectral images into neural networks we, however, low contrast images, neural networks converge very slowly and are of bad performance. To overcome this problem, we propose a new image enhancement method which consists of smoothing process, finding the main valley and enhancement process. In addition the enhanced images by the proposed method are used as the input of neural networks for the category classification. When the new category classification method is applied to multispectral LANDSAT TM images, we verified that the neural networks converge very lastly and that the overall category classification performance is improved.
The availability of high-resolution satellite images provides precise information without direct observation of the research target. Korea Multi-Purpose Satellite (KOMPSAT), also known as the Arirang satellite, has been developed and utilized for earth observation. The machine learning model was continuously proven as a good classifier in classifying remotely sensed images. This study aimed to compare the performance of the support vector machine (SVM) model in classifying the land cover of the Delaware River port area on high and medium-resolution images. Three optical images, which are KOMPSAT-2, KOMPSAT-3A, and Sentinel-2B, were classified into six land cover classes, including water, road, vegetation, building, vacant, and shadow. The KOMPSAT images are provided by Korea Aerospace Research Institute (KARI), and the Sentinel-2B image was provided by the European Space Agency (ESA). The training samples were manually digitized for each land cover class and considered the reference image. The predicted images were compared to the actual data to obtain the accuracy assessment using a confusion matrix analysis. In addition, the time-consuming training and classifying were recorded to evaluate the model performance. The results showed that the KOMPSAT-3A image has the highest overall accuracy and followed by KOMPSAT-2 and Sentinel-2B results. On the contrary, the model took a long time to classify the higher-resolution image compared to the lower resolution. For that reason, we can conclude that the SVM model performed better in the higher resolution image with the consequence of the longer time-consuming training and classifying data. Thus, this finding might provide consideration for related researchers when selecting satellite imagery for effective and accurate image classification.
This research uses high-resolution satellite images as a source of collecting farmland information. For effectively extract the paddy area, we use texture information and different classify methods to assist the satellite image classification. First, using maximum likelihood classifier to extract paddy information from images. The results show that User Accuracy and Procedure Accuracy of the paddy area can increase from 80.60% to 95.45% and 84.38% to 95.45%. Second, establishing a paddy Knowledge Base and using Knowledge Base Classifier to extract paddy area, and result shows the User Accuracy and Producer Accuracy to be 92.16% and 90.06%. Finally, The result shows we can effectively contribute to the paddy field information extraction from high-resolution satellite images.

Hyperspectral image data have great potential to depict more detailed information on biophysical characteristics of surface materials, which are not usually available with multispectral data. This study aims to test the potential of hyperspectral data for classifying five soil classes defined by the vector product interim terrain data (VITD). In this study, we try to classify surface materials of bare soil over the study area in Korea using both hyperspectral and multispectral image data. Training and test samples for classification are selected with using VITD vector map. The spectral angle mapper (SAM) method is applied to the EO-I Hyperion data and Landsat ETM+ data, that has been radiometrically corrected and geo-rectified. Higher classification accuracy is obtained with the hyperspectral data for classifying five soil classes of gravel, evaporites, inorganic silt and sand.
