  • Recently, the research which concerns the object class recognition has been done. Although an object tracking based on most of histograms employs a colored model to improve robustness, the system is not reliable enough yet. In this paper, we presents a method to express and track an object by using the histograms which are composed with visual features through successive frames. The experimental results shows that this method is reliable to track a car within 80m distance from camera.

  • This paper studies if the accuracies of mortality models (LC model vs. 4-parametric model) are aggravated if a mortality structure changes due to the impact of COVID-19. LC model (LCM) uses dimension reduction for fitting to the log mortality matrix so that the performance of the dimension reduction method may not be good when the matrix structure changes. On the other hand, 4-parametric factor model (4-PFM) is designed to use factors for fitting to log mortality data by age groups so that it would be less affected by the change of the mortality structure. In fact, the forecast accuracies of LCM are better than those of 4-PFM when life-tables are used whereas those of 4-PFM are better when the mortality structure changes. Thus this result shows that 4-PFM is more reliable in performance to the structural changes of the mortality. To support the accuracy changes of LCM the functional aspect is explained by computing eigenvalues produced by singular vector decomposition

  • In this paper, an orthogonal frequency division multiple access (OFDMA)-based minimum end-to-end delay (MED) distributed routing scheme for mobile backhaul wireless mesh networks is proposed. The proposed scheme selects routing paths based on OFDMA subcarrier synchronization control, subcarrier availability, and delay. In the proposed scheme, OFDMA is used to transmit frames between mesh routers using type-I hybrid automatic repeat request over multipath Rayleigh fading channels. Compared with other distributed routing algorithms, such as most forward within radius R, farthest neighbor routing, nearest neighbor routing, and nearest with forwarding progress, simulation results show that the proposed MED routing can reduce end-to-end delay and support highly reliable routing using only local information of neighbor nodes.

  • Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute (ETRI) developed the Ka-band satellite communications payload. This system is able to provide a high data rate communication service with a bandwidth of 200 MHz, a wideband digital flunking services up to 155 Mbps and asymmetrical internet multimedia service. The system employs the common receive/transmit antenna and the 2-for-1 redundant scheme for the LNA-Downconverters. The different types of high power amplification, TWTA for one chain and SSPA for the other chain, are used lot the variety of experimental options. For the reliable test of the payload, EGSE was also developed. The parametric RF tests were carried out in order to measure the performance of Ka-band communication subsystem, in most case the results of RF performance test complied the payload requirement.

  • The AODV protocol uses many RREQ messages and one RREP message in the path-discovery process. This protocol has only one metric, the number of hops. Although it is simple, this protocol is not efficient. To avoid this problem, we propose a new AODV with two auxiliary metrics (AuM-2-AODV). The AuM-2-AODV protocol tries multiple route replies, which reduces the chance of path failure and helps the network obtain a better data rate. It has two auxiliary metrics, the remaining energy of its nodes and the number of HELLO messages received at the nodes. With these two metrics, the reliable path from the source node to the destination node will be chosen. In this paper, the performance of the AuM-2-AODV is evaluated using the NS-3 simulator. The performance results show that AuM-2-AODV provides greater throughput and packet delivery ratio by 20% and up to 50% and about 100% in some cases, respectively, than previous protocols.

  • A radiation analysis is performed for the Ka and Ku-band transponder of the Communications and Broadcasting Satellite (CBS) that is planned for launch into the geo-synchronous orbit. A particular attention is given to calculation of Total Ionizing Dose (TID) for the mission life time of 15 + 3 years. A numerical modeling of the charged particles at the geo-synchronous orbit is undertaken. The charged particles from the modeling are then transported through the mechanical structure and component housings of the transponder. A set of locations are selected for the detailed calculation of TID. The results from the present calculation show that three-dimensional modeling of the component housings as well as the mechanical structure of the spacecraft is requisite in order to acquire a reliable calculation of TID.

  • Moored ocean buoys are technically feasible approach for making sustained time series observation in the oceans and will be an important component of any long-term ocean observing system. The 3M disc buoy carried Zeno 3200, MCCB, Orbcomm, Global Star and Bluetooth module. The deployments have relied on Orbcomm and Global Star as the primary satellite communications system. In addition to detailing our practical experience in the use of Orbcomm and Global Star as high latitudes, we will present some of scientific sensor results regarding real-time oceanographic and meteorological parameters such as wind speed, wave height and etc. In this paper we present the design and implementation of a small-scale buoy sensor network. One of the major challenges is that the network is hard to access after its deployment and hence both hardware and software must be robust and reliable.

  • We have developed Ethernet based real-time communication systems called "Vnet/IP" for DCS which is the control system for process automation. This paper describes the features and the technologies of the ASIC which is utilized in the communication interface hardware for Vnet/IP. Vnet/IP has been developed for mission-critical communications. Hence it has real-time feature, high reliability and precise time synchronization capability. At the same time, it is able to deal with standard protocols without influence on mission-critical communications. The communication interface hardware has a host interface and dual redundant network interfaces. The host interface can be chosen PCI-bus or R-bus which is the proprietary internal bus developed for the high reliable redundant controller. Each network interface is a RJ45 connection with 1Gbps maximum in compliance with IEEE802.3.

  • Short range communications between road-side equipments and on-board equipment is very important for ITS(intelligent Transport System). Roadside communication is for short range communication, and needs performance of high data bit rate and should support the function for very short term communication. In addition to it, a radio propagation characteristics is very different according to a road environment. In this paper, for reliable roadside communication, the radio multi-path propagation profile at roadside is measured and the characteristics is analyzed.
