Study of Smart Vehicle Seat for Real-time Driver Posture Monitoring (운전자 자세 실시간 모니터링이 가능한 스마트 자동차 시트 연구)

  • In recent years, the increasing interest in health-care requires the industrial products to be well-designed ergonomically. In the commercial vehicle industry, several researchers have demonstrated the driver's posture has great effect on the orthopedic desease such as fatigue, back pain, scoliosis, and so on. However, the existing sensor systems developed for measuring the driver posture in real time have suffered from inaccuracy and low reliability issues. Here, we suggest our smart vehicle seat system capable of real-time driver posture monitoring by using the air bag sensor package with high sensitivity and reliability. The ergonomic numerical model which can evaluate a driver's posture has been developed on the basis of the human body segmentation method followed by simulation-based validation. Our experimental analysis of obtained pressure distribution of a vehicle seat under the different driver's postures revealed our smart vehicle system successfully achieved the driver's real-time posture data in great agreement with our numerical model.

System Reliability-Based Design Optimization Using Performance Measure Approach (성능치 접근법을 이용한 시스템 신뢰도 기반 최적설계)

  • Structural design requires simultaneously to ensure safety by considering quantitatively uncertainties in the applied loadings, material properties and fabrication error and to maximize economical efficiency. As a solution, system reliability-based design optimization (SRBDO), which takes into consideration both uncertainties and economical efficiency, has been extensively researched and numerous attempts have been done to apply it to structural design. Contrary to conventional deterministic optimization, SRBDO involves the evaluation of component and system probabilistic constraints. However, because of the complicated algorithm for calculating component reliability indices and system reliability, excessive computational time is required when the large-scale finite element analysis is involved in evaluating the probabilistic constraints. Accordingly, an algorithm for SRBDO exhibiting improved stability and efficiency needs to be developed for the large-scale problems. In this study, a more stable and efficient SRBDO based on the performance measure approach (PMA) is developed. PMA shows good performance when it is applied to reliability-based design optimization (RBDO) which has only component probabilistic constraints. However, PMA could not be applied to SRBDO because PMA only calculates the probabilistic performance measure for limit state functions and does not evaluate the reliability indices. In order to overcome these difficulties, the decoupled algorithm is proposed where RBDO based on PMA is sequentially performed with updated target component reliability indices until the calculated system reliability index approaches the target system reliability index. Through a mathematical problem and ten-bar truss problem, the proposed method shows better convergence and efficiency than other approaches.

  • Marine casuality causes not only loss of lives and ships, but also severs damages to marine environment and related economic activities such as fishing industry, sea farming, and tourist industry. Basically, the great effort should be made to prevent the occurrence of maritime accidents by any means. However, once accident has occurred, the salvage works should be done rapidly and properly based on theoretical and technical informations, which could minimize the risk during salvage operation and the overall damage from the maritime accidents. Generally, to calculate accurate hydrostatics of a stranded ship, a large amount of input data is needed. But, an availability and a reliability of input data cannot be guaranteed in most situations, and the adequate time required for preparing all input data is not allowed to perform the timely operations of salvage. In this paper, the development process of simple computer program for salvage operation using limited input data is introduced and its application example is presented. This program was developed to provide technical support for planning salvage operations in the grounding accident.

  • In this paper, in order to reduce the electrical disaster such as electrical fire at traditional markets, we need to develop the ESMS(electrical safety monitoring system) which is able to monitor the power status of electrical equipments. Therefore, for solving the those problems, we developed the detection censor(ZCT, CT) and equipment of data analysis and transmission. The detection censor and equipment are able to monitor the electrical equipments condition(over current, leakage current, arc, etc.). We constructed Test-Bed for testing reliability of the ESMS and obtained certification. And we tested the over current, leakage current and arc under the normal condition.

  • As the loss from break-downs and errors, which became more frequent with the growth of elaborateness, complexity and in scale of the plant and equipments, are enormous, the improvement in the reliability, maintenance, safety, and qualify become to have interest. The fault diagnosis is a systematic and unified method to find errors, which is based on the interpretation that data, subconsciously, have noises. But, as most of the methods are inferences based on binomial logic, the uncertainty is not correctly reflected. In this study, we suggest, to manage the uncertainty in the system efficiently on the point of predictive maintenance, We should use fuzzy expert system, which make the decision considering uncertainty possible by taking linguistical variable and fixed quantity by using the fuzzy theory concepts on the basis of an expert's direct observation and experience.

  • Since urban railway transit is one of the most essential transportation systems, its power facilities must ensure high reliability and safety. Currently, urban railway operating organizations perform TBM (Time Based Maintenance) on power facilities. However, in order to improve management efficiency and system safety, CBM (Condition Based Maintenance) is preferred. Among various power facilities, mold transformers has been chosen as the object of study since it is widely used for the purpose of minimizing volume and weight, and due to safety against fire. In this paper, various transformer failure cases due to electric, thermal, mechanical and environmental factors have been collected and analyzed. In addition, investigation on national and international condition based maintenance cases and the characteristics of sensors widely used for transformer monitoring has been performed to suggest the optimal condition based maintenance technique for urban railway systems.

  • In this paper, a real time monitoring and management system being operated in the ubiquitous environment was developed to monitor leakage current, load current, and arc-fault, and an electrical safety network for reasonable management of electrical risk factor was proposed. For confirmation of usefulness and reliability of the proposed safety network and system, the developed intelligent panels were applied to 28 Korean traditional houses in Jeonjoo city, and the network including the panels was operated. If the National Electrical Safety Network is completely constructed in the houses of general electrical users, the network will have an effect on that a main manager transfers from general people to expert. As a result, the electrical fires caused by an over-load, an arc-fault, and an earth-fault will be prevented.

  • The bogie of Rolling Stock is the basic rolling component. It operates the train body, guides the body considering various tracks and offers comfort to passengers. We can verify the safety level of bogie about all factors through the first -grade scenario of Preliminary Hazard Analysis, but especially the horizontal acceleration sensor, equipped in each power bogie and trailer bogie, is the device, which makes it possible to test bogie instability and uncomfortable body movements by the method, similar to actual train driving, and in this context the necessity of this device becomes important. This paper would classify the main functions of driving sub system and examine the reliability, availability, maintainability and safety, which are main factors of RAMS. Especially, we would realize the bogie instability sensor with a simulator and offer the content in analyzing the data by the statistical method, which are obtained through the connected test with OBCS.

  • The recently-developed automated vessels require a system which evaluates the operating condition of the ship at present position form weather information as well as sensors; forecasts the operation condition the sea state to come in foreseeable future ; and suggests the optimum course and speed for ship's sa-fety.
