Salt wedge into the river from the sea or fresh water flume (fresh wedge) in the ocean from the sea has density current characteristics. However, when temperature and salinity simultaneously determine the density of wedges, one of salinity and temperature can distributed in the reversed profiles against gravity, even though the density profile is stable. In this case, the double diffusive process is critical in determining mixing rate. The present work studies relative contribution of shear driven mechanical mixing component and double diffusive layering process, when warm salty denser water is introduced into the cold fresh lighter water column. Laboratory experiment releases warm salty denser water into cold fresh lighter water controlling discharge amount to achieve the steady state of density current. When longitudinal density rate becomes 15, the released amount ratio of salt and heat changes sharply and in the releasing point, vigorous mixing occurs with increase of discharged amount due to double diffusion. Double diffusion distabilizes gravitational stability and enhances the mixing rate up to $6{\times}10$ times at the lower density ratio comparing to the higher density ratio.
The purpose of this study was to analyzed body movement of the right and left directions relative to stance width. Seven college students(male, height $174.9{\pm}4.8cm$, weight $70.9{\pm}6.6kg$) participated in this study. For the purpose of this study, nine high-speed cameras and two force plates was utilized. Stance width was limited into small stance width(mean 42.9cm) and large stance width(mean 65cm). The results showed that (1) the small stance width took shorter time than the large stance during landing of the right feet to toe-off; (2) the small stance width was took longer movement of the right feet after split step comparing to the large stance; (3)there was no significant difference in the speed of center of gravity between toe-off and maximum speed; (4) the small stance width was greater angles to hip joint and knee joint during toe-off of the right feet comparing to the large stance; (5) the was no significant difference in values for force plates between the small stance and the large stance width during toe-off of the right feet.

In this study, Mg-Zn alloys are investigated in terms of their thermal properties after an addition of Cu. Al element is added to improve the mechanical properties and castability in general case. However, it was excluded here because it significantly decreases the thermal conductivity. On the other hand, Zn was added as a major element, which had less influence on reducing the conductivity and can complement the mechanical properties as well. Cu was also added, and it improved the heat transfer characteristics as the amount was increased. The composition ranges of Zn and Cu are 6 wt.% and 0~1.5 wt.%, respectively. Mg-6Zn-xCu alloy was prepared by a gravity casting method using a steel mold and then the thermal conductivity and the microstructure of the as-cast material were investigated. By measuring the density_(${\rho}$), specific heat_(Cp) and thermal diffusivity_(${\alpha}$), the thermal conductivity_(${\lambda}$) was calculated by the equation ${\lambda}={\rho}{\cdot}Cp{\cdot}{\alpha}$. As the amount of Cu increased in the Mg-6Zn-xCu alloy, the heat transfer characteristics were improved, resulting in a synergistic effect which is slow when the added Cu exceeds 1 wt.%. In order to investigate the relative thermal conductivity/emission of the Mg-6Zn-xCu alloy, AZ91 and AZ31 were experimentally evaluated and compared using a separate test equipment. As a result, the Mg-6Zn-1.5Cu alloy when compared to AZ91 showed improvements in the thermal conductivity ranging from 30 to 60% with a nearly 20% improvement in the thermal emission.
This paper is an experimental and numerical research works about the effects of the b earing capacity of sloped rubble mound on the density of rubble mound and the position of footing. Centrifuge model tests were performed to investigate the bearing capacity of rubble m ound by changing the density of rubble mound and the location of loading in forms of s trip loading to simulate the caisson. Materials of rubble mound used in the model tests were crushed rocks having similar value of uniformity coefficient to the value in field. Two different relative densities of 80% and 90% were prepared during tests. The dimens ions of centrifuge model were trapezoidal shape of model mound having the bottom wid th of mound, 30cm and height of mound, 10cm. Gravity level applied during the centrif uge test was 50G. Surcharge loading in the forms of strip loading was applied on the t op of the sloped model mound. Tests were carried out by changing the position of loadi ng. The rigid model footing was located in the center of top of the model rubble mound and the edge of model footing was at the crest of mound. Test results were analyzed by using the limit equilibrium methods proposed by Meyer hof(1957) and Bowles(1982) and the numerical approach with FLAC being available com mercially software. For the numerical estimations with FLAC, the rubble mound was si mulated with the constitutive relationship of Mohr-Coulomb elasto-plastic model.

