Diamond shaping is one of the machining strategies to make the optical micro-groove molds, and it is especially useful when rhe component is an assembly of the linear micro-groove array. A mirror-like surface and arbitrary crose-sectional curve can be easily made by diamond. Howerver, the cutting speed of shaping is relatively lower than that of the other cutting methods, and there exist an unstable cutting conditions that generate the chatter. This study is focused on the modeling of the simplified self-induced chatter of the diamond shapping. Form the chatter model and experiments, it is found that the unstable cutting conditions exist wwhen the depth of cut is low and cutting speed is high.

This paper describes a sonic polygonal multiple reflection range sensor (SPMRS), which uses multiple reflection properties usually ignored in ultrasonic sensors as disturbances or noises. Targets such as a plane, corner, edge, or cylinder in indoor environments can easily be detected by the multiple reflection patterns obtained with a SPMRS system. Target classification and feature data extraction, such as distance and azimuth to the target, are computed simultaneously by considering the geometrical relationships between the detected targets, and finally the environment model is generated by refining the detected targets. In addition, the narrow field of view of a sonar range sensor is increased and the scanning time is reduced by active motion of the SPMRS stepping servomechanism.

The purpose of this study was to investigate how student felt the strengths and shortness of presentation methods for formation of interior spaces. For this study, the process of the interior architecture design class was divided into three stages: the programming. the design development, and the design completion. In the design development stage, students used presentation methods: hand sketch, scale model, computer modeling, and virtual realty. The strengths of hand sketch was that quick expression. Models provided three-dimensional feelings. Computer modelling provide realistic color and texture. Virtual reality provided three-dimensional immersion and real scale. It is effective that students collect brain storm images using quick hand sketch in the beginning of design development stage. After that, they compose interior spaces in study models with small scale. Watching the models, they design details of spaces by using hand sketch and computer modelling. Using virtual reality, they can check the scale and circulation. Finally, they complete computer modelling by texture mapping and check the final design in virtual reality.

Diamond shaping is one of the machining strategies to make the optical micro-groove molds, and it is especially useful when the component is an assembly of the linear micro-groove array. A mirrorlike surface and an arbitrary crose-sectional curve can be easily made by the diamond tool. However, the cutting speed of shaping is relatively lower than that of the other cutting methods, and there exist an unstable cutting conditions that generate the chatter. This study is focused on the modeling of the simplified self-induced chatter of the diamond shaping, and the machinabilities of three materials are compared by cutting experiments. From the chatter model and experiments, it is found that the unstable cutting conditions exist when the depth of cut is low and cutting speed is high. It is also found that the brass is relatively good material in micro shaping than copper or aluminium from the cutting experiments.

