Many uncertainties affecting to the structural behavior of prestressed concrete (PSC) bridges reinforced with the un bonded external tendons are analyzed on the basis of the analytical method introduced in the companion paper. Many design parameters, which must be considered in design procedure, such as friction slip at the deviators, number of deviators, time-dependent deformations of concrete, relaxation of tendon and influence of loading history in PSC bridges are reviewed, and a lot of valuable results are obtained through this parametric study. In advance, the structural responses according to the external tendon profiles are analyzed to grasp if an optimum tendon profile depends on the applied loading type, and the obtained results show that the most stable structural response is revealed when the locations of deviators are coincident with the loading points.
This study is aimed at identifying structural element stiffness influence on vertical earthquake response of mid-rise R/C frame buildings. To this aim, a mid-rise RC building structure is designed as per the new Turkish Seismic Code for Buildings-2018, and 3D FE model of the building is established. Based on the established FE model, a total number of six buildings are considered depending on certain percentage increase in beam, slab, and column. The time-history response analyses (THA) are performed separately for only horizontal (H) and horizontal +vertical (H+V) earthquake motions to make a comparison between the load cases. The analysis results are presented comparatively in terms of the monitoring parameters of the base overturning moment (Mo), the top-story lateral displacement (dL) and the top-story vertical displacement (dV). The obtained results reveal that the base overturning moment and the top-story vertical displacement are affected by vertical earthquake motion regardless of the increase in the dimension of beam, slab, and column. However, vertical earthquake motion is not effective on the top-story lateral displacement due to no change between H and H+V load. The dimensional increase in either slab or beam leads to a considerable increase in the base overturning moment and the top-story vertical displacement while causing decrease in the top-story lateral displacement. In addition, the dimensional increase in column has a positive effect on the decrease in the monitoring parameters of the base overturning moment (Mo), the top-story lateral displacement (dL) and the top-story vertical displacement (dV).
A large number of bridges were built several decades ago, and most of which have gradually suffered serious deteriorations or damage due to the increasing traffic loads, environmental effects, and inadequate maintenance. However, very few studies were conducted to investigate the vibration behaviors of a damaged bridge under moving vehicles. In this paper, the vibration behaviors of such vehicle-bridge system are investigated in details, in which the effects of the concrete cracks and bridge surface roughness are particularly considered. Specifically, two vehicle models are introduced, i.e., a simplified four degree-of-freedoms (DOFs) vehicle model and a more complex seven DOFs vehicle model, respectively. The bridges are modeled in two types, including a single-span uniform beam and a full scale reinforced concrete high-pier bridge, respectively. The crack zone in the reinforced concrete bridge is considered by a damage function. The bridge and vehicle coupled equations are established by combining the equations of motion of both the bridge and vehicles using the displacement relationship and interaction force relationship at the contact points between the tires and bridge. The numerical simulations and verifications show that the proposed modeling method can rationally simulate the vibration behaviors of the damaged bridge under moving vehicles; the effect of cracks on the impact factors is very small and can be neglected for the bridge with none roughness, however, the effect of cracks on the impact factors is very significant and cannot be neglected for the bridge with roughness.
The real behavior of the RC structures constructed based on the assumed specifications of the used materials is matched with the designed ones when the assumed and the applied specifications in construction are the same. Despite in the construction phase of the reinforced concrete (RC) structures always it is tried to implement the same specifications of materials as given in the executive drawings, but considering the unpredicted/uncontrolled parameters that affect the specification of materials, always there is a deviation between the constructed and the designed materials' specifications. The objective of this paper is to submit a guideline for the evaluation of the strength and damage to the existing RC structures encountered deviation in materials' strengths. To achieve this goal, the lateral strength (plastic behaviors) and damage to twenty-five RC moment-resisting frames (MRFs) are studied by applying the inelastic analysis. In this study, a couple of concrete and reinforcement strengths' deviations are investigated. The obtained results indicate that in general, there is a semi-linear relationship between the deviation in the strength of reinforcement and the changes in the lateral strength values of the MRFs. The relative effect of the deviation in the strength of reinforcements is more than the relative effect of the deviation in the concrete strength on the damage rate. The obtained results could be a guideline for the engineers in the survey of the existing buildings encountered deviation in materials' strengths during their construction phase.