The quest to reduce the level of overdependence on fossil fuel product and to provide all required information on proven existing alternatives for renewable energy has resulted into rapid growth of research globally to identify efficient alternative renewable energy sources and the process technologies that are sustainable and environmentally friendly. The present study is aimed at production and characterization of bioethanol produced from sugarcane juice using a $2^4$ factorial design investigating the effect of four parameters (reaction temperature, time, concentration of bacteria used and amount of substrate). The optimum bioethanol yield of 19.3% was achieved at a reaction temperature of $30^{\circ}C$, time of 72 hours, yeast concentration of 2 g and 300 g concentration of substrate (sugarcane juice). The result of statistical analysis of variance shows that the concentration of yeast had the highest effect of 7.325 and % contribution of 82.72% while the substrate concentration had the lowest effect and % contribution of -0.25 and 0.096% respectively. The bioethanol produced was then characterized for some fuel properties such as flash point, specific gravity, cloud point, pour point, sulphur content, acidity, density and kinematic viscosity. The results of bioethanol characterization conform to American society for testing and materials (ASTM) standard. Hence, sugarcane juice is a good and sustainable feedstock for bioethanol production in Nigeria owing relative abundance, cheap source of supply and available land for large scale production.
This results concerning the growth of transplanting of the oyster seed, Crassostrea angulata and Ostrea Iurida, which were transplanted from Japan by air, and cultivated by the raft suspended method at the coast of Yeongoo-Ri, Koje-Goon, located on the southern coast of Korea from January to December 1970, are as follows, 1. The mean shell height of O. lurida was 36.4mm, and the shape of the shell was round and small. On the other hand, the mean shell height of C. angulata was 87.4mm and the shell length was 52.3mm, and the shape of the shell was oval and large, 2. O. lurida and C. angulata oysters grew well when the water temperature was above $16^{\circ}C$ and the specific gravity ranged from 1.0171 to 1.0236 from June to July. 3. There was a little difference in relative valiance between shell length and height of O, lurida but significant difference was shown in C. angulata from July to November. 4. The mortality rate of O. lurida was $35.2\%$ and that of C. angulata was $21.7\%$ respectively.

The nonlinear seismic responses of steel buildings with perimeter moment resisting frames (PMRF) and interior gravity frames (IGF) are estimated, modeling the interior connections first as perfectly pinned (PPC), and then as partially restrained (PRC). Two 3D steel building models, twenty strong motions and three levels of the PRC rigidity, which are represented by the Richard Model and the Beam Line Theory, are considered. The RUAUMOKO Computer Program is used for the required time history nonlinear dynamic analysis. The responses can be significantly reduced when interior connections are considered as PRC, confirming what observed in experimental investigations. The reduction significantly varies with the strong motion, story, model, structural deformation, response parameter, and location of the structural element. The reduction is larger for global than for local response parameters; average reductions larger than 30% are observed for shears and displacements while they are about 20% for bending moments. The reduction is much larger for medium- than for low-rise buildings indicating a considerable influence of the structural complexity. It can be concluded that, the effect of the dissipated energy at PRC should not be neglected. Even for connections with relative small stiffness, which are usually idealized as PPC, the reduction can be significant. Thus, PRC can be used at IGF of steel buildings with PMRF to get more economical construction, to reduce the seismic response and to make steel building more seismic load tolerant. Much more research is needed to consider other aspects of the problem to reach more general conclusions.
In this study, the optimum parameters of Tuned Mass Dampers (TMDs) are proposed using Gravity Search Algorithm (GSA) and Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) to reduce the responses of the structures. A MATLAB program is developed to apply the new approach to the benchmark 10 and 40-story structures. The obtained results are compared to those of other optimization methods used in the literature to verify the developed code. To show the efficiency and accuracy of the proposed methods, nine far-field and near-field worldwide earthquakes are applied to the structures. The results reveal that in the 40-story structure, GSA algorithm can reduce the Relative Displacement (RD) and Absolute Acceleration (AA) up to 43% and 21%, respectively while the PSO decreases them by 50% and 25%, respectively. In contrast, both GSA and PSO algorithms reduce the RD and AA about 29% and 21% for the 10-story structure. Furthermore, using the proposed approach the required TMD parameters reduce by 47% and 63% in the 40 and 10-story buildings in comparison with the referenced ones. Result evaluation and related comparison indicate that these methods are more effective even by using smaller TMD parameters resulting in the reduction of acting force from TMD, having smaller stiffness and damping factors while being more cost effective due to its decreased parameters. In other words, the TMD with optimum parameters can play a positive role in both tall and typical structures.
Turbulent flow analysis is conducted around the multi-stage launch vehicle including base region and detachment motion of strap-on boosters due to resultant aerodynamic forces and gravity is simulated. Aerodynamic solution procedure is coupled with rigid body dynamics for the prediction of separation behavior. An overset mesh technique is adopted to achieve maximum efficiency in simulating relative motion of bodies and various turbulence models are implemented on the flow solver to predict the aerodynamic forces accurately. At first, some preliminary studies are conducted to show the importance of base flow for the exact prediction of detachment motion and to find the most suitable turbulence model for the simulation of launch vehicle configurations. And then, developed solver is applied to the simulation of KSR-III, a three-stage sounding rocket researched in Korea. From the analyses, after-body flow field strongly affects the separation motions of strap-on boosters. Negative pitching moment at initial stage is gradually recovered and a strap-on finally results in a safe separation, while fore-body analysis shows collision phenomena between core rocket and booster. And a slight variation of motion is observed from the comparison between inviscid and turbulent analyses. Change of separation trajectory based on viscous effects is just a few percent and therefore, inviscid analysis is sufficient for the simulation of separation motion if the study is focused only on the movement of strap-ons.

This paper presents the results of a parametric study for the design of optimal Earth-Moon transfer trajectory using mixed impulsive and continuous thrust. Various types of the optimal Earth-Moon transfer trajectories were designed by adjusting the relative weight between the impulsive and the continuous thrust, and flight time. Two very different transfer trajectories can be obtained by different combination of design parameters. Furthermore, it was found that all thus designed trajectories permit the ballistic capture by the Moon gravity. Finally, the required thrust profiles are presented and analyzed in detail.