A time-domain numerical model is developed to examine the performance of a wave energy focusing structure in combined waves and a current. With the current assumed to be slow and the structure fully submerged, the wave-current interaction problem is reduced to a wave scattering problem in a uniform current. The diffraction of incident waves around a narrow berm is considered. The shape of the berm is defined by a parabola, imitating that of an optical reflector. The energy focus is achieved by reflecting the incident waves through a predetermined focal point. Through the numerical simulations, the numerical model is shown to be effective in modeling the wave-current interaction problem, and the current speed and direction are shown to affect significantly the location, amplitude and sharpness of the focus.
TSP (Tunnel Seismic Profiling) survey is a technique for imaging and characterizing geological structures ahead of a tunnel face. The seismic modeling algorithm and the synthetic data could be helpful for TSP surveys. However, there is few algorithm to describe the propagation of the elastic waves around the tunnel. In this study, existing 2-dimensional seismic modeling algorithm using finite element method was modified to make a suitable algorithm for TSP modeling. Using this algorithm, TSP modeling was practiced in some models. And the synthetic data was analyzed to examine the propagation characteristics of the elastic waves. First of all, the modeling for the homogeneous tunnel model was practiced to examine the propagation characteristics of the direct waves in the vicinity of the tunnel. And the algorithm was applied to some models having reflector which is perpendicular or parallel to the excavation direction. From these, the propagation characteristics of the reflected waves were examined. Furthermore, two source-receiver arrays were used in respective models to investigate the properties of the two arrays. These modeling algorithm and synthetic data could be helpful in interpreting TSP survey data, developing inversion algorithm and designing new source-receiver arrays.
The gas hydrate exploration using seismic reflection data, the detection of BSR(Bottom Simulating Reflector) on the seismic section is the most important work flow because the BSR have been interpreted as being formed at the base of a gas hydrate zone. Usually, BSR has some dominant qualitative characteristics on seismic section i.e. Wavelet phase reversal compare to sea bottom signal, Parallel layer with sea bottom, Strong amplitude, Masking phenomenon above the BSR, Cross bedding with other geological layer. Even though a BSR can be selected on seismic section with these guidance, it is not enough to conform as being true BSR. Some other available methods for verifying the BSR with reliable analysis quantitatively i.e. Interval velocity analysis, AVO(Amplitude Variation with Offset)analysis etc. Usually, AVO analysis can be divided by three main parts. The first part is AVO analysis, the second is AVO modeling and the last is AVO inversion. AVO analysis is unique method for detecting the free gas zone on seismic section directly. Therefore it can be a kind of useful analysis method for discriminating true BSR, which might arise from an Possion ratio contrast between high velocity layer, partially hydrated sediment and low velocity layer, water saturated gas sediment. During the AVO interpretation, as the AVO response can be changed depend upon the water saturation ratio, it is confused to discriminate the AVO response of gas layer from dry layer. In that case, the AVO modeling is necessary to generate synthetic seismogram comparing with real data. It can be available to make conclusions from correspondence or lack of correspondence between the two seismograms. AVO inversion process is the method for driving a geological model by iterative operation that the result ing synthetic seismogram matches to real data seismogram wi thin some tolerance level. AVO inversion is a topic of current research and for now there is no general consensus on how the process should be done or even whether is valid for standard seismic data. Unfortunately, there are no well log data acquired from gas hydrate exploration area in Korea. Instead of that data, well log data and seismic data acquired from gas sand area located nearby the gas hydrate exploration area is used to AVO analysis, As the results of AVO modeling, type III AVO anomaly confirmed on the gas sand layer. The Castagna's equation constant value for estimating the S-wave velocity are evaluated as A=0.86190, B=-3845.14431 respectively and water saturation ratio is $50\%$. To calculate the reflection coefficient of synthetic seismogram, the Zoeppritz equation is used. For AVO inversion process, the dataset provided by Hampson-Rushell CO. is used.

Pointing stability of high precision observation satellites must satisfy the stringent requirements to perform at a designed level. As even a small vibrational disturbance can result in severe degradation of the optical performance, the effects of inorbit vibrational environment on the performance of optical payload must be predicted and analyzed in the design phase in order to ensure that the requirements imposed on the payload are fully met. In this paper, an integrated framework for the evaluation of the performance of optical payloads is developed. The developed simulation tool comprises of the reaction wheel induced disturbance model, state space model of a structure in modal form and Cassegrain reflector model. The performance degradation of the optical system due to jitter is expressed by using modulation transfer function (MTF) and image simulation. Moreover, vibration isolator model is also added to show the effectiveness of using a vibration isolator for the elimination of the effects of jitter in the acquisition of an image.

We demonstrated a wide-fan-angle flat-top irradiance pattern with a very narrow linewidth by using an aspheric lens and a long-pitch reflective diffraction grating. First, we numerically designed a diffraction-based linear beam homogenizer. The structure of the Al diffraction grating with an isosceles triangular shape was optimized with 0.1-mm pitch, 35.5° slope angle, and 0.02-mm radius of the rounding top. According to the numerical results, the linear uniformity of the irradiance was more sensitive to the working distance than to the shape of the Al grating. The designed Al grating reflector was fabricated by using a conventional mold injection and an Al coating process. A uniform linear irradiance of 405-nm laser diode with a 100-mm flat-top length and 0.176-mm linewidth was experimentally demonstrated at 140-mm working distance. We believe that our proposed linear beam homogenizer can be used in various potential applications at a precise inspection system such as three-dimensional morphology scanner with line lasers.
