  • This paper presents a numerical model for simulating the nonlinear response of reinforced concrete (RC) shear walls subject to cyclic loadings. The material behavior of cracked concrete is described by an orthotropic constitutive relation with tension-stiffening and compression softening effects defining equivalent uniaxial stress-strain relation in the axes of orthotropy. Especially in making analytical predictions for inelastic behaviors of RC walls under reversed cyclic loading, some influencing factors inducing the material nonlinearities have been considered. A simple hysteretic stress-strain relation of concrete, which crosses the tension-compression region, is defined. Modification of the hysteretic stress-strain relation of steel is also introduced to reflect a pinching effect depending on the shear span ratio and to represent an average stress distribution in a cracked RC element, respectively. To assess the applicability of the constitutive model for RC element, analytical results are compared with idealized shear panel and shear wall test results under monotonic and cyclic shear loadings.

  • This paper is devoted to the development of the equations which describe the elastic response of a curved laminate subjected to in-plane loads and bending moments. Similar to the classic $6{\times}6$ ABD matrix constitutive relation of a flat laminate, a new $6{\times}6$ matrix constitutive relation between force resultants, moment resultants, mid-plane strains and deformed curvatures for a curved laminate is formulated. This curved lamination theory will provide the fundamental basis for the analyses of curved laminated structures. The stress predictions by the present curved lamination theory are compared to those by the curved laminate analysis that neglected the nonlinear terms in the derivation of the constitutive relation. The results show that the curved laminate analysis that neglected the nonlinear terms cannot reflect the effect of curvature and can no longer predict the stresses accurately as the curvature becomes noticeable. In this paper, a curved lamination theory that retains the nonlinear terms and, therefore, accounts for the effect of the non-flat geometry of the structure will be developed.

  • The purpose of this research is to identify the structure among determining factors focusing on knowledge transfer and analyze and prove the causal relation on knowledge transfer in Korean companies and public corporations. The results from the analysis of data collected in this study are as follows. First, forum among organization related factors has the positive relation with uncertainty in a significant level. Second, the higher the knowledge presentation and the ease of use are among information systems related factors, the lower the ambiguity and uncertainty are. Third, among process related factors, unification has the negative relation with ambiguity and uncertainty in a significant level. Fourth, a better manpower employment contributes to a worse ambiguity and uncertainty. Fifth, ambiguity has a negative relation with knowledge transfer. In conclusion, the factors that lower the ambiguity and facilitate knowledge transfer include information systems, unification, and manpower employment. These factors, however, influence on uncertainty, which turns out to be nothing to do with knowledge transfer.

  • Making use of a relation proposed by Wielen (1977), a new empirical relation between Call emission flux and stellar age is derived by analyzing Wilson and Woolley's spectroscopic data (1970) of late type main sequence stars (K0-M5) and kinematic properties of those stars given by Gliese (1969). The proposed relation shows that the emission flux excess of the Call H-K lines, $F_k'+F_k'$ introduced by Linsky et al. (1979) decreases with stellar age $\tau$ as $\tau^{-0.51}$, consistent with the inverse square law as noted by Skumanich (1972).

  • Using black hole masses which span $10^5-10^{10}M_{\odot}$, the distribution of galaxies in the (host spheroid stellar mass)-(black hole mass) diagram is shown to be strongly bent. While the core-$S{\acute{e}}rsic$ galaxies follow a near-linear relation, having a mean $M_{bh}/M_{sph}$ mass ratio of ~0.5%, the $S{\acute{e}}rsic$ galaxies follow a near-quadratic relation. This is not due to offset pseudobulges, but is instead an expected result arising from the long-known bend in the $M_{sph}{-{\sigma}}$ relation and a log-linear $M_{bh}{-{\sigma}}$ relation.

  • This paper presents the details of size independent fracture energy and bi-linear tension softening relation for nano modified high strength concrete. Nano silica in powder form has been used as partial replacement of cement by 2 wt%. Two popular methods, namely, simplified boundary effect method of Karihaloo et al. (2003) and RILEM (1985) fracture energy with P-${\delta}$ tail correction have been employed for estimation of size independent fracture energy for nano modified high strength concrete (compressive strength ranges from 55 MPa to 72 MPa). It is found that both the methods gave nearly same values, which is an additional evidence that either of them can be employed for determination of size independent fracture energy. Bi-linear tension softening relation corresponding to their size independent fracture energy has been constructed in an inverse manner based on the concept of non-linear hinge from the load-crack mouth opening plots of notched three-point bend beams.

  • In a today, our concerns have been changed from a single material to relation, communication and time. The human life made up of science, technology, philosophy and art of the modern society can decide whoerness by connecting or replacing a comprehensive and many kinds. This one is exhibited in interior actively. The space of the pluralistic world is sustained by not simple and fixed relation but complex and flexible relation. And it is shown as an undecided phenomenon by effecting and modifying each other. In here, the boundary has a phase of undecided relation but at the same time it can make possibility to be abundant to infinity. The purpose of our study with considering the uncertainty of the boundary is to solve the discord of between division and unify of modern architecture space and suggest new way to be mediation and to occupy independent area.

  • In this Paper, we analyzed the relative importance of multiple sources and their effects on innovative activities. Through factor analysis, we found 5 sources of innovative activities; university/laboratory source, within firm source, general information source, vertical/competitive relation source, and horizontal relation source. Through regression analysis, we found that (1) 'within firm source' is the most important source on innovative activities, (2) from inputs' point of view, the more 'vertical/competitive relation source' is, the less innovative activities we, (3) from outputs' point of view, innovations are more activated when 'university/laboratory source' is abundant. but, they are less activated when 'general information source' and 'vertical/competitive relation source' is abundant, and (4) according to firm size and innovation stages(newproduct innovation, upgraded product innovation, and process innovation), the effect of sources on innovative activities is different.

  • This paper presents a feasibility study whether Shida's constitutive equation being widely used for plain carbon steel in steel manufacturing industry can be extended to alloy steels with a due carbon equivalent model. T,he constitutive relation of the alloy steels (SAE9254, AISI52100 and AISI4140) is measured using hot deformation simulator (GLEEBLE 3500C) at high temperatures ($800^{\circ}C{\~}1000^{\circ}C$) within strain rates of $0.05{\~}40\;s^{-1}$. It has been found the predicted flow stress behavior (constitutive relation) of AISI52100 steel is in agreement with the measured one. On the other hand, the measured flow stress behavior of SAE9254 and AISI4140 steel partly concords with the predicted one when material experiences relatively high strain rate ($10{\~}40\;s^{-1}$) deformation at low temperature ($800^{\circ}C$). It can be deduced that, for AISI52100 steel, Shida's equation with the carbon equivalent model can be applicable directly to the roughing and intermediate finishing stand in hot rolling process for calculating the roll force and torque.
