Bassets와 N.C.
In this paper, the carbon fiber reinforced plastic (CFRP) grids embedded in polymer cement mortar (PCM) shotcrete (CFRP-PCM method) was conducted to repair the degraded tunnel linings with a cavity. Subsequently, the reinforcing effect of the CFRP-PCM method under different degrees of lining deterioration was quantitatively evaluated. Finally, the limit state design method of the M-N interaction curve was conducted to determine whether the structure reinforced by the CFRP-PCM method is in a safe state. The main results indicated that when the cavity is at the shoulder, the lining damage rate is more serious. In addition, the remarkably reinforcing effect on the degraded tunnel linings could be achieved by applying a higher grade of CFRP grids, whereas the optimization effect is no longer obvious when the grade of CFRP grids is too high (CR8); Furthermore, it is found that the M-N numerical values of the ten reinforcing designs of the CFRP-PCM method are distributed outside the corresponding M-N theoretical interaction curves, and these designs should be avoided in the corresponding reinforcing engineering.
Recently the interest in the reinforcing steel corrosion due to the use of sea-sand and deicing salt, marine environment, and carbonation in RC structures is increasing, therefore the studies on the corrosion control of reinforcing steel in concrete are vigorously proceeding. In this study, from the viewpoint of electrochemical process of steel corrosion in concrete we applied the impressed current system among the cathodic protections to reinforcing steel in concrete and ascertained the protection effect by half-cell potential, corrosion rate, and depolarization.
Micropiled raft has been used to support the existing and new structures or to provide the seismic reinforcement of foundation systems. Recently, research on micropile or micropiled raft has been actively conducted as the usage of micropile has increased, and the reinforcement effect of pile for the raft, the pile installation methods, and methods for calculating the bearing capacity of micropiled raft have been proposed. In addition, existing research results show that the behavior of this foundation system is different depending on the pile conditions and can be greatly influenced by the characteristics of the upper or lower ground depending on the conditions of pile. In other words, considering that the micropile is a friction pile, it can be predicted that the reinforcing effect of micropile for the raft and the bearing capacity of micropiled raft may depend on the cohesion of upper soil layer depending on the pile conditions. However, existing studies have limitations in that they were conducted without taking this into account. However, existing studies have limitations as they have been conducted without considering these characteristics. Accordingly, this study investigated the reinforcing effect of micropile and the bearing characteristics of micropiled raft by varying the cohesion of upper soil layer and the stiffness of pile which affect the behavior of micropiled raft. In this results, the reinforcing effect of micropile on the raft also increased as the cohesion of soil layer increased, but the reinforcing effect of pile was more effective in ground conditions with decreased the cohesion. In addition, the relationship between the axial stiffness of micropile and the bearing capacity of micropiled raft was found to be a logarithmic linear relationship. It was found that the reinforcing effect of micropile can increase the bearing capacity of raft by 1.33~ 3.72 times depending on the cohesion of soil layer and the rigidity of pile.
In this study, the reinforcing effect of micropile for weathered rock is analysed by laboratory model tests. Especially, the effect of the number, the surface roughness, and length of micropile are focused. The results of tests are as follows: $\circled1$ The deformation modulus of reinforced ground is less than equivalent deformation modulus, and $\circled2$ Increasing effect of unconfined compressive strength is not large as times as increasing the number of micropile.
An accurate and efficient analytical model describing the bond effect between reinforcing steel and concrete without taking the double nodes is presented. To increase the efficiency of the solution and reduce the number of degrees of freedom, the reinforcing bar elements are considered to be embedded in the connote elements. Relative douses of freedom accounting for the relative slip between reinforcing steel and concrete are condensed out during the stiffness formation phase. However, these degrees of freedom Can be taken into account explicitly by solving the constructed global equilibrium equation for each reinforcing steel. The usefulness of proposed model is established through the comparison with the experimental data subjected on push and push-pull loadings.
In the case of construction under the marine environment the durability of concrete structures is everely deteriorated by the penetration of salts which results in the corrosion of reinforcing steel. To verify the effect of corrosion protection of reinforcing steel by isolating the penetration of chlorideion this study investigated the bond strength between painting material and concrete, the degree of the penetration-diffusion of chloride ion and the accelerated corrosion test using different potential. Results show that the painted concrete has little the penetration-diffusion of cholride and the reinforcing steel in painted concrete is little corroding.
Soils are natural granular materials whose mechanical properties differ according to the size and composition of the particles, so soils exhibit an obvious scale effect. Traditional soil mechanics is based on continuum mechanics, which can not reflect the impact of particle size on soil mechanics. On that basis, a matrix-reinforcing-particle cell model is established in which the reinforcing particles are larger-diameter sand particles and the matrix comprises smaller-diameter bentonite particles. Since these two types of particles deform differently under shear stress, a new shear-strength theory under direct shear that considers the stress concentration and bypass phenomena of the matrix is established. In order to verify the rationality of this theory, a series of direct shear tests with different reinforcing particle diameter and volume fraction ratio are carried out. Theoretical analysis and experimental results showed that the interaction among particles of differing size and composition is the basic reason for the size effect of soils. Furthermore, the stress concentration and bypass phenomena of the matrix enhance the shear strength of a soil, and the volume ratio of reinforcing particles has an obvious impact on the shear strength. In addition, the newly proposed shear-strength theory agrees well with experimental values.
An experimental investigation on the reinforcing bar corrosion and relationshid of reinforcing bar and concrete bond strength has been conducted to establish the allowable limit of rust in the construction field. The reinforcing bars used in this study were rusted before embedding in concrete. The first component of this experiment is to make rust of reinforcing bar rust artificially based on Faraday's theory at certain rates such as 2, 4, 6, 8 and 10% of reinforcing bar weight. For estimation of the amount of rust by weight, Clarke's solution and Shot blasting were adopted and compared. Parameters include 240 and 450kg/㎠ of compressive strengths and diameter of reinforcing bar (16, 19 and 25mm) corresponding development length for pull-ort test. And, pull-out tests were carried. out according to KSF 2441 and ASTMC 234 to investigate the effect of the corrosion rate on reinforcing bar-concrete bond behavior. It is found from the test results that the test techniques for corrosion of bar used in this study is relatively effective and correct test method. Results shows that up to 2% of rust increases the bond strength regardless of concrete strength and diameter of reinforcing bar like the existing data. It might be because of the roughness from rust. As expected, the bond strength increases as compressive strength of concrete increases and the diameter of bar decreases.