An experimental and analytical invest.igation was conducted regarding the behavior of reinforced concrete skew bridge decb with Ontario-type reinforcement. A full-scale model repmsenting the essential behavior of a full skew bridge was built and tested. The test specimen had details similar to those required by the Ontario Highway Bridge Design Code, modified as recommended by the Texas State Highway Dopartment. The skuw bridge deck performed sati:,factorily under the current AASHTO design load le"els as well as the overload conditions(about :3 times the current AASHTO design wheel load). The skew edges failed by shear ; the center by punching shear. The calculated flexural capacity considering arching action always far exceeded the actual failure load (shear or punching shear) at each test location. To check the experimental results a detailed finite element model of the specimen was developed using a general-purpose structural analysis pmgram. Analytical predictions and exper'imental results agreed c1osuly.
The checking stresses in the Chinese codes for reinforced concrete (RC) or prestressed concrete (PC) bridges are aimed for the thin-web beam, which cannot reflect the actual behavior of the modern structures. The incompleteness of the checking stresses could give rise to the deficiency in the design and calculation, and unable to reveal the reason of some common cracks in the structure. In this paper, the complete stress checklist for RC or PC girder bridges are listed, as well as the corresponding crack shapes. The expression of the complete checking stresses is proposed in details. Spatial Grid Model can reflect all the concerned stresses in the structure. Through the comparison of the calculation results from the spatial grid model and the solid model, it is seen that the spatial grid model can reflect load effects such as shear lag effect, thin-wall effect and local effect. The stresses obtained from the spatial grid model could help engineers to have a good understanding of the structural behavior. Meanwhile, the stress checklist provides the information for analyzing and solving the deficiency in the structure.

This study investigates the effect of the outrigger wall reinforced with post-tension on reducing differential column shortening. Since the outrigger wall is a concrete structure, the effect of its long-term behavior should be considered. The long-term behavior of the outrigger wall increases differential column shortening and decreases the shear force acting on the outrigger. When the stiffness of the outrigger becomes small, the effect of its long-term behavior increases. Furthermore, a method of reinforcing with post-tension to reduce differential column shortening is proposed. Following the analysis, it was confirmed that the post-tension method shows a significant reduction in the differential column shortening. This study shows that the effect of the outrigger wall reinforced with post-tension on reducing differential column shortening increases with the prestressing force of tendon.

This study was carried out to investigate quantitatively the relationship between the degree of rebar corrosion and the strength of reinforced concrete beams. After producing equations for the relationship between both the tensile properties of rebars and bond properties and the corrosion percentage of rebars, finite element analysis and bending tests were conducted for RC beams damaged by corrosion of tension main rebar. As a result, it was made that the strength of RC beams damaged by corrosion could be practically simulated by FEM analysis using experimentally determined material properties representing the bond and the mechanical characteristics of corroded rebars.
A nonlinear static procedure considering work-energy principle and global failure mechanism to estimate base shears of reinforced concrete (RC) frame-type structures is presented. The relative energy equation comprising of elastic vibrational energy, plastic strain energy and seismic input energy is obtained. The input energy is modified with a factor depending on damping ratio and ductility, and the energy that contributes to damage is obtained. The plastic energy is decreased with a factor to consider the reduced hysteretic behavior of RC members. Given the pre-selected failure mechanism, the modified energy balance equality is written using various approximations for modification factors of input energy and plastic energy in scientific literature. External work done by the design lateral forces distributed to story levels in accordance with Turkish Seismic Design Code is calculated considering the target plastic drift. Equating the plastic energy obtained from energy balance to external work done by the equivalent inertia forces considering, a total of 16 energy-based base shears for each frame are derived considering different combinations of modification factors. Ductility related parameters of modification factors are determined from pushover analysis. Relative input energy of multi degree of freedom (MDOF) system is approximated by using the modal-energy-decomposition approach. Energy-based design base shears are compared with those obtained from nonlinear time history (NLTH) analysis using recorded accelerograms. It is found that some of the energy-based base shears are in reasonable agreement with the mean base shear obtained from NLTH analysis.
Nonlinear dynamic analysis of a reinforced concrete (RC) frame under earthquake loading is performed in this paper on the basis of a hysteretic moment-curvature relation. Unlike previous analytical moment-curvature relations which take into account the flexural deformation only with the perfect-bond assumption, by introducing an equivalent flexural stiffness, the proposed relation considers the rigid-body-motion due to anchorage slip at the fixed end, which accounts for more than 50% of the total deformation. The advantage of the proposed relation, compared with both the layered section approach and the multi-component model, may be the ease of its application to a complex structure composed of many elements and on the reduction in calculation time and memory space. Describing the structural response more exactly becomes possible through the use of curved unloading and reloading branches inferred from the stress-strain relation of steel and consideration of the pinching effect caused by axial force. Finally, the applicability of the proposed model to the nonlinear dynamic analysis of RC structures is established through correlation studies between analytical and experimental results.
